New Song: Rihanna – ‘Cold Case Love’

Fashion favourite Rihanna has been hard at work promoting her forthcoming album, ‘Rated R’. Emerging from that project is ‘Cold Case Love’, which was written and produced by Justin Timberlake’s The Y’s. ‘Rated R’ hits stores on November 23rd.

The production on this track is no joke. The beat compliments the drifting melodies quite well and the inclusion of the instrumentals was genius. Those elements combined with the revealing lyrics, provide an interesting cocktail for what could become a major success. In contrast, as per usual, Rihanna’s vocal performance was far from impressive. Although she managed to portray the pain behind the lyrics, she also injected pain into my ears. Where have all the real singers gone?

Hit or Miss?

I stopped listening after the first 10 seconds no lie. Rihanna’s music just does not interest me anymore. There is nothing to look forward to with her. Just the same old naselly sound in one octave. I need something new i need fresh air. Her music so far on this album just sounds the same

Sam – C’mon son, Rihanna did not sound bad on this song. I think that some people hold her to a different standard because of her record sales, but with the exception of Mariah Carey and Whitney Houston, the other artists that run the billboards are not sangers!!! So we shouldn’t act like her counterparts are great singers, because not to cause the stans to riot, the letter that comes after A is not a great singer either. If I’m lying, just compare her vocals to than of Jennifer Hudson, on the same stage – not comparable!

On a different note, I really dig this song! It has substance, and I do believe that Rihanna carried the song well. I really getting a little tired of these darks songs, with hidden meanings, but I actually liked this song.

Lastly, regarding the real singers…the do not get attention. So Sam, I challenge you to make more posts about your Melanie Fiona’s, Letoya Luckett’s, Marsha Ambrosius’s of the world…because without support, we will never hear about them.

l like it. i love how the beat builds. i think that she’s starting to finding her own styile in music, defining herself . i love it.

You guys need to read who post what. There is Sam and Trent. This was posted by Trent not Sam. You get it. Anyway, her vocals are horrible. She needs to do us all a favor and become a model.

    @ incognegro

it wasnt sam…. sam was busy defending chris browns woman beatin ass….
i suppose people should of ignored the whole ike/ tina situation to…
    asshole

but this was Trent, sams ball pollisher, who consistently tries to follow in sams footprints on the “i H8 Rihanna” front. yet thats all you see on this damn blog post after post.. with bash after bash,it gets tired if they posted about her.. and just didnt like her.. it would be fine.. but all they do is dig.. being hypocritical as hell. they think she isnt anything to scream about.. but by posting her stuff, they clearly are admitting she is the hotness..
so they shoul suck it up, and admit the girl is doing her damn thing.

    THIS SONG = FIRE

NOT A BAD VOCAL PERFORMANCE AT ALL..

I’m sorry after the first 5 or 6 seconds of the song I just couldn’t take it anymore. For those that love it more power to you. How can I put it, we know she can’t sing she still sounds like something is in her nasal, throat so I won’t go there, but everything I’ve heard sucks and that’s real talk. I’m not going to sugar coat anything, she will sale but not from the good quailty of the ablum but from her pity of the Chris Brow situation. I just can’t see how her label is letting her put out crap like this. Billy goats sounds better than this. You know Jay-z hype her up so much when she peform with him the other night, but she still is lip singing from the tracks.

Can someone tell me why this song is 6 minutes long? Although the production is good (not great), there isn’t much to this song. The lyrics are repetitive, and barely reveal anything. Her voice just does not do it. LOL @ Nanz who said she sings in one octave! As much as i would love for Rihanna to do well, i cannot support this “music” she’s putting out. I’ll keep my fingers crossed and hope she puts out something that shuts everyone up, including me!

My apologies Sam – reading is fundamental, and I just assumed since you are so hands-on with this site, that it was your post. My mistake and my apologies.

@ Kirk, irregardless of who posted the comment, my opinion remains the same. You get it.

Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion, but check the history books. Diana Ross, Madonna, Britney Spears – none of these acts are world-class singers. They are wonderful artists and entertainers in their own right, but they do not have strong voices, which is part of the appeal. Rihanna may sound bad to some, but I beg to differ. I would not consider a world-class singer, but the girl sings a lot better than me and many of the people who give her a hard time.

But I appreciate good music, real talent, and pop-music doesn’t quite qualify. So back to Sam’s question, if you’re looking fo real talent, and real singers, the billboard top 100 is not the place to look. Other talent is, because good talent travels together. So where you see Jill Scott, Chrisette Michelle is not far behind; where is you find India Arie you find Musiq Soulchild; where you find The Roots you find Melanie Fiona. You just have to know where to look….

  9. KingMo November 12, 2009

Trent ur completely correct. lol…My ears were bleeding also…I like the message of the song and the production etc, but her voice doesnt compliment the song.

I dunno, but somehow, every single time I hear a Rihanna song, I can always envision someone else with a better voice singing her songs and making them sound much better…just a thought.

I was a fan of Rihanna before the Fame became just a little to much for her to bare. What happened to HER style of music. This new material that she does just is not her. Pon Da Replay… If it’s loving that you want…. What happened to that. Overall I listened for a good 2 minutes to this song. After listening… I’m speechless…That’s not good or bad… Just blank on this one.

  11. Deedee November 12, 2009

This song does not sound bad, it’s not great, but 9/10 Rihanna posts are so negative – why?

  12. ChadwickDurham November 12, 2009

@ INCOGNEGRO- U HAVE GOT TO BE F****** KIDDING ME TO SAY THAT BEYONCE IS NOT A GREAT SINGER! I U MAY NOT LIKE BEYONCE AND ALL OF HER WELL DESERVED FAME, BUT PLEASE DONT TAKE AWAY FROM HER VOCAL ABILITY! BEYONCE IS ONE OF THE BEST VOCALIST OUT AT THE TIME AND U URSELF KNOWS THAT! AND PLEASE STOP COMPARING BEYONCE TO THE LIKES OF J-HUD WHO WE ALL KNOW HAS NO CONTROL OVER HER OVERPOWERFUL AND OVERBEARING VOICE!

    THE, END

  13. ChadwickDurham November 12, 2009

BUT TO COMMENT ON THE SONG, I ACTUALLY LOVED IT! THIS AND HARD ARE THE BEST SONGS FROM THIS NEW ALBUM!

  16. Andrew November 12, 2009

    7/10
Best song I’ve heard from her upcoming album.
That’s not saying much though, since I can’t stand any of the other songs.

    Good luck Rihanna

  17. Andrew November 12, 2009

I commented before the song got good. Hahahhaa
    This is brilliant 9.5/10
If the rest of the album is even better I’ll defiantly be checking this out

  18. Anon November 12, 2009

I’m surprised so many of you seem to hate it, or complain that it is too long or that her vocals are bad. I think this song sounds really incredible. The production is top notch, her vocals are actually pretty good, and definitely convey the song well.

  19. Anon November 12, 2009

p.s. meant to add that this is an amazing album closer. She shouldn’t have “the last song,” this should be the last song.

  20. Chile November 12, 2009

This is actually a pretty good song. Why does anybody get riled up when Sam and Emily make negative comments about Rihanna? Its part of their new approach. They still cant do it as good as the American blogs. lol

They can hate on Rihanna as much as they want…but she helps get the bills paid. Instant karma.

  21. H-Town November 13, 2009

The production on this song is excellent!
I don’t know if its just the lyrirics or the fact she doesn’t do the song much justice…

  22. B November 13, 2009

I think my favorite songs from her will always be from Pon De Replay….A Million Miles Away is an amazing song!
