Our favourite Bajan model, Rihanna, performed a special Myspace-sponsored show (‘The Release’) yesterday, at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York. The free show was held in support of her new LP ‘Rated R’ . If only her show’s were half as interesting as the pics would have you believe. Sigh.

did not watch it but heard it was like the london one but a cheaper set..she did four songs, and some hooks..sounded terrible and just walked all over the stage..smh..nothing new there but how r u gonna promote an album if you are whack yourself??? only idiots buy into this gimmick….i am glad she is fading…
ps, LA Ried and Rihanna have a strange relationship in my eyes…first he pitches up at the glamour gala on her arm (yet her whole family was there) and now at this concert..i could go on about other events were they have been there together but will stop here…she sure looks comfortable with her arms around his shoulder..i have never seen him at an amerie, mariah concert or all hugged like that with any of them..you then wonder why some get the budget and some dnt!! jus saying!!

She sold 293,000 copies of her CD WW, #1 Susan Boyle sold 1,284,000 and Gaga came in #2 WW with over 300,000. Next week she is already out of the top 10 selling 50/60 tops so everyone is hatin? rihanna sounded good. Anywaz what do people expect from blogs. Blogs are known to be negative, and people in the real world don’t take them seriously.
Rihanna looks so nice in her customes. All of her body in place, nothing hanging out. She did her thing as well. Riri busted out a few moves and all. You all know if this girl wanted to put on a caribbean style whining on you all you won’t be able to handle it. Leave the girl alone. She wants clean classy performances, and she does that quite well.

The girl is entertaining in the same way a Sarah Palin vs Barack Obama debate on foreign policy would be. She is like a walking parody of a pop star lol. I don’t hate her, I find her hilarious to watch. She had one interview, and even said she don’t want to wear the label of a victim. You people are the ones who keep bringing up the victim word. She never claimed to be a victim. I saw that concert in which she made people wait 2 hours for how many songs? 6 altogether and she only really did about 5% actual singing cause her backup singers and backtracking did a lot and dont lie and say you could not hear the difference in the vocals.. It’s not about her accent she is just terrible live and now she has incorporated way to much sexual moves and all this cussing! She has lost her appeal to the ones that made her and it’s the young audience with this i’m hard act.
I was there.. the performance was awesome.. amazing..she gave me her glove.. she was cordial, interacted with the crowd.. looked great sounded great.. aside from the speaker mishap that occured which was affecting the mic & the music. Awesome Awesome show. point blank.. no reason to hate, this woman can entertain an audience. I mean and about record sales.. amerie can’t sell records.. but does that mean shes not talented?, same for solange, jazmine sullivan?

The only people who think that Rihanna is talented or has good stage presence are the ones that are intrigued by anything that glitters. This music industry really has people fooled. I think that many of you need to learn the definition of a blog and an opinion. So what if people don’t like an artist and express that…. they have every right too especially when something isn’t right. A blog is a place for us to type what we’re thinking in our head and share with others. Anyway, I always research singer’s performances before I judge them, and Rihanna fails all of the time. Her movements are stiff and boring, and her voice is flat and irritating.

Rihanna these days is basically carrying on as though she’s fronting Nine Inch Nails. And who can blame her. Navigate a truly chaotic, hey-quit-pushing scene outside the Hammerstein (a free show, you see, courtesy of MySpace) and you’re greeted by a stage set of creepy armless mannequins and arbitrary stacks of televisions: very Buzz Bin-era MTV. She emerges in a regal getup that, given my lack of fashion acumen, I am only able to describe in two words (silver, pantsless), a giant video screen proffering more visual creepiness behind her (more mannequins, for example, these ones with their heads on fire). And soon, as she’s leading a full aggro-goth band through smash pop-r&b sensation of yore “Umbrella,” surly power chords overpowering everything, this is what pops in my head.
In a brisk, workmanlike, whattya-want-it-was-a-free-show 40 minutes, this industrial diva guise works for and against her, and us. We are promoting a new album, of course, so she reclines on a slowly rotating throne for the chilling ballad “Russian Roulette,” and struts around braying “Where them bloggers at?” for the still quite badass I’m-a-badass anthem “Hard.” (No cameo from Jeezy, or anyone else, though she dutifully runs through the hooks of “Run This Town” and “Live Your Life” anyway.)
A little overzealous “Dirty Diana” guitar-shredding suits this sort of thing just fine. But a more frivolous, ostensibly lighthearted tune like “Don’t Stop the Music” is rendered stiff and leaden and joyless by all the growly macho riffage. The crowd is bummed out by the brief, encore-less state of affairs, but any longer and it would’ve felt like a dirge. I will feel better when this whole Ministry/Saw VI vibe eases up a little. I suspect she will, too.

The thing is… Sam doesn’t even bash Rihanna. He actually compliments her where compliments are due, but he just overall tells the truth. He admits it that she is beautiful and talented as a model which is true. I’ve even seen him compliment a couple of her performances. He also calls her out on the fact that she is in the business of being a singer/performer and is not very good at it, which is also true. Sam isn’t being negative for negativity’s sake, some of the commenters, maybe, but that’s out of Trent and Sam’s hands.
If you are a Rihanna fan and you take such great offense at Rihanna’s singing and performances being called into question, why get so emotional over it if you know it isn’t true? I read an article the other day about Michael Jackson being overrated because he can’t play an instrument and the songs he writes suck, and his Thriller success was due to Quincy Jones… My response was to laugh at how utterly ridiculous and untrue all of that is and move on with my life. The emotional personal attacks at Sam and commenters who do not like rihanna’s performances tell me that he is striking a nerve… you should ask yourself why that is. If the “haters” claims are completely unfounded, Rihanna’s career will continue to soar unscathed because her talent would speak for itself.
As for constantly posting about Rihanna, these posts get the most hits – bottom line. People are interested in her just like people were interested in Sarah Palin during the election. Some people love to make fun of her, and some people are die-hard fans for whom she could do no wrong and who take the “hate” as a sign that she’s so awesome. Either way it’s interest that Sam and Trent feed into.

@mac10 no one has a problem with you stating your opinion, the problem is you seem to be overstating your opinion, time and time again, saying the same thing. Yes we know you don’t like rihanna, but do we have to hear it over and over again. Why spend so much time on someone you supposedly hate. Don’t your favorite artist have a fan site where you can set up camp and give them support. But every post about rihanna, to be a hater, you are surely giving her a lot of time. How do you feel to be so negative on a daily? I don’t know about you, but when i carry negative emotions around, i feel off balanced, and to let some artist, who don’t even know you exist have such power over you that you’re on here going to bat against her daily is very surprising.
