Alicia Keys Predicted To Sell 330-350k

Although she has made a string of high profile appearances over the last few weeks, R&B singer Alicia Keys’ new album, ‘The Element of Freedom‘, is projected to sell 330, 000 to 350, 000 units in its first week. The figures were tallied by HitsDailyDouble based on the first day sales of the LP. This represents a significant drop in sales from the 742, 000 units that Key’s last project, ‘As I Am’, sold in it’s debut week.

Granted that many would attribute these figures to a tumultuous economy and a struggling record industry, it is clear that higher numbers were expected from this album. In addition to performing on almost every major television junket, Keys released the album in the fruitful Christmas season; the time of year when sales are more substantial than any other period as a ramification of the annual shopping frenzy.

In fact, with Susan Boyle selling over 500, 000 copies of her LP ‘I Dreamed A Dream’ for the past 3 weeks (a first for any female act since 1990), many projected that ‘The Element of Freedom’ would have at least broken the 500, 000 mark. It seems that nothing is guaranteed in this current industry, no matter how much promotion or popularity that the artist commands. Nonetheless, Keys has nothing to be ashamed about, as these numbers are significantly higher than those of many of her counterparts.

Lol I predicted 150,000 — Pretty solid! Alicia’s smart, she always releases her album towards the end of the year cause she knows that’s when people by albums the most lol.

Grant it it is a DROP non the less GREAT numbers……

Most people can’t even pull these numbers Being everywhere *cough cough* Rihanna and on top of that she had major media because of the incident……

I love Alicia Keys and I am proud and Happy to see her still stay a float ! ! ! ! !

  3. stan December 16, 2009

i hoped she’d debut with 500k+… but again, she hasn’t had a “hit” yet with this album. yes there’s “empire state of mind”, but that’s technically jay-z’s song (and the one on her album is a different version).

thats beast considering that n this economy, one pushback can ruin ur album’s sales completely. Considering Doesn’t Mean Anything stalled at 60 and TSWABH stalled at 41. U GO G!RL…

  5. Lawayne December 16, 2009

  9. jeffrey December 16, 2009

@Stoney Brie, please this is just one album that mariah has had low sales with
But Mariah either way has sold wayyyy more than Alicia,

Anyways these are real good numbers, IDk why they are making it seem like is a flop or dissapointment , This album is amazing and people should go out and Buy it.

“Anyways these are real good numbers, IDk why they are making it seem like is a flop or dissapointment ”

Exactly! Whoever expected 500,000 is a moron. Her first single flopped, and the second isn’t in full gear yet. Why expect high numbers after that? These are solid numbers! Of course she wasn’t going to sell 500,000+ forever. What goes up must come down.

  11. HaYYYYYY December 16, 2009

those r fukin good ass numbers

  12. dont take shyt December 16, 2009

This is the FIRST AKeys album that I’m not buying
Her singles didnt do anything for me
and the fact that she put Beyonce’s OVERRATED ass on a track
    didnt help either

  13. Rihanna Flop December 16, 2009

i bet Rihanna Flop wishes she could have pushed those numbers first week out LOL

  14. hellno December 16, 2009

she did flop…susan boyle is taking over. alicia is a mediocre singer.

  15. rightround(U.S.A pride!) December 16, 2009

with the whole “homewrecking” situation(maybe U.K. folks don’t know about that), I thought she would flop!

300K is great considering she hasn’t had a hit single from the album. i might actually cop the album!

  16. S*** December 16, 2009

I think her music overall is just O.K, She has some nice songz but most are just too Mellow & Soulful to the point were the delivery of all her songs(especially as of late) sound all the same. Shes Worthy but still Mediocre to me & she used Queen Bey on the song Put it in a love song cause she knows it’ll draw more attention & its her best chance for another hit.

  17. S.P December 16, 2009

every album at this site is reported a flop, no matter what the numbe r, somebody delete thiz site

  18. Fatima December 16, 2009

“but most are just too Mellow & Soulful”

SMH. too soulful. What is wrong with people these days?

  19. Fatima December 16, 2009

First, this website puts wayyyy too much importance on sales. It also equates quality with high numbers too. Most morons even know that’s not true.

Secondly, no one is dumb enough to view these numbers as bad, especially these days.

Finally, if you were to listen to this site, there isn’t a single popular artist in the world these days. Except Susan Boyle. According to TGJ, EVERY ONE is a flop.

  20. PRETTYBOI December 17, 2009

I WISH THIS SITE WOULD JUST POST THE NEWS RATHER THAN COMMENTARY FROM THE AUTHORS CUZ ITZ REALLY NOT NEEDED (ESPECIALLY WHEN THE AUTHOR(S) ARE BIASED DICKHEADS THAT ACT LIKE THEY KNOW EVERYTHING)

  21. wtf December 17, 2009

her cover makes me want to buy the album but am not feeling her to be honest…her songs all sound the same that one with bey was just a no no….

300k is not bad but i hear what trent is saying…she should be pulling in the 400-500k range..she is alicia keys but anyways its still good!!

  22. FUSION December 17, 2009

Look, I’m a major Mariah fan and also like Alicia, but not as much, but how you can say its a disappointment, when in 1 week it is going to sell more records than Mariah has in 2 months!!!!!! That’s a crazy suggestion. more to the point, when you have susan boyle taking up a vast percentage of sales these last few weeks, they are excellent numbers. Well done Alicia. Honestly, this site is getting too negative for me. All it seems to be doing is making people look bad or sound like they are flops, when that aint the case. There’s not much on this site in the way of celebration of an artist. Don’t get me wrong, i’m cool with criticism, but only when its constructive.

  23. Jasmine December 17, 2009

She is letting everyone know that you have to have a hit single out before releasing an album. That is why so many artists keep pushing back their albums.

  24. Rob December 17, 2009

The reason why her sales are down is because she’s a homewrecking harlot and lost many of her fanbase no matter how good the music is. CLOSE YOUR LEGS TO MARRIED MEN!

    • Dimples07 July 30, 2012

OMG!!! Just kill yourself, If they wanted to work out they still would be together right now!!!

  25. December 17, 2009

    @Rob:

    who even says harlot anymore?
    how old are you, 60?

  26. Rob December 17, 2009

LOL no Im actually 23, but just have an affinity for throwback words

  27. Joe December 17, 2009

Even if she does sell that much first week thats good….Whitney only sold 300k first week and nobody considered her flopping….so alicia selling more than whitney first week is good with me….after 3 or 4 weeks out it will be the RIAA will ceritify this album gold….

  28. Kenney December 27, 2009

i bet beyonce must be shittin her pants now that Susan Boyle’s got her beat down!

  29. AKA harlot February 4, 2010

AK is a harlot! and karma is a b****. imagine being being beat by susan boyle, who must use the word harlot!! LOL

  30. Dimples07 July 30, 2012

I love Alicia Keys she still will shine no matter what the haters say!! And it wasnt a flop and she smart enough to wait till the end of the year to release the album as well. The album was real nice and I loved it. She wrote most of the songs on it anyway, cant say that about most of these celebs. Alicia will continue to get great album sales no matter what she does!! Nevertheless cant wait for the NEW album the drop. UGH!! She needs to speed that process up. LOL!
