X Factor 2008: Live Shows – The Final – TGJ ‘2 Pence’

Published: Saturday 13th Dec 2008 by Sam
X Factor 2008: Live Shows - Week 9The final of X Factor 2008 live shows aired tonight here in the UK. Check out my 2 Pence on the show below:

{For those unfamiliar with the show; The X Factor is the UK’s version of American Idol – with a twist in that groups and over 25’s are eligible to enter. The show also birthed the career of a certain Leona Lewis}
I must begin by congratulating my girl Alexandra for winning tonight! It definitely makes me proud to live in a country that has been able to produce such a talent. A talent I believe is very much a world class act. Week in and week out, Alexandra has delivered the goods and then some. Very proud of her. Very.
My phone has been going off non-stop about Alex’s show stopping performance of ‘Listen’ with none other than Beyonce (special ‘hey’ to Sean, Kwame, Jonelle, Sandra, Nathan, Jamell ‘Mr Damaje’, Leon and co!). You can also check out Alex’s performances of ‘Silent Night’ below (the other performances will be added as they become available):

Alexandra & Beyonce – Listen

Alexandra – Silent Night

Alexandra – Hallelujah (Winner’s Song – 1st Performance)

Winning Moment

Winner’s Performance

Beyonce – If I Were Boy

That Beyonce and Alexandra performance was TV gold. Amazing stuff. So so glad Alex won – I even did a victory lap in my street (don’t watch that LOL). I really think there is something in the stars this year – Obama, Vogue’s Black Issue, Lewis Hamilton and now Alexandra. So proud right now. Here’s to a great career.

Randomness: I must say it’s somewhat satisfying to note that we here at That Grape Juice have been rooting for Alex since day 1. Day 1. LOL.

Your thoughts?

    BEYONCE IS PLATINUM!!!!!!!!!

NOVEMBER 18 ALBUM DROPPED= DECEMBER 10 CERTIFIED PLATINUM

FOR YOU HATERS ,THAT EQUALS 1,000,000 IN 18 DAYS

    ALSO: BEYONCE IS LEGENDARY!!

Pop superstars Beyoncé, Boyzone and Westlife made surprise appearances earlier in the night to lend the three finalists their support.
Beyoncé appeared from backstage to riotous applause to duet on her song Listen with Alexandra.
The two girls gave everything they had, but the experience proved to be a little too much for starstruck Alexandra, who began crying.
She tearfully told the legendary U.S. singer: ‘You’ve made my dreams come true.’
Beyconcé told host Dermot O’Leary: ‘She’s a superstar. She’s such a beautiful young lady.’
Beyoncé comforts a tearful Alexandra after their duet
Beyoncé later performed her latest single If Were A Boy, her powerful voice showing why she’s one of the most successful singers in the world

    Hallelujah Alex Won!!!!

Her and B’s performance was just so rated! They smashed it, especially B! And did anyone watch Xtra Factor where Alex said she asked B if she could be her supporting act on her UK tour and she said yeah. I am so going to see B now!!! They both just seem so humble. What a great pairing.

And a last congrats to Alex! A true British talent!

  9. djbaps December 13, 2008

OMG AMAZING THE LISTEN PERFORMANCE CAN’T STOP WATCHING IT FRINKING AMAZING THIS IS WHY BEYONCE IS MY IDOL AAAAAAAMMMMAAZZZZZINNNNNG

  10. YaChi December 13, 2008

Alexandra song “Listen” better than Beyonce. I’m sorry but all that vibrato and screaming B did was so over the top. It’s a ballad. You don’t have to do all that extra stuff.

You’re calling people haters and it took Beyonce almost 3 weeks to go platinum. Her first solo album it took a week, the second album a week and a half. That’s a sign of decline. I wouldn’t go bragging about that if I were you, especially since Britney Spears who can’t sing at all, hardly did any promotion and sold more than Beyonce in the first week. And don’t even get me started about Taylor Swift, a new comer on the country scene, out sold Beyonce in the first week and went platinum her second week.

    Be a fan, but don’t be ridiculous………sheesh.

Yes, I came here and made a comment just like you did, because I wanted to see the performances. And the last time I looked I could say whatever I wanted. You don’t like it, move on. Don’t read my post, kick rocks, etc, etc, etc. 🙂

  11. Anonymous December 13, 2008

i don’t really like it when beyonce performs “boy” live. she’s too over the top.

  12. Anonymous December 13, 2008

^^^LMAO AT HATERS…check ya facts about the previous albums platinum debuts cause you’re DEAD WRONG!!! I’m not going to 2 go further into stating facts about THE QUEEN, cause its pointless. ICON, LEGEND, DIVA…just know when she came to the stage for that duet EVERYONE in that building rose and stood at attention, ALL HAIL QUEEN B.

  13. Anonymous December 13, 2008

shut the f*** up fightin over whether beyonce is good or not. im not a major fan but goddam can that girl sing. hers and alexandra’s performance of listen was AMAZING there’s no other word for it. so glad she’s won, she’s going to be big

  14. Anonymous December 13, 2008

^^^ WTF?!! Bey smashed it!!! Alex’s did too, but Bey took the song to another level!!! Everyone ‘ere’s talking ’bout Bey! She literally killed it! Alex’s killed it too, but truly Bey’s on a level of her own!

  19. Anonymous December 13, 2008

I don’t love Alexandra. BUT I love her rendition of Hallelujah. It’s one of my favorite songs. Everything worked here.

  20. Ms Keia December 13, 2008

The Listen performance was AMAZING . . . Simon needs to check his talent radar . . . in the past he has said that Jennifer Hudson neither Beyonce can sing . . . JHud did And I Am Telling you and he had to eat a piece of CROW . . . after Beyonce’s performance last night . . . he needs to eat another helping . . .

    Congratulations Alexandra

  21. Anonymous December 13, 2008

WHOOOO, WHOOOO!!! YES, ALEX, YOU DID IT!

CONGRATS TO A WELL DESERVED WINNER!

  22. Anonymous December 13, 2008

LOL!!! Beyonce’s performance of “If I Were A Boy” was joke. Especially at the end when she sings to that guy and touches his face. Ha, he got enough shy.

  23. Anonymous December 14, 2008

I am so happy for alex! I hope she makes it global. I hope they promote her here in the states. She is really a star and so humble. You could tell she wanted it so badly. I wish her nothing but the best and I will be getting her album and support her. Congrats.

  24. Anonymous December 14, 2008

Alex is the s***!!! She held her own next to Beyonce and the performance was international! we know Simon wasn’t a fan from the start and favored Laura, Diana (see questions asked at the xfactor press conference) and when the others left and he realised the fan base he became a fan and saw pound signs – but like he said “if she didn’t win there would be a riot”
I voted and have already purchased the single. Best money i’ve spent

  25. antertain December 14, 2008

Sorry i wanted to talk bout bee 1st BUT WOOO Alexandra stole the show throughout the whole of this X-factor season then she became world class after Candy Man performance and her levels went up week after week.

SHE SUNG WITH BEYONCE lots of Artist would be intimidated but Alex let her raspy hot vocals do the talkin.. HOW CLASSIC was that duet and Beyonce so gracious. Did any1 hear Bee's Harmony note with Alex at the end of Listen…

Silent Night: Blew the competition Away sung beautifully (last notes not really neeeded but Hot all the same)

LISTEN Duet: CLASSIC reality T.V. Moment CLASSY from BOTH artists. (Alexandra had 2 Cry and Bee knows she got powers to inspire lol)

You Are So Beautiful: Alex's voice SHINES on this song her vocal tone sits so well and I love hearing her sing this song

Hallelujah 1: Wow thats how u bring home a song JLS kept it simple and nice BUT Alex gave her SOUL to the song and made it hers to have.

Hallelujah 2: I wondered how she gonna pull through all that crying & if u watch her lips after 1st verse and chorus she says "Thank You God" then SHE BLEW & Sung with full heart and passion like a true singing pro.

I'm proud of the public this year as 2 black acts were in the final 2 and i know its not a colour thing in theory, how ever usually it ends up being that. Leona broke the barrier being mixed race and NOW a 1st fully black winner of the X-factor in what had to be the hardest year yet with loads of talented artist.

My Top 3 prediction at the start was Laura, Alexandra and possibly Austin or Rachel but hey at least one of my picks won hehe..

Well done 2 JLS for reaching so far and they gonna be biggest Boy Group in UK soon with the popularity they got. There performance of "I'm Already There" was the best, they sung really good. I hope from now on they share leads though because i think 2much weight was put on Aston's shoulders.

Eoghan i never thought he'd get so far in the comp with the mutiples of talent that was in this years final 12 but he was very consistant and grew along the way so i can't fault him 4being popular.

Overall a strong year for X-factor and it's good so many good singers entered. There was a mixed bag of styles and genres so was very good viewing for me especially after last years weak winner IMO.

    WELL DONE ALEXANDRA BURKE!!!!!

[Sidenote: Beyonce is the best PERFORMER in the world combining singing and dancing there is no other that does it LIVE like her with those 2element. Sales or No Sales its there 4our eyes to see]

    (P.S: Sorry 4such a long review LOL)

  26. ND December 14, 2008

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO ALEX IS MY DIAMOND GIRL!

  27. Anonymous December 14, 2008

i am soo happy both my faves were the final 2..i was slightly rooting for jls to win however decided they were better being runners up..reason being they can now look foward to taking their time with the album and i will most definetly buy it when it comes out!! so congrats to alex i rooted both jls and alex from day 1 and so so very happy!!! good luck to both.

p.s really unfortunate that one gets to perform with a superstar..advantage for alex there because i think the other 2 acts (bear in mind hate eggnogg!) should have a superstar to perform with..i was looking forward to rihanna and jls duet that was rumored (even though rihanna aint a great singer)but it would of made the competition interesting and not one sided from the off.

ANYWAYS GOOD LUCK TO ALEX HOPE YOU DO WELL!!! JLS YOU WILL HAVE SUCCESS TOO!!!XXXXXX

  28. Anonymous December 14, 2008

    i’m speechleessss! xD
the LISTEN duet is absolutely a GOLDEN TV MOMENT! xD

  29. Anonymous December 14, 2008

    LEAVE BRITNEY ALONE PLEASE

  30. Anonymous December 14, 2008

OMG!!! did any1 see that Simon Cowell stood up 1st when Alexandra introduced Beyonce?!?! hehehe… even the big name hater like himself has to make a standing ovation to our Q-Bee!

  31. Suga Brown December 14, 2008

Wow there could only be one winner and the right singer won

    Well Done Alexandra
    Miss Diva Girl

Well Done JLS for gettin so far & top 2. Woulda been good if Rihanna stepped up to help them out but she declined the offer..

  32. Anonymous December 14, 2008

I agree with Antertain on everything you said and I am so glad you made note, that this is the first time a black person has won, these type of competition.

I actually thought that the british public would never allow a fully black person
to win, This is the first time a black person has won a competition like this.

Leona Lewis did it for the MIXED RACE, NOW ALEXANDRA HAS DONE IT FOR THE BLACKS

  33. Anonymous December 14, 2008

Antertain, aint nobody readin that long ass essay, kmt! beyonce smacked it tho!!!!!

  34. Jiovanni December 14, 2008

I haven’t been paying attention to the show or the posts about the show but Alexandra is a great singer and she handled her own very well with Beyonce. It was a touching moment seeing a fan sing with her “hero” as she called her. Great job! Wish her much success.

  35. Anonymous December 15, 2008

Beyonce could sing with a chipmunk and make it sound great. That Listen performance was outstanding…..

  36. Anonymous December 15, 2008

“Listen” was fab-u-lous! It just goes to show how REAL talent only needs a mic and a voice…no strippers in the background, no neon lights, or pirate outfits, just two mics and two voices. Go ‘head ladies!
