Alicia Keys Performs On Today Show

Published: Thursday 17th Dec 2009 by Sam

Continuing along the promotional trail for her new LP ‘The Element of Freedom’, Alicia Keys appeared on The Today Show this morning to perform her solo rendition of ‘Empire State of Mind’. Ever-consistent, Ms. Keys turned in yet another stellar performance – one which further solidifies my like for her solo version of the song over the Jay-Z collabo – though I seem to be somewhat alone in that sentiment (??)

What do you think of the performance?

I enjoyed her performance this morning. She brings it every time. I also love her version of ESOM over the original.

I agree, her version is better than the one with Jay-Z. ESOM is my fave off her album.

p.s. I’d rather hear Stephen Colberts rap over Jay-Z’s. Did you see her performance on his show? Hilarious!

HER VOICE IS GOING. HEAR THE STRAIN AND CRACKING. SAD, WHEN SHE’S LIKE 32. SHE WAS NEVER A TRUE VOCALIST. BETTER SONGWRITER AND PRODUCER. SHE SHOULD STICK TO THAT AND LEAVE THE SINGING TO OTHERS. JUST SAYIN.

I really like everything about this song except how she incorporated the chorus with the piano.
    It doesn’t flow nicely

I’ve supported Alicia Keys past albums but this is Mistress Alicia BEATZ! She portrays an image of principles and family values yet she is dating a married man. Don’t believe me? follow the wife on twitter.

I agree with ‘THE TRUTH’ on Alicia’s voice. Her vocal ability is often overrated. The youthful sound of her voice when she first came out gave her a better tone. Now her vocal limitations are becoming more obvious as she and her voice ages. She’s a decent writer, although some of her lyrics fall short of an attempt at depth and instead come across as too simplistic like in “Superwoman” or include repetitive themes like in “If I Ain’t Got You” & the self-copied “Doesn’t Mean Anything.” Still, overall she’s a good musician and artist.
