Janet Talks Def Jam, Tour & More

Janet Talks Def Jam, Tour & MoreDuring a recent interview with Billboard, Pop superstar Janet Jackson addressed a number of things including her current status with Def Jam, what to expect from her ‘Rock Witchu Tour’ and more. Check out excerpts from the interview below:
On Status With Island Def Jam

I can’t say if we’ll be working with them in the future,” Jackson said today (Sept. 4) during a conference call with reporters to promote her upcoming Rock Witchu Tour. “I don’t know what the future holds between the two of us.”

On Her Tour:

“It’s two hours of dance” she says. “This show is all for the fans,” Jackson told Billboard.com during the call. “They tell me what they’d like to hear, what they’d like to see, what they want. And this is what I’m trying to give them.”

Future Plans:

“We’ve been talking about something for TV, also a DVD,” she confirmed, the latter of which may include “past stuff I’ve done that wasn’t previously released,” including possibly a Japanese TV performance that was filmed in High Definition during the Rhythm Nation 1814 Tour in 1990. “Just a nice package for the fans,” Jackson explained. “They’ve been asking for it for so long, and they truly deserve it.”

Jackson said that she definitely” intends to keep the Rock Witchu Tour going beyond its current Oct. 22 wrap in Dallas, with more U.S. dates and legs that are currently being discussed for Europe, Asia, Australia, Russia and “some parts of the Middle East. It hasn’t been etched in stone. It’s still being put together. People will hear about it in a little while.”

Despite the ‘situation’ with Def Jam not being an ideal one, it’s good to see Janet being so frank about the matter…not sugar-coating anything. Anyway…roll on next week, I’m really anticipating seeing the unveiling of her much anticipated show.

Can't wait to see the tour…I just hope that she doesn't attempt to do 30 songs. It would also be nice if she dropped/leaked/released something Jam & Lewis written and independently financed and ended her relationship with IDJ.

    Bring it on Janet!!!!

It had nothing to do with D.J. promoting her. Her style is wack. She can’t sing, and her moves are old as hell. Doesn’t mean she has to throw in the towel. Just stop trying to blame others for her tiredness. She’s still Janet. Just work the music that she already has out there.

i agree with the comment above. She’s is not relevant anymore! her wispy vocals worked a decade or more back and she had good songs, but now the youths have ciara and cassie who are equally as boring and talentless.

  10. Anonymous September 5, 2008

To all u haters who want her to retire: Why are you commenting or reading the information about her if you don’t like her? Why waste ur time? I know I have better things to do. Here’s something for you: GET A HOBBY!!! Hating isn’t cute!

^right on! lol… Um, but yea… She needs to leave IDJ and finance her own work. Thats the new trend. Besides, when you finance your own project, you can do what the hell you want, promote yourself the way you want and make yourself your own success…. If you want things done right, you gotta do it yourself…… Thats when Janet will truly comeback!

While I never thought Discipline is considered one of her classic albums, it’s still well-crafted pop music, and I really loved the video for Feedback as it should be recognized as one of the top 5 videos made in 2008. Janet NEVER disappoints when it comes to live performances, so I have no doubt that her tour will be praised. I just don’t like any of her management/promotion, and how the tour seems a little disorganized.

It’s over for her that’s why she’s running into all these problems!

Janet jas sold over 100 million albums. She is a dancer, singer, actress, business woman, and s** symbol. Her concerts are a huge show and brings in huge audiences. It definitely is not over for Janet. If anything, she is just beginning. In the past three months she finished tour rehearsals, launched a clothing line, began taping her TV show, and negotiated two DVD deals. Obviously she is not retiring and its not over for Janet
