Kanye West – ‘Love Lockdown’ Video

Published: Tuesday 7th Oct 2008 by Sam

The video for Kanye West’s much talked about new single ‘Love Lockdown’ premiered, interestingly enough, on Ellen yesterday. Apparently artists/labels are looking to diversify into different lanes to promote their projects. Anyway, enough of my waffle…

Like the song, the video is certainly out there. ‘Out there’, in the good way, that is. I’m really liking what Kanye is serving up with this new album ‘808s & Heartbreak’ thus far, which has me definitely anticipating the LP’s release on November 25th.

What do you think of the video?

Kanye never ceases to amaze me. He’s always doing something different. I admire that about him.

LOVE YE, BUT I GUESS I REALLY DON’T GET THIS VIDEO. MAYBE I WILL HAVE TO WATCH A FEW MORE TIMES

So it may just be me….but I honestly have no idea what that was about? Someone wanna explain it in a dumbed down tone…because if there is any symbolic meaning to that video, I obviously missed it. Great looking video though, and although I like the new remix better, the song is still pure fire. And to hell with what some people are saying about the vocoders….if you wanna use it (and you use it effectively, then your golden.)

His love for her is kind of haunting him. not in a scary way, but not knowing what to do in his realationship is driving him crazy. he loves her but he does not know what to do to show her that. “im not loving u like I wanted to”

I couldn’t get with this song at first. All I could think about is that there was NO RAPPING! That changed though. I started feeling the track, then refused to because I thought to myself I would hate it if someone else had done it. I can’t deny it though. It’s a dope ass song. The video is amazing! Visually stunning and surprisingly emotionally stimulating. Can’t say that I “get” the whole concept yet, but I love it. Fresh out the kitchen like Chicago artists/music. That’s whats up Joe.

Busta did this already in Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Can See.

Kanye just recycled an old video here.

LoL…that last comment was just wrong. Sam how can you call Ciara’s piece of crap video of the year when people are putting out stuff like this? Talk about creative expression (which Ciara’s video lacks)and the ability to create a story with a video. I still don’t even like this song but I sat through the whole video just to see what was going to happen next. Whoever has an album coming out anytime soon should be scared. Kanye is putting everyone to shame right now.

I’m not a fan of Kanye . . . However I do admire his willingness to step outside of the box . . . Definitely makes you say HMMMMMMMMM

Ummmm Whatever Ciara video is the BUSINESS!!!!!!!!! Everytime someone does something “out there” folks act like we have to like it. It’s ART so we do not have to like it or think it is groundbreaking. Personally I don’t lik ethe song much and the video did not do much to change that. THe video was okay to me. I respect him for trying to challenge himself. I also liked the imagery but it still didn’t move me. In Ciara video I could see her hunger. It was like this chick is out to show the rest why she is who she is. Plus Her dancing as well as the visual raised the bar in my opinion.

Kanye’s my man n all..and im feelin his direction 4 the new project but this video sucks…i mean its boring 2 me…i mean how is this diffrent? From the sound of the drums..its was obvious that SOMEONE would be bangin on some drums in the vid..PREDICTABLE.. Its a plain white weird video..thats just my opinion..coulda been waaaaaaaaaayy betta.

That song is one of the weakest pieces of garbage especially vocally but just in general that I have ever heard
He should leave the singing to Peven Everett clearly he is trying to compete with the man and it’s one Peven Everett zero for Kanye West

I think that Kanye is trying to show what monotony his music portrays

  21. Anonymous October 8, 2008

Did you ever notice Kanyes videos are really dramatic to hise the fact that the songs are usually just huge samples or not very good?

  22. Anonymous October 8, 2008

I’m not really feeling the video or the song but I’ve gotta give props to Kanye for taking a risk and doing something different.

  23. Anonymous October 8, 2008

wow i didn’t know so many people didn’t like kanye.. meanwhile I absolutely love this song to death and the video really set it off!! and somebody described what he’s sayin perfectly- it’s like the back and forth of not knowing what to do in a relationship, and i think it is kind of haunting him; at the end of the video he’s crumbled up on the couch holding his head… (and i really think he’s talking about a boy! lol) but were the people part of a dream/nightmare he just woke up from??

**and this is just a side comment for all haters talkin’ bout ciara’s video- she really really showed her ass in that video!! yes, it was visual and yes she danced that ass off once again.. i’ve loved the majority of her videos but this one just blew all of them out the water.. i don’t quite know how it compares to kanye tho–it’s just a matter of taste i guess.. both of these videos are the shyt tho, hands down!!

I agree with this person because it is the only thing that actually makes sense to me. Someone sent this to me in an email and I understand it better this way then what I have read. The song at first, I didn’t like it but now i love it. The video I don’t like that much.

it’s love symbolized through primal and tribal means. About how it can feel to have all of it to yourself, with no one knowing, just in your head. That living room is Kanye’s mind and everything and everyone else are his thoughts and feelings.

Love can be like a wild untamed animal. Uncontrollable, violent, unpredictable. But, it can also have the natural movement of an animal: slick yet stable, power balanced with grace, like the steady vibrations of a beating heart … or drum. Humans tend to forget that they have primal instincts, tribal thoughts, animal rhythm. We can blend mental love and fleshly lust; we can make a war of it. It’s painful and raw, but it’s human.

What’s also human is that we realize our emotions, and then fight them (for a variety of reasons; personal, social, cultural). We cage the animality of love that wants to run wild and free. Wants to love who it loves with no thought getting in the way of what it desires. Without having to hide it and lock it up. We lose.
