New Song: Lil’ Wayne – ‘Prom Queen’

Published: Monday 26th Jan 2009 by Sam

Having enjoyed much success with his ‘Tha Carter III’ LP, rapper Lil’ Wayne is currently prepping the release of a rock-inspired album called ‘The Rebirth’ (due April 7th). The record will be preceded by first single ‘Prom Queen’, which you can listen to above. While the production has enough grit to accommodate the ‘hardest’ of rappers, Wayne misses the mark with this one. From the annoying vocoder effect, to the down right embarrassing chanting of ‘Prom Queen…prom queen’, this is just…no. Hell no. Here’s hoping Wayne isn’t the one who prematurely ends his ‘winning’ streak with this garbage.
Hit or Miss?

    This song is wack…

There’s a difference between an artist experimenting with new sounds (Kanye) and an artist using a gimmick to try and sell albums (Lil’ Wayne).

He ain’t experimenting with s*** other than autotune.

He don’t play an instrument (regardless of him pretending to play guitar), he can’t sing for s*** so he uses autotune to cover that up, and he don’t produce.
So what exactly is Lil’ Wayne experimenting with here?

He ain’t doing a damn thing other than trying to build on the current wave of hipster s*** going on and appeal to the white audience to sell more records.
Everything Wayne does is contrived and fake, from his clothing style to his so-called blood affiliation, to his “experimentation” with music.
He wasn’t on none of this tight pants wearing rock star s*** before the hipster movement started.

He saw that s*** catching on and decided to switch off to that before any of those artists could make a name for themselves in the mainstream.
Wayne gets no respect artistically or personally around here.

Just because you hang out with fall out boy doesn’t mean you
    should make music like them..

    Try mastering rap first.

This is just awful. I agree with what Sam said completely. It’ll be interesting to see if his fans are gullible enough to like this.

it is funny when people say lil wayne fans have to be gullible to like this…

the simple fact is people either like a song or not… nobody forces themselves to like a song because its a certain artist.

There are hundreds of lil wayne songs that never got radio play some good some bad… but the simple fact is if people like a song the buy it or the album and they request their radio station play it…
there is no gullibility in it… I wouldn’t expect an urban blogger to like a rock song anyways…
truth be told it is an overproduced rock song… but it is actually good. its different from alot of rock that is out there right now…

as far as being considered experimental… yes it is very no rock is not an experimental type of music but a hip hop superstar rocking is very much experimental….

Weezey already has and is going to get soo much more s*** for this.. and the funniest part is he will probably just laugh it off on his way to the bank.. because regardless of the criticism people in general I think are going to like this song
