Solange – ‘I Decided’ Video

Published: Thursday 5th Jun 2008 by Sam
The video for Solange’s new single I Decided’ just a few hours ago on BET’s Access Granted. Check out the Melina directed vid below:

Though not the best video, I’m really feeling this one for its uniqueness; the vid most definitely is unlike any other clip out at the moment and I’m loving the ‘popular culture through time’ concept. Kudos to Solange for stepping out of the industry comfort-zone/template and going left-field, the results are obviously working in her favour. Word has it, a separate video will be serviced to the European market for the Freemasons mix – ‘I Decided (Part 2)’ – which is set to be released as the official first single over here. Solange’s album ‘Sol-Angel & The Hadley Street Dreams’ hits stores on August 26th.

What do you think of the video?

I like how it addresses different social issues over time, such as the black civil rights movement, vietnam, appartheid & the berlin wall (briefly) along with the different phases of soul/r&b music…

Don’t think it really matches the content of the song, but it’s cool! =)

    i love it
notice how it jumps from 60’s (American bandstand), 70’s (Soul Train), and 80’s (Vanity 6)..
    This vid is sooo dope..
Even tho i feel she might be cursed because of who she is, and that she will never get the credibilty she deserves for being so unique…im def feeling her new sound

I suppose it’s impossible for her to seperate herself from Beyonce completely since they are sisters and they look so much alike (although Beyonce is prettier). I loved the videos concept but every move that Solange made, every look that she had and every note that she hit felt familiar, like something I’ve seen and heard before;FROM BEYONCE. The last thing this world needs is another Beyonce.

Have you even heard this song before! To say that it is similar to Beyonce is such a joke. It is absolutely nothing like what Beyonce has done! The only similiraty is that they look similar, but what can you expect they ARE sisters!!!

Great vid IMO, I hope she is able to help bring something fresh to the biz right now!

(Love the shoes in the 70’s era – LOL)

She looks great, and to be honest I prefer her over her sis – not hating, just think she is a better songwriter!

I actually got goose-bumps watching that.. reminds me of something Erykah Badu would do.

Great innovative idea.. this is what we need video in the music industry, new ideas and risks.

I’m buying her shizzle to support fo’sure..

It’ll be interesting to see the vid with the Freemason’s version.

I hear Solange broke her toe this week.. get well soon Solange!

It’s so sad… I love everyone at this camp. Beyonce, Solange, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams. They’ve all had successful careers (one MUCH MORE than the others) and I’m so happy for all of them. One thing I’m sad about though is that Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and anyone else at this label ceases to shine…
Beyonce had the B’Day album ride out for about 1 year to 1 1/2 years. She won grammys and had several singles chart and SOLD MILLIONS OF CDS! I was so happy because I love to see Beyonce doing well because she’s the QUEEN OF R&B.
But… as for KELLY… she had one single (“Like This”) hit the top ten on the R&B/Hip-Hop chart and then everything went down hill from there… She had four videos (two that the US didnt even see!) and her CD FLOPPED BIG TIME! She only sold 86,000 copies in the first week and then fell off the Top 100 album chart. Her other single(s) ALL FAILED TO CHART! She’s only had success in the UK and I guess she’s doing her thing there… Kelly says that she’s doing her 3rd album and she says it’ll drop EARLY 2009… We’ll see about that b/c IT TOOK MS. KELLY FIVE WHOLE YEARS TO DROP AFTER SHE DID THE FIRST ONE SO I’M BETTING THAT MAYBE 2012-2013 IS WHEN THE CD WILL DROP…
Michelle Williams – I know she wanted her gospel albums to be quiet releases but now she’s created a whole new SEXIER image and she made a great video for “WBTD” and she still hasn’t seen the light of day.. There’s LITTLE TO NO PROMO FOR HER WHATSOEVER. She’s only made appearances on the red carpets of various events!!! She hasn’t even performed it yet!!!She ain’t even been on 106 and Park or TRL to debut her video that dropped two or three weeks ago!!!! Why is that???!!!
Solange – everyone knows tha first album flopped but now she’s back with her HOT first single “I Decided” and the video just dropped and she’s on tour already. Mathew Knowles has already said that she has a second single (“Sandcastle Disco”) and that the video will be shot in a month… Everything seems so concrete and laid out for her but what about the others??? I’m happy for the daughters of Mr. Knowles but someone has to see what I see as well…

I don’t know if Kelly or Michelle will EVER HAVE hugely successful careers because of how their albums have been handled. At the end of the day, Beyonce and Solange are his daughters and I feel like he pays more attention to them and kinda brushes Michelle, Kelly and all the other no-name acts on the label to the side.

    What do you think?????????
