50 Cent On Kelly Rowland: “She Never Got The Shine Beyonce Did”

Published: Wednesday 4th Nov 2009 by Sam
kellyrowlandand50cent

In a recent interview with Billboard, rapper 50 Cent weighed in on the seemingly ever-raging debate about Destiny’s Child alum’s Beyonce and Kelly Rowland. Speaking of his ‘Baby By Me’ co-star, 50 said:

“You can’t forget all the work she did with Destiny’s Child. The difference between Kelly and Beyoncé is the extreme focus they put on Beyoncé to make sure she was completely right. Kelly wasn’t held in the same regard, so, in order for her to mean anything to America, they’d have to match the marketing dollars spent on Beyoncé. She never received the superstar treatment.”

While ol’ Curtis usually spouts the utmost of caca, I do actually agree with him here. Never one to explicitly compare the two myself, it’s quite a valid point that had Kelly, who is as fundamentally talented Beyonce IMO, had the machine that powers Bouncy’s brand given to her, she too would be a world-renown star. It’s important to stress that Beyonce’s current industry position isn’t based on the ‘machine’ alone; clearly the work she puts into her craft and artistry is what has taken her to that ‘future Icon’ status. However, had Kelly had it psychologically programmed into her that she was the business and was a ‘superstar-in-the-making’ in the way Beyonce had (see: pretty much everything Destiny’s Child), I imagine she’d be one of the world’s biggest stars today too. I mean if Rihanna can do it with next-to-no talent and soley the ‘machine’ powering her hype, then Kelly sure as hell could with her undeniable talent.

Some of you may wonder why I rep so hard for Ms. Kelly. Well, when you see talent of her calibre shunned and arguably made (inadvertently) to feel they are lesser (the reason I feel behind some of Kelly’s not-so-great performances), you can’t help but ‘stan’. For you know what they are capable of and able to achieve should all the right pieces of the puzzle be affixed. One need not look further than the undeniable swagger Kelly was exuding during the ‘Destiny Fulfilled project’, where I’d argue she gave Ms. Knowles-Carter a run for her money more times than not – everything from the weave-tossing, Naomi Campbell Walk’s and even, at times, vocals.

I never understood how it made more sense to some (who shall remain nameless) to not maximise the Destiny’s Child brand by ensuring each was as big a solo star as the possibly could be – a super group almost. In simpler terms, imagine a group – for example – with the individual ‘star-power’ of the Beyonce, Ciara and (because I couldn’t think of another name) Rihanna? That would be off-the-charts!

Again, I reiterate that this is in no way any shade on Beyonce, who we love around here. Just telling it like it is…

In any case, in being forward thinking, things are definitely looking up for Kelly, with her new team, soon-to-be-announced new label etc. Let’s just hope she gets the success she deserves this go round. (In true ‘stan’ fashion lol), I shall leave you with some of Kelly’s best showings…

I’m really, really proud of you Sam. You took a post about Kelly, Beyonce, and Destiny’s Child, and you STILL found a way to work in a Rihanna diss. You’ve come so far!

In other news: Timbaland pushed back his album. This probably had something to do with Rihanna sucking, too!

  2. Malibongwe November 4, 2009

Wow, u wrote something I agree with COMPLETELY. Even your ‘stan-ism’ is within limits… Lol. (via Twitter.com)

  3. Eve November 4, 2009

easy.. they didnt have money for 2! investing so much in B herself was risky at the beginning in INTERNATIONAL WORLD WIDE sense. They’d have to cut some investements in B to invest in Kelly.. now 80%B + 80%K is actually less then 100%B in the music industry…IMO!

  4. LEA November 4, 2009

uh no,no,and no.. Kelly IS NOT as talented as bey. What u sippin on this morning lol..

    • Pat October 17, 2019

I like Kelly and think she is a very lovely woman. However, her voice does not sound strong enough for her to be a solo superstar.

  5. B Rad November 4, 2009

Its funny that you say that because since Destiny Fulfilled tour, I have felt that Kelly has the goods (talents, looks, style, etc.) to be a huge star but the powers that be were not pushing her the way that she needed to make that happen. When Bey (who I love) comes out with an album, it is a world event. When Ms. Kelly came out, noone knew about it because she was not pushed. I can’t wait for Kelly’s album to come out and for her to be pushed up there with the Beyonce’s and Rihannas of the world. Please believe, it is coming!

  6. DC Fan November 4, 2009

A person who says that kelly is on the same league as beyoncé on vocals must be tone deaf, i won’t even metion dance/writing and other stuff.. i really luv Ms. Kelly, but.. she must work in so many things, c’mon 10 years in the game and she still do the same mistakes since bootylicious.. she doesn’t evolve? 🙁 and yes, i was a stan of kelly.

  7. Jr November 4, 2009

You make some good points about the powers-that-be not supporting Kelly, but at the end of the day you really cannot deny that Ms. Kelly is NOT as talented as B, not does she have the same star power. I don’t think Kelly could ever command a stage the way B does. She’s good and deserves more success than she’s seen, but she doesn’t have B’s sparkle.

While I think Kelly rowland is a beautiful woman, She is not Bey. Sorry.. fifty is just a hater.

  10. sosicc_witswagga November 4, 2009

  11. Sanity Kane November 4, 2009

I understand what you are saying, but doesn’t that kinda fall on Kelly’s shoulders also? I mean, she was “stanning” for Beyonce harder than anyone in the Universe (a stretch I know, done soley for dramatic effect). I mean while she could have been seeking to take control of her career, she seemed content to be in the background! JMO

  12. sosicc_witswagga November 4, 2009

ND SAME DONT EVER PUT RIHANNA IN THE SAME SENTENCE OF KELLY ROWLAND PLZ DONT EVER DO DAT ALTHOUGH I AINT THE BIGGEST KELLY ROWLAND FAN BUT SHE IS A TALENTED BEAUTIFUL WOMAN DAT CAN SANG DANCE AND ACT RIHANNA CANT DO NON OF THOSE THINGS PLZ SAM DONT EVEN KELLY CAN BACK HERS UP RIHANNA CANT EVEN THOUGH I LIKE RIHANNA SHE CANT COME CLOSE TO KELLY ROWLAND PLZ BELIEVE DAT…

  13. Dom November 4, 2009

Are u crazy? Kelly is no where near beyonce vocally!
And u cant say that with the same amount of money invested in kelly, she wuda hav been rhe beyonce of 2day… Kelly has no stage presence. She doesnt hav the xfactor.

Look at cassie for exam, diddy is pushin a lot more money in cassie, lol… And she still flopped… Jlo any1?

Put simple, y settle with kelly wen u can have beyonce?

  14. CJordN November 4, 2009

There were many potential Beyonce clones in the Destinys Child line-up. Kelly and LeToya are definitely 2 of the members who would have achieved mega status had then focus not been on Bianca. She’s my girl, but I hold Kelly and Letoya in high regard as well.

  15. bobs November 4, 2009

Beyonce is sexier, and has a 1000000x better voice. Not hating on Kelley, there is no comparison. Kelley hasn’t got what it takes. Sorry.

  16. Terrence November 4, 2009

I’m sorry but there is no amount of promotion in the world that would make me buy a Kelly album, I’m sorry. I just don’t like her voice. Sweet girl, she just doesn’t do it for me. Now while she is beautiful and at times more banging that Beyonce (Depends on the day and the wig). But when are people going to realize every “artist “is not meant to be a star. There are singers that can sing circles around most top artsts, but it takes more than that. I know people want to be huge and they want to blame others, switch directions when it doesn’t happen for them, but its not in the cards for everyone. Do I think Beyonce was pushed more than the others, yes, but Beyonce has the talent and drive to back it up and appeals to wider audience. Is it Micheal’s fault Jermaine was a flop, no, it just wasn’t meant to be, Micheal was the star point blank. The same phenomena that made Rihanna a star proves my point ,some people just have that “thing” about them. Even Kelly has had more opportunities than other artist, Amerie would kill for half of the promotion Kelly has gotten, does thta make her a better artist? Tamia said it best, she is grateful for the career she has, becaus she knows there is someone out there wishing they were in her shoes. Kelly good luck with your endeavors, but I’m willing to bet the outcome will be the same.

  17. david November 4, 2009

kelly and more talented than beyonce.o problem and so the record company spent money on bey and kelly left side, but now that she’s with a new producer and goes to a new label it will have the success it deserves, surely this new Her album will be a sucesso.e hopefully will do a show here in Brazil.i love kelly.

  18. Craver November 4, 2009

Actually during the days of Destiny’s Child, I did prefer Kelly Rowland quite a bit and I do still like her.

I think Kelly had and still does have the potential to be just as talented as Beyonce, but that’s just it; it’s the -potential-. She’s been in the game just as long as Beyonce has and yet it’s sad to say, she’s still churning out inconsistent performances and material. Eventhough she wasn’t pushed as the focus of DC like Beyonce may have been, she was still in all the performances and therefore has all the same experience. Kelly is not poor either and could have gotten herself into some intense training once she realized she was a bit behind, so Beyonce’s financial backing or “Start treatment” doesn’t really cover it why she’s more successful. Kelly, at her best, is great, but I have just never seen her command a stage like Beyonce and you can blame Beyonce’s father for that or the label, but at the end of the day it just comes down to that person realizing their own potential and ability and it seems Kelly is only -just now- getting around to that.

  19. d November 4, 2009

all i have to say is keep ciara’s name out of this

  20. B-RAD November 4, 2009

first kelly is a very good singer and she is just as good s beyonce. If you look at the vid of the national anthem Kelly is the one on top singing and belting and beyonce is in the mids. Also, people you are forgetting Kelly has been featured on some serious tracks that took the nation by storm.

  21. trucie November 4, 2009

omg i could lick 50 for finally pointing it out. Not that no one else has, but he’s someone ppl will actually listen to. Kelly has been shunned and only because Mathew and Tina knowles aren’t her parents. Not that it would matter if they were anyway because Solange doesn’t get that much shine either. On one hand I agree with Sam (this time) that if Rihanna could do so could Kelly. I have been rooting for this girl for so long and I’m just wishing that this next album will be great and she will get the promotion that an artist of her caliber and experience is worth. Kelly is definitely hungry but ppl need to open their ears. If you go back to the DC albums you hear her contribution. it wasn’t just Beyonce. Beyonce is a beast and has stepped on many ppl to get to where she is but Kelly has a real heart and hopefully this time around, her new label will spoil her rotten and she can finally get her shine w/o Bey’s big ass hips blocking. Despite what you may think of Rihanna, she’s the only b**** in the game to take Beyonce head on. With or without talent, you gotta give a b**** props for that. Holla! (PS. I luv all three women but Bey really needs to take a rest already before she fades completely)!

  22. Texas November 4, 2009

Believe me when I tell you,…if Kelly gets invested in like Beyonce did,….there will be no more beyonce……Its ridiculous how talented Kelly

  23. OmariJames November 4, 2009

Kelly did her thing. I felt like mathew shitted on her when she released Ms.Kelly. That always was sooo good. I loved it and still listen to it now. They all are different girls and have different talents, all – IMO – very much equal. Michelle did her thing too. Her recent albu
was very different, interesting and fun.

Like I said. All three different and excellent talents but the only missing element was promotion and lime light. Kelly and Michelle where treated as backup dancers and singers to me. Especially michelle who got the scrap lyrics at the end of each song.

They should of made songs that each of them could shine in. Kelly got her one balad supported by the two but what about Michelle.

I would of much rather seen songs where Michelle drove the song and songs here beyonce supported it and so on. They say when something isn’t broken , don’t try and fix it but they still should of took a chance.

  24. Keith November 4, 2009

How can you argue fifty? He knows the industry. I look at Sam’s commentary more as supporting fifty’s valid claim [I don’t know if that was what you were trying to persuade] .

Money pushed into an artists has a far greater say in how ‘huge’ they’ll become. Rihanna voice has not changed a bit since she came out, new look, greater budget and she’s on the way to stardom. I’m in no way saying that she doesn’t have talent, but Kelly Rowland has been around longer and is far more talented!

Now Beyonce’s talent can not be denied, stan or no stan, she’s remarkably talented, POINT BLANK. However, Kelly Rowland has a greater talent this most of those thrown in her category [excluding Bey]. When they were in a group together, Kelly was able to shine. But somehow Beyonce’s taken away from this element, and Kelly fails?! So it is without a doubt questionable on behalf of her old management team as well as record label.

  25. Keith November 4, 2009

Oh and since someone pointed out Solange being outshined by her sister. Kelly had less attention put into her work then Solange. Things that make you go hmmmmm. They are all very talented , but relations always play into an equation. It’s the way of the world.

  26. AubreyBOOM November 4, 2009

ONCE AGAIN I TOTTALY AGREE, I ALWAYS THOUGHT I WAS THE ONLY ONE WHO NOTICED THAT KELLY CAME INTO HER OWN ON THE ” DESTINY FULLFILLED” ALBUM……I’M REALLY GEEKED, ANXIOUS, ANTICIPATING ECT… WHAT KELLY IS GONNA BRING TO THE TABLE. IF SHE DOES THINGS RIGHT ON THIS ALBUM MEANING RELEASING THE RIGHT SINGLES, ANS DOING GOOD PROMOTION SHE’LL KICK A** THIS TIME AROUND. I MYSELF AM A HUGE KELLY SUPPORTER SO I’M REALLY EXITED TO SEE WHAT SHES BEEN COOKING UP N THE STUDIO. I HAVE FAITH N HER THAT SHE WONT DISAPOINT FANS LIKE ME WHO HAVE BEEN WAITING 4 THIS NEW ALBUM:)

  27. k504 November 4, 2009

I think JAY Z helped Beyonce out ALOT. Remember NOBODY LIKED HER! JAY has a loyal fan base and is well liked. Believe me if Beyonce would have came out with CRAZY in LOVE featuring BUN B or somebody besides Jay, she would be another AMERIE! Truthfully, after the DC drama I wasn’t even checking for Bey until she was with Jay.

  28. Nicholas November 4, 2009

I’m a hardcore Beyonce stan, and while I agree with some of your points, Kelly does not have half the talent Beyonce does. Period. Kelly has undeniable swag in her performances, she should be bigger than Rihanna, Ciara, and whoever else with minimal talent, and true, she worked it out in these videos, but Beyonce was in front for two reasons: 1) She’s the manager’s daughter and 2) she should have been in the first place. Why? Because her talent is superior.

  29. get me November 4, 2009

true I can’t lie I became a beyonce fan because of jay-z ,I’m a huge jay fan and I could stand beyonce but after she got with him and she never went away I said whatever and just gave her a chance

  30. shedaman November 4, 2009

i completely agree w/ b-rad. kelly gave trina her biggest hit w/ here we go, gave nelly his biggest hit w/ dilemma, gave david guetta his w/ when love takes over. kelly is beautiful and talented but really slept on here in the u.s. Ms. Kelly was such a good album but they picked the wrong singles and did not promote the ones they did put out. im still mad that i’m still in love my ex wasn’t a single because it would have pushed more sales. i loved ghetto but not for a single. 50 was exactly right and with this new management u can tell she’s getting the vip treatment that she deserves.

  31. Pinky_G November 4, 2009

While i agree that Kelly is a very talented vocalist, i would not agree that she is AS talented as Beyonce! I mean, can u imagine Kelly performing ‘single ladies’ or anything even remotely similar? I think, vocally, performance-wise and just in general, Beyonce is the ‘better’ third of Destiny’s Child.

  32. Dom November 4, 2009

People are saying that they wuda rather michelle or kelly lead a track n beyonce back it up… Err if u want that, buy michelle or kellys album. Beyonce is the LEAD. Deal with it.

Chelle n kelly are no longer in destinys child. They can sing lead, but guess what No one cares!

Point blank, beyonce is a STAR, kelly is a singer. Theres a difference.

Kelly will NEVER be on beyonce level. Some people need to recognize that and deal with it. Kelly is just another black girl with a good voice.

The only place where kelly can surpass the queen, is to create an acting career…

  33. Dom November 4, 2009

And im sorry, but in those dc clips, beyonce is outshining them other 2 dreamgirl backups, lol.

And wen kelly is solo in them clips, she aint gt the all important STAGE PRESENCE

  34. lyric_lee November 4, 2009

well let me just start off by saying that i totally agree with sam and his view point – if kelly’s parents was the backing force behind the group then of course kelly would be the main focus – kelly is just as marketable as beyonce is and while their voices are similar kelly has different strengths than beyonce – the only difference is that beyonce can do more tricks or have been taught more tricks on how to use her voice and likes to show it off – if u tell kelly to belt she could pull off those some of those same feats. as far as marketability kelly is very diverse in her genre of music from punk rock to pop to rnb to dance to house and eveything inbetween just like B. look at simply deep and ms kelly – two totally different genres 1 artist who is able to pull it off effortlessly but yet with only a european tour with 17 shows (to beyonce’s 1st european show with 9 shows yet shes the one to get hers recorded on dvd) and a few festivals here and there it was evident where all the attention was going – during the live gospel medleys you could tell that kelly was trying to really shine dominating the songs with her raw voice – check out a few of the gospel medleys if u dont beleive me. kelly was grateful to the knowles for thier support and once she realized that only she is in control of her career she cut all ties – and now look where she is – number 1 sonG in ten countries with no label YET THIS IS THE MOST PROMO I HAVE EVER SEEN HER DO FOR ONE SONG – what the hell is WRONG WITH THAT PICTURE. i can honestly say now that after WORK you could really see wa change in her swag and confiedence and u can tell she was hungry for more – her stage prescence has definently been on blast and i can honestly say that i finally see her as the star that she is – live loop 2009 furthr proved my point that she definently can put on a show and with the right team concept BUDGET AND PROMO she will shut it down – first it was the aol sessions where she gave us a little glimpse then the t4 on the beach and the the avo sessions and now live loop – as i look as these clips im just shocked that thisis the woman that has beeen in the background for so long – its like it doenst seem right and im glad finally that kelly gets the fact that she gotta make moves on her own and that she ant just sit around and wait for someonce to cut her a break – all in all kelly is just as DIVERSE AS BEYONCE and vocally she can definently hold her own and can sing rings around many of these so call singers today – SHE NEEDS AN A TEAM BEHIND HER just like beyonce – she needs to tour get her endorsements and it the silver screen – i can see her having a hit show on either lifetime or tnt or something but enough of the rambling KELLY IS JUST AS TALENTED AS BEYONCE and deserves proper recognition – SHE WILLLLLL GET IT!!!!

  35. anonymouss November 4, 2009

omg sam, as a huge DC fan, i TOTALLY AGREE with you! each girl had the potential and should have been made huge celebs as big as beyonce…except that doofus matthew had to short change them like that cuz of all his selfishness. -____-

personally, tho, i believe one thing that is in kelly’s way of being a huge superstar is that unlike Beyonce she is not really commercially pretty. So that means for Kelly she gotta hit twice as hard as bee to get popular in this country. Ya’ll kno how hard it is for a black girl to get sum recognition in this business…sad but true :/

  36. loso November 4, 2009

Omggggg are you people serious Kelly has the voice of an angel, the swagger that many of ya’ll wish ya’ll had. Yeah you people in America have not seen the superstar in Ms. Kelly, but every other country has seen the Mega Superstar in Kelly. She has it all voice, talent, stage presence, beauty, and style. I am so glad she is away from Matthew and Beyonce Knowles because they were just holding her back. You should have posted some of Kelly’s recent performances this girl has had more promotion since she left Matthew then she had her entire solo career with him. You can see everytime Kelly hits the stage now she is ready and hungry because she has something to prove to everyone including Matthew that she dont need him to be the star that she is going to be. Just wait people for this next album Kelly is going to take the world by storm and there is nothin you Beyonce stans will be able to do about. She will not fail because you can see it in her eyes she will not accept failure as in option now. You people who say she cant sing as good as Beyonce go look up Kelly singing When Love Takes Over acoustic and tell me she cant hang with Bee. Just like Fiddy said with the same amount of money and backing that Beyonce got she would be right up there with her. You know Matthew is only looking out for Fam because even Solange has been on Oprah by herself, for what lmao she aint even close to the worldwide superstar that Kelly is.

  37. dyn-dyn November 4, 2009

I love the Bey like no other (not quite a stan, but close enough LOL) but let’s be real, Kelly DOES have a great voice but not the confidence or swagger. Yeah, some people are just born with it, but who knows…if kelly had been force-fed the same ‘you are a star’ breakfast cereal as the Bey when they were kids, she might be sweating out her tracks with a bedazzled glove and unitard at the MTV VMAs today. SMH, I really hope kelly gets her shine some day. Bought her last album, didn’t love every track but it was a solid effort. She’s got a great voice and awesome look, lets just hope she comes harder next time (read: no snoop “ghetto” type songs).

sidebar: sam…you need to post the rotterdam concerts from the destiny fulfilled shows…”emotions” and the gospel medley in particular were two kelly-standouts!!

second sidebar: wonder how Beyonce is feeling about her “DC sister” now that kelly is kissing all over the same dude who’s dissing bey’s husband. then fifty goes and fuels the fire with these comments. lovely…permanent black list from “daddy knowles” much kel? LOL

  38. Roger November 4, 2009

    Everyone post #VideoPhone on Twitter!!

  39. SnijanaFleur November 4, 2009

Sam, don’t sit around here and tell me Bey and Kelly are one of the same, talent and otherwise. That they would react the same and would have equal success if they had identical promotional machines. They don’t fundamentally have the same talent. I’m not slighting Kelly nor Bey. Their talents are different. They’re also individuals; therefore, there is no guarantee they would perform the same way and harvest equal level of success.

You talk of the psychological programing of Bey in DC to succeed as if that’s the only reason she’s the frontwoman. From the formation of DC to her latest solo endeavor, Bey has IT. What seperates her from the rest. That’s why she is a frontwoman. I doubt the psychological programing of Bey is credited only to her position in DC. Bey, her parents, mentors also play a role. If DC was the positive psychological platform for Bey, what happen to the negative aspect? The large enough # of people who say you’re ONLY in this position because of your evil parents, your lighter skin tone, and European leaning features, not because you qualify. Wouldn’t that serve as an equalizer, the negative psychological programing of Bey? The reason she doesn’t crack, yet [lol], emphasizes the credit to herself and mentors. Similarly, Kelly’s negative psychological programing is not only due to her position in DC, if at all. kelly, her parents & mentors share the credit.

Bey and Kelly are talented singers, what draws me the most to Bey is her performing style. She almost always delivers. She’s confident in her choices, in the way she sings her records, her swagger in her music videos and on stage is ridiculous. Also, she interprets the emotions of the songs amazingly well. At times, I get goose bumps. I never get tired of watching her perfom. I always smile, clap, sing, and dance along. I’ve had strong dislike for some Bey singles, yet she completely sold them to me through her performances :-). Kelly’s records and performances are good. I’m still waiting for her WOW me. Her performances are more engaging than some artists with more commercial successes. On the other hand, some of these artists have more captivating singles than Kelly. Her lower level of success is not only because of low promotion like Bey’s success is not only credited to her big promotions. Bey’s promotinal machines don’t make her. The great reputation and great work ethic she continues to build within the industry cements her place in this entertainment business.

  40. Me November 5, 2009

    Because she didn’t deserve it.

  41. Me November 5, 2009

Kelly is not as talented as Beyonce. Kelly is ALWAYS sounding a mess solo and Beyonce sounds BETTER solo.

  42. Lebo(CaribbeanBoi) November 5, 2009

Love me some Ms.Kelly, Kelly is gonna make her mar on her comeback ..

  43. Jay2009 November 5, 2009

I love Bee & Kelly & DC, but boy you can’t say that Rowland is as talented as Knowles is, that ain’t true and we ALL know it. Kelly doesn’t have the “it” factor, but the promo that she had with that annoying song featuring David Guetta I’m sure her next album will do good.

  44. Sade November 5, 2009

Haters, Get Familiar. Kelly is extremely talented. I don’t understand how this is a debate. If you don’t like her music or whatever she does as an artist and an entertainer, get off this site because Sam reps for Kelly hard and he has all the reason to. There is no comparison when it comes to talent or looks because Kelly has them both and is extremely graceful. Haters, Get Familiar.

  45. dillpickle November 5, 2009

Point of the matter is Kelly is just as talented as Beyonce. And whoever said Beyonce writes her songs, that is a lie because the girl could barely do a decent intrerview. Beyonce sounds slightly retarded. And, her voice is not special either. In my opinion, I perfer Kelly’s, it is much clearer and she doesn’t yodel and she has emotion in her voice. And. Beyonce’s voice is not diverse either. When she came out with that “If I were a boy” song, I was like, “Now, who white person song she stole this from”! What it all boils down to is marketing ,promotion and politics ,like 50 said( even though I can’t stand his b***). The more exposed you are to the general public, the more the consumers are willing to buy your album or whatever your company is promoting. And, don’t let me even get started on the politics in the music industry.

  46. fiercerMC November 5, 2009

I love them all.. Michelle & Kelly are both beautiful & talented… They can sing & move the way Beyonce does but they are just not as lucky .

  47. danny November 5, 2009

LOL, y’all are on some kelly crack.
She is NOWHERE near as talented as B.

If Kelly was good enough she wud have made it by now. not everyone is ment to be a STAR.

Her vocals are always so inconsistent (SEE: any When Love Takes Over Live performances)

  48. Kelly girl November 5, 2009

All y’all needs to shut the f*** up Kelly is no being treated right cause one if I was b dad I would let know one get a head of my daughter and to Kelly is talent very better the riahanna Kelly sings she don’t that’s the point everyone is missing and Kelly dances better then beyonce Kelly is more natral with her danceing let the girl have her shine it enough room for 2 bad b****** in the game damn

  49. loso November 5, 2009

Everyone who is saying Kelly does not have it, I hope you guys keep feeling that way because all Kelly has to do is conquer the US now because she has the rest of the world on her side and this next album is going to do it. And whoever said When Love Takes Over is annoying that is your opinion but lets be real Kelly’s voice in that song is flawless and amazing people around the world will be playing that song for a long time because the vocals were timeless. Just watch 50 knows and I know Kelly aint the shy little girl in DC anymore she has found her independence and now its on. Beyonce stans dont hate just congratulate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I do agree with SnijanaFleur completely!
however, despite kelly not being as talented as bee, there are many more odds stacked against her. A lighter skinned girl, with a more confident upbringing, with the same amount of talent as Kelly would be far more successful in this business.

Remember En Vogue? they were a band made up of four lead singers who could each stand out on their own. Beyonce was in a group where her bandmates werent nearly as talented or pretty as she was. And then, on top of all that, she is the one getting the ALL the promotion, while the other two are thrown in the dust. Yes, its not fair, but i guess thats what happens when ur daddy designs the group entirely around you, in order to garuantee ur success.

I do believe that Matt. Knowles was looking out for the best interest of his daugthers first and foremost, I also believe that based on the accusations made by ex-DC band memebers as well as statements made by Tina Knowles regarding the tanning salon incidents, that Tina and Matt Knowles would step on anyone and anything to promote and make Beyonce a superstar. Now, I must also cite this: Beyonce is beautiful, she has a good voice, but more so than not, she gives great live performances. I believe Beyonce works really hard, and she doesn’t take her fame, money and career for granted. With all this being said, all the money in the world, all the scaming in the world couldn’t have excelled Beyonce to level of stardom she has obtained. I truly believe it was a combination of things being her good looks, talent, stage pres. marketing, never giving up, influences from Jay-Z and just being at the right place in history at the right time. There is this unspoken rule in Hollywood that there can only be ONE famous African American woman at one time…if you look down through history, it has always been this way as it relates to black women…you had Halle Berry, Dorothy Dandridge, Lena Horne, Diana Ross….there has never been more than one reigning black female superstar at one time. Now, when it comes to white women, you will always see a host of them–talented or not. Jessica Simpson and her younger sister Ashley aren’t the least bit talented, yet they have graced the covers of magazines, billboards and etc. You also have Miley Cyrus aka Hanna Montana, and just a host of other white female celebs…so why can’t there be more than one black female superstar? Don’t blame Beyonce, or her family, blame the racist media. It took Beyonce years…I mean years for her to get where she is…I also recall when DC had been granted the title if being the best female group of all time, I did not see them gracing the covers of magazines….there was not mention of their accomplishment. It wasn’t until Beyonce went solo that her career went beyond the stars. I also believe that had Aaliyah lived, Beyonce probably would not be where she is as far as superstardom is concerned. Simply put, although I do believe Kelly has talent and should be further along in her career than she is, all the marketing in the world by Matt or Tina Knowles may have not pushed her to superstardom simply based on the racist bounderies that have been put into place. Yes it was wrong what Matt and Tina Knowles did and in the end they will “reap what they have sowed” but in the meantime, I think Kelly should just move on with her life and career and pray to God that something good can come out of this situation. Even with all the fame and money Beyonce has….I don’t think it’s easy for her. She doesn’t have the luxury of slacking or taking time off like her white female counterparts for if she does, you can rest assure she will be called unto scrutiny. Besides all that fame and money comes with a price. I think Beyonce should get as much as she can….milk the “cow” dry if she can because, one day the media will focus it’s attention on someone younger, someone beautiful, one the media just might lose interest in her.

I swear… Some people are just fools…. Yess.. Beyonce is an amazing singer and she’s undeniably talented and she’s one of the best vocalist out now… NO ONE, AND I MEAN NO ONE CAN SAY, that Kelly Rowland, isn’t as talented as beyonce.. It’s crazy, because i use to be an beyonce stan.. But as the years progressed, i came to realize that Kelly Rowland, actually has the best voice of destiny child.. then follows beyonce and then michelle and then letoya.. Kelly Rowland has a voice, that will just embrace your soul.. Honestly.. I must say, that her Tone alone, has made her one of the best vocalist in today’s history.. Yeah she may not be as popular as beyonce AS OF RIGHT NOW, but i promise you, since she’s left Matthew Knowles management, she will show the world, that she’s a force to be reckoned with.. Kelly Rowland, is one of the few artist today, that i can listen to over and over and just never get tired of listening to ….. TRUTH IS that yeah Beyonce can sing, But With the right training for her voice., like she’s getting now on her new album. She will blow beyonce out of the water…ALL BEYONCE HAVE IS A RATTLE NOW.. Yeah her voice control is amazing and her stage presence is also, But u gotta look through everything and i Guarantee, you all will realize that there would Be no DESTINYS CHILD without Kelly Rowland.. She brought so much to the group and she held her own very good…. Beyonce isn’t dumb, thats why everytime, kelly wanted to come out with an album, or song, Beyonce would always come out with something at the same time, because she know If kelly really show the world what she’s made of. she will not be considered one of the best vocalist of all time anymore, she would easily be replaced by Kelly Rowland….if u don’t think so look at DESTINY CHILD’S TOUR AND LOOK AT THEM DO FREE… it tells u, kelly will eat beyonce for lunch and dinner… But to all my kelly fans. i love ya’ll and we gon keep lettin the world know that Kelly Rowland is the talent of Destinys Child and its sad that she’s never gotten her chance to shine.. But when she do, I’ma say i told ya’ll so

I agree 100% Beyoncé has amazing talent, but she was surrounded by her family in Destiny’s Child, she was always in the middle of the three. She did get all the shine. When I hear comparisons between Beyoncé’s and Kelly’s stage presence, I really put it down to expectations. If you’re groomed to lead, you will hold yourself to the highest standards. If you’re groomed to follow, and told it’s okay to fail, it’s okay you can’t sing that Beyoncé can do it for you, especially when you’re so young and timid already, then why not gently console yourself and fall back on the ‘chosen one’ so to speak; especially when the chosen one is someone you love like a sister. These attitudes and feelings don’t go away over night, childhood and adolescence aren’t called your formative years for nothing. The kind of conditioning these girls were exposed to so young is hard to break. Kelly deserves to be acknowledged as an amazing natural talent, a talent that has not received the same nurturing, and challenges. In spite of this Beyoncé should never be criticised for blossoming into the fierce, amazingly talented phenom that she is. One can never make anyone better by tearing down someone else; it just depends on where the responsibility lies.

I think Kelly should work with R Kelly or Timbaland or Jazmine Sullivan to collaborate because she has a great talent and a very distinctive voice but her production lack luster a lot. I love that she is willing to try different styles of music.
