Alexandra Performs ‘Hero’ At The Millies

Published: Thursday 18th Dec 2008 by Sam

X Factor victor Alexandra Burke is everywhere here in the UK at the moment. The 20 year old performed ‘Hero’ sans the rest of the final 12 X Factor finalists – whose collective version recently topped the Official UK chart – at The Millies, an event to honor the nations bravest.

Granted her rendition wasn’t flawless, it definitely has me even more proud that she won. The richness of her tone is reminiscent to that of a certain Ms. Houston, something I couldn’t have ever imagined saying about a British talent show contestant (sad, but true). With there being increasing talk of Simon Cowell prepping Alex for International stardom, it wouldn’t surprise me if by this time next year she’s a star on both sides of the Atlantic.

What do you think of the performance?

She has the total package but they need to really take their time to train her voice to perfection 10 weeks is not enough time to take a raw talent to how great she could be.

I think once she has had the time for her voice to memorise and get comfortable with the vocal training and develope her range she is gonna be unbelievable…she will enhance and add to those rich and beautiful tones she already has and get confident in exploring just what her voice can do.

I thought she did good. She is getting alot of exposure for the holidays I see. I hope she goes worldwide on her upcoming album.

I have to admit… I wasn’t a huge fan in the beginning. She continually got better and better and now I see what all of the hype has been about. I certainly hope she makes her way over here to the U.S. and conquers all of the world. I loved the performance and the rich tones to her voice. I want to hear more!!!! Congratulations Alexandra. You deserved the win.

What is this flawless performance it is you’re always looking for Sam? Flawless comes with experience and age. I think the performance was good, its clear that she’s now used to singing that song with the other contestants and thats where a few insecurities maybe happened.
I’m really hoping they get the music right! Uptempo is difficult because it really is about the hook, beat and crossover appeal whilst targeting 2 markets without sounding like a second rate somebody else. I really hope it goes well for Alex – i really like her

I think you are reaching a little far with that Whitney Houston comment!

I’m on the fence with Alex, i think her voice is good, but i don’t think she is as amazing as the whole x factor phenomenon made her seem.
She’s consistent, and shes obviously very hungry for the success but i have a strange feeling, she’ll become one of those artists who will do what the label says and drift away from her idea of what music she wants to put out.
As far as this performance goes, she was okay…Whitney is a compliment too far though Sam!

Good but I didn’t see no Ms. Houston. Maybe U wrote this message too early in the morning…

wouldnt say whitney. But I definately hear abit of a Toni Braxton vibe.

From what I’ve seen of her, I’m not impressed. I think Leona’s talent far exceeds alexandra’s. I don’t see her coming over here to the U.S. anytime soon and if she does, she better have a hit on her hands.

^^^^^ Some of you America’s are so harsh, should send over Same Difference for a laugh

    American’s I mean

I think she can make it. Just find a Toni Braxton replacement.

I see the comparisons a lot, and she’ not at Toni’s level. I still prefer her over what’s out now.

Its sill the Leona comments, they are different singers with different voices Like Whitney, Mariah and i guess it it depends what you like. I personally like Alex’s voice better as although i think Leona can sing i think she’s very mariah circa 90’s with more of a pop voice and less soul, i also think her music is very middle of the road (ballads) and not very risky. I also really like fantasia for the same passion and soul in her voice. I don’t think that a few people from the states are going to dictate who is going to be successful in the states after we gave you Estelle, Adele, Amy and Duffy who are all or have nominated for Grammy’s and have given you some of the best music you haven’t heard in years. Alexandra can sing! she has a strong voice and a stage presents as long as she is given the right material which is what makes any artist regardless of talent – she’ll be okay. Go Girl!!!

Wow whitney? Not even a little bit

There will never be another Whitney! Alexandra sucks c*** for breakfast.

  17. Anonymous December 20, 2008

And i’m guessing you ^^^ suck c*** for lunch and dinner, snacks and whenever your man tells you you’re a b****. There will be another Whitney or Mariah but i think Sam is saying that maybe the two artists are the next nearest thing. Kinda the same as jazmine sullivan is compared to Lauryn Hill

Alex is a talent in her own right and no point comparing her to Leona jus because they both Brits. Alex did what Leona doesn’t have in her locker, and thats dance quite a few times throughout this years X-factor.
That shows Alexandra can perform as well as sing so she’s got a good chance at doing well if the right producers, writers, choreographers and style team come together.

Her voice may not be so unique but shes got good power and a husky, raspy tone to work with so i look 4ward to what comes next.

Okay Sam . . . the Whitney Houston comparison is WAY too much . . . She is a raw talent and with training she will definitely step her game up . . . You are always referring to a flawless performance . . . it’s rare these days that you come across one of those . . . so stop holding your breath . . . Hell Mariah barely delivers one these days and we all know that powerhouse she once was . . . Give Alex sometime and she will come into her own . . .
