Well, Rihanna seems to be doing something right. She has at least 10 posts on this site in the last two days, more than any other artist. More than beloved Whitney has had in months. Rihanna gets a post here if she farts, its seems. So why share it if you think it sucks? No one is even comparing her to Beyonce or vice versa. It’s like comparing Madonna to Mariah. What’s the point? The have totally different profiles in the industry.
(As I recall, Sam had hated every Beyonce video except Single Ladies. Calling all of them Recession Era – so I am even further confused by the comparison.)
Anyhow, the video is amazing – most of all, it certainly isn’t cookie cutter. It follows a look and style that is different. If a GENERIC video like CHRIS BROWN’s or 50 CENT’s gets you going – then be generic and enjoy them. They are made for generic tastes, with no risks because the songs are limp on the charts. When you have the power, you make something different.
If you prefer something DIFFERENT, new, not cookie-cutter crap, then maybe you’ll like to see this video. To call something recession that’s clearly about image is ignorant.

The vid is garbage and the song is very underwhelming. However, to answer your question, Sam, the hype around Rihanna is her looks (which u have mentioned already) and her great songs. The music industry is about looks and sound. She has both.
Also, her music sounds amazing in clubs. Nightlife plays a big part in a pop artists longevity and relevancy. If you go to a club and the song agrees with the crowd, you buy into it. All of this is very simple math, Sam. I am not sure why you are masking your hate with a trick question. At least I hope its a trick question. You should have already known that answer.
