The first week of X Factor 2008 live shows started last night here in the UK. Check out my 2 Pence below: {For those unfamiliar with the show; The X Factor is the UK’s version of American Idol – with a twist in that groups and over 25’s are eligible to enter. The show also birthed the career of a certain Leona Lewis}
With the anticipated theatrics of the audition stage being over, the real work starts with the live shows. Now under the watchful eyes of millions, we’ll begin to see who are feasible stars and who can simply carry a note. As for last night’s show, it’s becoming increasingly obvious that both Alexandra Burke and Laura White are leading the pack – by a mile. Check out their performances on last night’s live show below:

Alexandra is da 1 i want 2 win! She is so talented!

Ohhh these were my picks and they didn't let me down..
Although Alexandra song was abit obvious i'm glad she got to show a more up-tempo side to her as she's a ballad queen lol.
Laura does some amazing stuff vocally and has great tones. I loved her performance
Diana has such a eerie sound that it kind of captures you. Love has awkwardness she has..
Cheryl Cole has such a strong category and all three artist sung the right songs to open week 1 (US & UK Number 1's Theme)..
Austin has more to give but a good start.
I feel Simon Cowell has put all his hopes in this artist and the other two may suffer very soon.
JLS have potential but did a plain safe version of Boyz II Men: I'll Make Love 2You.
No ad-libs and the so called high note that was hyped wasn't even a high note. More to come I think and its a tough song for your 1st week really.
Rachel really mad me laugh and she made the best out of a bad song choice by her mentor Danni Minogue(she had shocking song choices for all her artist IMO).
Rachel has alot of charisma and ghettoness and raw talent, those ingredients with the right song and she's gonna be Great!!
As harsh as may sound the others bar two (Ruth & Eoghan) not really worth a mention as yet..
Overall its the best and most consistant opening show of the X-factor YET!!!
A few tuning issues here and there but nothing major. Some VERY weird choices by the mentors/judges(only Cheryl got it 100% right this week) didn't stop this week being a hard week to judge for voters, so as per usual some things never change as a female group suffer the public fate!!
Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 week will be interesting next week.. It seems this fits into the hands of all the major players in the competition.
Who may struggle the most could be Scott, Girlband, Daniel and Ruth i think..

BOTH Laura & Alexandra are better than Leona Lewis, they are better performers with the choreography etc & they have bags more personality.

I really liked Girlband’s performance last night, what the hell were they two girlbands doing in the bottom two?! I loved Girlband’s performance!

i LOVED alexandra’s performance but imo laura sounded like she was suffering from multiple personality disorder or sumthin. its gr8 she showed off her vocal range but it got a tad scary after a while

I loved alexandra’s performance. I am hoping she goes all the way on the show. I would love to hear a record by her over here in the states.
It’s about time Simon took the U.K seriously, he spends half the time in the U.S more often than not in American Idol with great international singers and come back here and chooses tripe! But this year is great. Cheryl has the strongest group and all her singers were great, i hope she can just continue the good song choices and stage shows. Alexandra is my favorite but doubt that she’ll win because the history of x factor is that darker skin back people never win, but she is amazing and natural, i also like Laura but feel she’s a bit Amy Winehouse at times, and with Adel, Amy and Duffy she needs to separate herself from the crowd . I also have a soft spot for Rachel who i hope will have better luck with the song choices and outfits next week. Overall is been good T.V. The guys are rubbish. Austin sounds like Lee Ryan from Blue so lack originality.
Cheryl has the strongest catorgery without a doubt, Laura’s perfomance wasn’t perfect, she didn’t start off that great, was a few off key notes and out of tune moments, almost like she had two different singing voices, however she pulled it off but it wasn’t perfect.
Alex, can sing, she has a nice strong voice, can’t wait to see her sing a balled. JSL, didn’t like their song choice, it so predictable for a group of black boys to sing a Boys To Men song on xfactor, before they came on I was thinking I hope they don’t do Boys to Men and they did, however they are really good singers and they pulled it off
Laura cannot sing, and that will show more next week. She will not last. She runied the song from the start. Couldnt believe when they said she did well…madness. Anyway, hopefully Alexandra will win it…she’s great…as Cheryl said, she can sing anything. Rachel is soo rude, and hopefully will leave soon too….
Laura can sing although she had a weird 1st note. Kinda ignorant to say a person who can sing can't. Its ok if she not a fav of people but she defo can blow.
Alexandra supa hot a did great (LOVING HER). You may have heard her type of voice be4 but she can damn sang and is gifted.
Rachel isn't rude and entitled to express her concerns over song choice(which she was right about BTW). Luckily like sum1 mentioned her personality and showmanship got her through.

Ruth(spanish chick) needs to structure when she sings in english & spanish better but she did good 2.
Didn't like the older guys song(key he was singing in) or performance.
Feeling JLS but still think they got more to bring..
Both girlgroup lacked fun and charisma but the one who stayed was better imo.
