New Song: Solange – ‘F*ck The Industry’

Published: Tuesday 5th Aug 2008 by Sam
Yes, I know I’m a lil late with this one lol…

Solange recently released the controversially titled ‘F*ck The Industry’ on her official blog ‘The Hadley Street Journal’. Speaking on the track, the youngest of the Knowles clan said:

In this journey I have been so blessed to come across many faces and spaces that have shown so much love. I hear so many folk who love that the record is a departure from most of the traditional things out right now. I get people who love my steez and encourage me to be me and I THANK YOU!!

Unfortunately I’m in an industry where diversity is not celebrated the way it should be. When some people see and hear something different it feels foreign to them and they don’t like that. Everyone has a choice of what they like and that’s a beautiful thing!!!

BUT Record labels, managers, publicist, journalist, media ect… have a tendency to see something work and try to reciprocate that with another artist thinking that’s what makes success. To me what makes success is letting people be truly who they are.

“When I heard Kanye’s “Everything I Am” I instantly fell in love. I felt my story somewhere in his. I felt his frustration yet acceptance of who he was. So I decided to put my own little twist on it:)

Warning: This song in NO WAY shape or fashion has a negative light to any of the artist I mention…I love and respect them ALL. I am just simply expressing myself and my story. When I say F.U. I am talking to no one in particular, only those that feel guilty of categorizing :)”

You can listen to the track below:

Awesome track. I’m really respecting Solange’s artistry more as the days go by.

‘F*ck The Industry’ is slated to feature on Solange’s forthcoming mixtape ‘I Can’t Get a Clearance’ (due in the coming months).

Hit or Miss?

I cannot help but find this ‘new found’ image that Solange insists on telling us about (in every format imaginable), somewhat contrived.

What she is doing is not new, it’s not even that innovative. It is a HUGELY recyclable genre that for me, offers little to the music industry as it stands.

No doubt she had to do a style different to Beyonce’s as she would always be Robin to her Batman. However, do not delude yourself that you are innovative when you are going for a sound that was first popularised nearly 50 years ago.

Should of left it alone cause Kanye killed the track. Sure she’s being different but different doesn’t automatically equal good. I’m not saying that she’s not but think about, she had to be different in order for her to try to keep people from comparing her to her sister. Unfortunately for Solange…she will always be a shadow of her sister’s career, that’s just the way it is.

She’s like a more outspoken Beyonce

  8. DJ Triumph August 5, 2008

i like it. shes different but in her way.

I Love how people SWEAR that Solange is sooo “REAL”! I would be “REAL” too and say F the industry if My Sister was one of the richesst chicks in the game, and paying for my house and child. Her attitude is just like Tony Yayo, he doesnt care if he drops another album or not, He said his best friend is one of the Richest Rappers and he gets 50 Grand a night just to be 50 Cents hype man. So he too says *beep* The Industry! So does Memphis Bleek, because Jay-Z got him for Life!

I posted the first message in this thread so you know where I am going with this….

    I think Solange is ten-a-penny.

If you want to check out someone who dances to their own drum, doesn’t just break the rules but annihilates them…then check out this woman – Ebony Bones:

she sounds great over the track,i think that her vocals are gettin much more better

and to the person saying that its easy for her to say that because bey is her sister and shes rich blah blah blah…..how do you know solange doesnt have her own things going on to make money?? She’s always been different from bey,it didnt just start now.

  13. Anonymous August 5, 2008

B*******, she was never this Wreckless before but I guess since she had a seed at sixteen and all She’s more “real” now. NO, It was a mistake, now after that comes this new Balls Out, F*** The World persona to capitalize on!

  14. Ricobitch August 5, 2008

u know what i say f*** yall cuz the woman wants to bring a old style back for sum people that r sick of all the same old s*** now im bey’s number 1 fan but all her stuff sounds a like all the r and b stuff sounds a like solange and keri hilson i want to say thank u cuz i need somthing new to jam to and like solange said if u dont like it then do f*** with it… and oh yea by the way she has been doing her own thing the whole time if u o back and see her when she danced for her sister she looked crazy and wild and she do have her own money she has a toy line out and about to do kids books so she is not just resting on her big sister i wish people would just give new stuff even if its old a chance cuz its people like me that need more to bump other then the same old s*** just with a diffrent singer

  15. Anonymous August 5, 2008

The song was great. Weather she’s recycling old school songs or whatever it’s great I like it. Sol do your thing!! Lots of Love to you!!!

  16. Anonymous August 5, 2008

Kanye could not have said it better…..There will always be somebody that shoot down any dream There’ll always be haters, that’s the way it is
Hater n***** marry hater b****** and have hater kids.
Sol do your thing, people like what they like. I like your style in music and fashion. More power to you!!

For those who say she is trying to hard to be different, well thats only because you want her to be like her sister. They are different and similar in many ways. But SHE IS NOT BEYONCE. BEYONCE IS NOT SOLANGE.

She had a child at 17, yeah. She is proud of her son too. I know people who have had children young and so do most of you!

And yeah this is just like old school music and so is everything out now, it had to have some kind of base. Nothing is new under the sun. But Solange stands out to me because she is traveling on her own route and not following her sister’s or Rhianna’s like most tend to do.

Sam you should post the studio version of T.O.N.Y, it leaked. Another great track!

    You’re missing the point.

Firstly, just because someone has an opinion different to your own, it does not make them a hater. The fact you cannot evaluate the opposing opinion, makes you uneducated. Simple as that.

Secondly, her first album was standard, run of the mill, RnB by numbers stuff…no-one can deny that. It did not work, so what does Solange do? She does what is popular right now (et al Amy Winehouse, Duffy etc etc) I call this jumping on the bandwagon.

I am not denying that she isn’t a good singer, good songwriter, good dancer, good performer etc etc. What I am saying is that every once in a while the artist should let the music do the talking and stop trying to be controversal in order to push a further few units.

She is coming across as contrived and arrogant and I see her as setting herself up for a fall.

I guess only time will tell…but trust me when I say I have seen this all before and done better.

Just two superbly talented English artists for you there who let the music do the talking.

  19. Anonymous August 5, 2008

JUST BECAUSE U LIKE BEYONCE, DON’T MEAN U HAVE TO LIKE HER SISTER, THE SONG IS A BORE, NO ONE HAS DONE HER S***, SO WHY SAY F*** THE INDUSTRY. THERE IS NO REASON FOR HER TO SWEAR SHE WOULD OF BEEN BETTER OFF SINGING A SONG CALLED UP YOURS.

SHE IS A NEW ARTIST AND COMES ACROSS LIKE SHES TRYING TO BE ALL COOL, SHE NEEDS TO DROP THE ATTITUDE B4 THE RECORD COMPANY DROPS HER

  20. Stephanie August 5, 2008

Don’t know who Josh is talking to. I doubt he was responding to my coment because I didn’t mention anything about haters/hatings.

  21. Anonymous August 5, 2008

is that song from kanye west???

  22. Anonymous August 5, 2008

I wanna listen to the song while looking at the lyrics…

The cussing was a bit much for me, and her vocals seemed kinda mushed/mumbled together

  23. Anonymous August 6, 2008

Everyone has an opinion. Everyone is unique in their own way, we all have our own style in fashion, music and the way that we raise our children and live our lives, it’s ok to agree and disagree no harm in having a discussion and voicing ones opinion. Solange she’s ok she’s just starting out… so yes like every new artist or people from all walks of life their will always be someone that has their opinion of us and it’s ok. Oh and I do agree no one has to cuss to get their point across using bad language does not change any type situation. LOVE & PEACE PEOPLE!

  24. Anonymous August 6, 2008

^^^^^^^^ LOL UR FUNNY BUT U HAVE A POINT

  25. Anonymous August 6, 2008

What the hell is she saying I can’t understand cause her words are mumbled together

  28. Bambi August 7, 2008

I've been following Solange since she came out & I think she's really grown up and out-

She's been married, had a kid, got divorced, all this life experience, it's refreshing that she's doing her own thing & not trynna be Beyonce #2

  29. Bambi August 7, 2008

Hehe.. Oh I just noticed, she says:

“If you don’t like it, I didn’t make it for YOU”

    :]

  30. Anonymous August 7, 2008

This is my first time really listening to solange and I actualy liked the song so keep doing your thing solange.

  31. Anonymous August 8, 2008

    TO JOUSHA

LIKE SHE SAID….IF U DONT LIKE IT SHE DIDNT MAKE IT FOR U…AND WHY DO U CARE SO MUCH..U ARENT ON HER PAY ROLL…..PPL TAKE TIME TO WRITE THINGS ABOUT PPL THAE DONT LIKE..I NEVER DID GET THAT.

  32. joshua August 8, 2008

Again, another imbecile misses my point entirely.

Have I once said I do not like her? NO.

I actually (physically) purchased her first album so I have somewhat contributed to her feeding her son. That was not my point at all.

Why would this blog give us the ability to write comments if we only commented on things we like? That would be highly boring. The fun part comes when you can entertain someone else’s opinion without acting up like a Neanderthal!

All I have said, and will continue to say is that Solange thinks she is being innovative/pushing boundaries/coming fresh….well she isn’t! All she has done is re-hash some 60’s soul. She has not reinvented a genre or remastered it. She is using an age old formula that is popular right now, and doing so to her advantage. All music these days is a commodity. She (or should I say, Matthew) understands this.

However, the problem for me comes when she insists on telling us she is different/unique/innovative/fresh. You never see boy bands or girl groups who know they are re-hashing a tested formula do this. So why does Solange think she is a torch bearer for the ‘new’ when she just really isn’t.

I actually quite like some of the songs I am hearing from her…I just wish she would let the tracks do the talking and stop trying to be a revolutionary!

  33. Anonymous August 8, 2008

^^^^^^^^^ Josh you are so right, agree with 100%

  34. Anonymous August 9, 2008
