Mariah Carey Performs ‘That Chick’ Live

Published: Wednesday 26th Mar 2008 by Sam

As reported, Mariah Carey performed at the season 3 premiere of MTV’s ‘The Hills’ earlier this week. Though not broadcast on the telecast, Mariah performed a previously unheard song from her forthcoming ‘E=MC²’ album called ‘That Chick’. I’ll give it to her, she did her thing on the breezy mid-tempo cut. Saying that, it hardly seemed that taxing (vocally) to perform.

What do you think of the performance?

Stop hating, you couldn’t sing that. F*** taxing, doesn’t she have to do high notes for an eternity?

    Anyways, hot song!

What happened to the Chris Brown interview.

It was all a LIE TO GET PEOPLE to come to your site huh?

Because he’s already back in the STates.

Sam you really need to stop with the negativity in your posts – it’s really not a good look.
You should perhaps try to post in a more impartial way.
No one wants to come here and read news riddled with your negative opinions…
I like your site but you’re not Perez Hilton. Cut it out!!

  7. Anonymous March 26, 2008

Loving this feels like an old school disco feel.Feels like old school MC.

  8. Anonymous March 26, 2008

Let’s stop that hate toward MC please! She sounds hot on this song! And frankly, people get it twisted. She doesn’t have to scream every word at the top of her lungs and hit crazy high notes to be a hot singer!

This song is definitely going to be a hit! Fun to sing along with already! I already want to drop the top and play it at top volume!

At least she is singing live. You seem to diss everything she does. If you hate her so much, stop posting stuff about her on your site. MC is whats up!!

  12. Anonymous March 26, 2008

Yahhh, and they didn’t air this because??? Because this so much betta than Flop My Body and Migrain

BORING? Watching this performance almost put me in a coma. Wack vocals, Wack song, Wack Mariah.

  14. Anonymous March 26, 2008

    That was pure mess.

  15. Anonymous March 26, 2008

Anyone notice the sample of Michael Jackson’s song Off the Wall…the song is cute…like it better than the other two songs.

  16. T March 26, 2008

at least her vocals are better but that was boring to me, the song was boring to me omg i’m not feeling anything mariah is doing now, AT ALL!! she’s not singing live well, the songs are just to be hot NOW not memorable s***!

I’m a completely obsessed and deranged Mariah lamb, yet I don’t think Sam was hating just because Sam didn’t think the song was “that taxing.” It wasn’t. Why else should Sam have a site if not to have an opinion? Especially when commenters have so many?

I’ve gotta agree with T here, Don’t get me wrong all the stuff ive heard from E=MC2 sounds good and catchy, but its very much…

Hot for a couple of months and then forgotten about really quickly.

On the flip-side of that tho, we havent heard any of her new Ballads (and IMO, mariah really shines on Ballads rather than funky tracks).

All we’ve heard so far are funky joints, but when she’s ready to drop one of her infamous balads – thats when people will remember why Mariah is still regarded as one of the best.

She’s already stated that her next single will b a ballad and that’s when she’ll be delivering those timeless classics to us again.

Silly lambies, her new material is garbage and you know it. How embarassing.

  20. Anonymous March 27, 2008

I’ve loved mc’s stuff from day 1 but i’m really starting to turn on her.

she seems intent on destroyin any thread of credability that mimi scraped back. the new material sounds old and tired. the beats r s***. the lyrics are beyond mundane and she really sounds like she’d rather be somewhere else.

this project sounds and looks like too many people pushing and pulling her in a direction that will appeal to the younger, shallower, throw away pop teenage market, why do this when she can surely sell more resting on the hardcore fans alone.

    more MIMI less RIRI!!!!!!!

I HAVE BEEN A MARIAH FAN SINCE DAY 1. I WAS NINE, NOW 27 AND SHE STILL TAKES MY HEART. I come to this site to get my updates ON OTHER ARTIST and i noticed that this sam cat really hates on mariah a lot. well sam, this song is cute, and she sound good. if you ever notice mariah gets nervous at times. only when she is comfortable does her notes come out clear and good. that song was performed at the end of the night, she’d loosin’ up a lot you can tell. it sounds nuts after all she is a legend, but it shows you that she is human and cant be perfect all time. so stop saying she is a studio singer. no no.
with a voice like hers that NOONE can copy, it’s not possible for her to always sing her songs the way we want her to. You must be a J.Lo,Madonna, and or Whitney fan. Not coming at you but I noticed that fans of those artist normally hate on Mariah.
MARIAH I LOVE YA AND APPRECIATE YA! HAPPY ANIV.!

    In response to 7:32 AM’s comments…

I think its a bit harsh to say her new material is sh!t.

    A) You’ve only heard 2 of the songs via live perfomance which isnt always an accurate representation of a song (Especially when you havent heard a studio Version yet). Vocals are usually weaker, instruments arent as clear, usually missing subtle beats and sounds, sound isnt as crisp etc etc.

    B) Mariah has a significantly unique sound, which is evident on all 3 of her new songs. If you don’t like these, i find it hard to believe u would have taken well to TEOMM initially.

    c) You cant judge a Mariah album by her funky tracks alone, i mean if the 1st 3 songs u heard off TEOMM were its like that, Say Something and shake it off… No doubts u would have assumed TEOMM would have been Waste.

    D) You should know by now, Mariah mixes her albums up, the uptempo tracks arent too strong on their own but as part of the complete album, they work great.

    E) I dont know where you got a comparison to Rihanna from aswell, they sound nothing like each other at all. Vocals, beats, style… there’s nothing “riri” about Mariah’s new stuff whatsoever. You may aswell be comparing Mariah to 50 Cent.

    F) As stated before, wait for a couple of ballads to drop b4 u condemn her new stuff and get a wider scope of what E=MC2’s is going to deliver.

All in all, i dont understand where all this negativity is coming from, IMO she hasnt strayed far away from TEOMM at all… And Everyone loved that album.

I find this trend quite common though with an artist bringing out new material. Initially, people hate on the simple basis that its not a familliar to them.

Maybe if people had the album, listened to it a few times and then saw a live perfomance, the only comments we’d be seeing is “Aaaah this is my jam, love mariah” etc etc.

The songs weve heard so far are typical mimi style, just gotta give it a little time to get used to them.

When i first heard touch my body, i wernt feeling it at all, but after 10 or so spins, its got me hooked on that classic mariah charm. No doubt the same will be said for Migrate & That Chick when the Studio versions drop.

  23. Anonymous March 27, 2008

Wow, Mariah… 🙂 All I can say is that I really CAN’T WAIT for this new album!!! ‘Touch My Body’, ‘Migrate’, ‘That Chick’… It’s all so hot and so refreshing… 🙂

Nah I think wot sam is tryna say is that the song is…Just There…by Just There I mean it doesnt add anything to Mariah’s amazing catalogue…all the songs that have come out would not have made to to ‘Emancipation…’ cos that would have brought the quality of that gr8 album down. Crankin out songs like this is a step back 4 Mariah…make that bout 10 steps back cos any random R&B chick cud have come up with these songs. U ppl only make noise bout it cos it happens to be Mariah. The woman undoubtedly is a legend bt come on…this is pure average fast food music.

second dont hate on Sam cos he has an opinion… thats wot the blog is 4. he probli doesnt read the wack ass comments u leave anyway so u mite as well save it.

  25. Anonymous March 27, 2008

I agree with the one above. being average is worse than being s***.

  26. Anonymous March 27, 2008

1st. These two songs – ‘Migrate’ and ‘I’m That Chick’ are NOT out as singles. They are JUST something of a ‘WARM UP’. So you don’t know what the second single will be… And you can’t really tell if it won’t be ‘The Emancipation’-part 2…

2nd. I personally don’t hate on Sam cuz everybody can have their own opinion and it’s his site too. Well, I do think that he’s slightly overreacting about Mariah though… She is what she is, and she does what she does. We should just take her as she is… 🙂
