Jay-Z and Alicia Keys took centre stage at the The World Series today in New York during Game 2, to perform their smash ‘Empire State of Mind’. As mentioned in previous posts, I’m not as big on the song as everyone else seems to be, however will call a great performance when I see one – and great it was. Even better was the fact that Lil’ Mama was nowhere to be seen!

I’m not sure about the hype for people who don’t live in New York but as for someone who does live in New York, I think it’s because lyrics and the melody do well to capture the essence of the city as well as the mentality of its citizens.

Alicia does make this song. I’m not a huge fan of Jay-Z, and this song can’t come near NY State of Mind, but Alicia’s vocals are crazy. You gotta love it how even the Phillies players were noddin’ their heads to this performance though. I can dig the performance… Yankee uniforms all in effect too!
