The-Dream Upset After Finding No ‘Love’ In Grammys

R&B vocalist and go-to songwriter The-Dream was on a rampage last evening after not receiving a single Grammy nomination for his ‘Love vs. Money’ LP which was released earlier this year. The Executive Vice-President of Island Def Jam took to his official twitter page to vent his frustrations about being ignored by the Grammy Awards committee. Peep an excerpt from his tirade below:

Wow! I absolutely agree with his sentiments. ‘Love vs. Money’ stands as one of the best Contemporary R&B albums released this decade, in my honest opinion. With unique productions, dynamic vocals and incredible productions, there is certainly no reason why this record should not have been nominated in several of the major categories. His single ‘Walking On The Moon’ (featuring Kanye West) was a definite front-runner for ‘Best Rap/Sung Collaboration’ as was ‘My Love’ (featuring Mariah Carey) for ‘Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group’. The fact that Jamie Foxx and T-Pain’s auto-tuned ‘Blame It’ got favoured over the latter song is completely baffling. To compound the situation, many of the songs that The-Dream wrote himself were chosen in place of his own material (see Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’). Hot mess.

Sam’s 2 Pence: Can’t say I thought the album was Grammy worthy, Trent. (FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT lol)

Thoughts?

  3. Kimmy December 3, 2009

The Dream can’t sing, maybe that’s why he didn’t get any nods

Think about it folks, he does HORRIBLE rip offs of Prince music

  5. Dawon December 3, 2009

Did he actually think he was gonna be nominated for anything?????? LOL…He’s a good producer but not an artist. Come on now did his album even go GOLD?????? Be real The-Dream you as an artist is not hot!!!!!

  6. TC December 3, 2009

I agree with sam, Dream and Keri Hilson had the best R&B albums of the year and should be nominated. And Rockin’ That Thang is my ish, so I am pissed that it didnt get a nom!

  7. Ken December 3, 2009

Maybe he wakes up tomorrow and realises hey, it was all a DREAM – LMAO!!!

The Dream is a good producer and had a few catchy singles but he is a HORRIBLE singer and artist. I can understand his frustrations though he was everywhere this year and the Grammy committe did not recognize him at all. Better luck next year!

become a devil worshiper like b and her ugly camel then maybe u 2 can be up there, her music is crap bubble gum pop made for little girls and gay men. she is the most overated singer out there reminds me of jlo when she was overated overexposed. taylor swift is the best

“One of the best contemporary R&B albums of this decade”? Seriously? I hope that was a paid-for endorsement and not a real opinion. Jamie Foxx was allowed a pass for his song since he used the auto-tune for the effect. We know he can sing. The Dream? Doesn’t sound like he can at all.

Like others said, he’s catchy but that’s about it. By next Spring, nobody will even remember any of the songs from Love vs Money. His songs make no impact whatsoever. Besides, outside of his target fanbase, nobody knows who he is. You may not listen to Beyonce or you may even hate her, but you know who she is. That’s the difference.

Maybe the Grammy’s are tired of this synthesized mess calling it self black music. There’s no rhythm, blues or soul in most of what is out there. Whitney’s album doesn’t deserve nominations and for damn sure The-Dream’s doesn’t either. Sales doesn’t always equal quality. In this sense, the Grammy’s – which black folks should stop trippin about anyway – were correct.

one of the best albums of the decade………..NOT EVEN. Next……….

THE DREAM IS LAME. I LIKE HIS FIRST ALBUM, I THOUGHT IT WAS COOL UNTIL HIS SECOND ONE SOUNDED THE SAME AS THE FIRST. KERI HILSON ALBUM WAS COOL ALSO BUT I LIKED MORE OF HER SONGS THAT DIDN’T MAKE THE ALBUM THAN HER ACTUAL ALBUM.

The-Dream isn’t really what I would consider a Grammy worthy vocalist. So even if he did manage to get a nomination. I personally don’t think he should win! Yes some of his personally music is catchy and yes “Rockin’ That Thang” is a good song, but obviously there were better nominees. Seriously did he expect to have a song which is actually called “Rockin’ That S***” nominated for a Grammy. You better have a damn good song, musically if your going to think a song with a cuss word in its title is going to get nominated!

The-Dream needs to stick to writing songs and the production aspect becasue that is where he excels. And to Trent who said this album was one of the best of the year and or decade, WOW! Because I personally listened to the entire thing, and all of The-Dream’s same tone vocals throughout the entire album was not cutting it. Yes some songs are catchy but its not anything groundbreaking.

I never understood why female singers always get dissed for not having the biggest range (such as Ciara, Rihanna) but then people like The-Dream never get questioned or spoke about their no range selves!

The Dream’s cd was lame lol. Now the ppl that got snubbed that deserved it are the ones that should be throwing b**** fits.

  16. whatever December 3, 2009

i am not saying that his album should be nominated but if they have pleasure p, keri, tpain, jamie and all can be there so should he..IMO there is no difference between what those guys have put out with what the dream has…he is not the best stage performer but his music is not bad…

anyways how does bey get 10 nods??? yeah people, i am sasha fierce was not even that great imo compared to her other albums..she deserves some but not 10…

  17. tuckpoo December 3, 2009

Im so glad i m not the only one i though i was the only one who thought , yes Dream good producer but artist not so much…

  18. December 3, 2009

He should just be thankful that he got as many nominations as he did for his work with other artists. I’m sure other people would kill for those and he seems really ungrateful. You’re not at superstar level where you can get about 10 nominations, so fall back.

  19. j. December 3, 2009

    The-Dream needs to STFU.

His first album actually won a Grammy back in 2008, but he wasn’t even there to accept the award. Huh?! How are you gonna be a new artist, have your debut album nominated for a GRAMMY, and then NOT show up?

Besides, he has Grammy Awards under producing credits from various other artists. He needs to be happy with those accolades, b/c as an artist alone…yikes. I loved his first album b/c not only was it catchy, but I felt it was ushering in a new style. That all went down-hill w/the second album. All of his s*** sound’s like some reoccurring ‘Purple Rain’ wet dream. He’s not innovative enough to be a Grammy-Award nominated artist…anymore, at least.

  20. j. December 3, 2009

    …correction of my previous statement:

The-Dream won the Best New Award @ the 2008 BET Awards…not the Grammy’s. Either way, he STILL wasn’t in attendance to receive his first award as a solo artist.

  21. Alex December 3, 2009

This was a great CD. It shouldve gotten nominated in the R&B category

  22. AWOLLUVA December 3, 2009

The spelling and grammar IS horrifying, isn’t it. I mean, I know it’s the internet, but s***. Lol!

@HIHIHIHIHI, FOR ONCE I agree with you one something! Trent, you got some nerve putting “The Dream” and “Dynamic Vocals” in the same sentence, lol! He’s right down there with Rihanna and Ciara on the vocal ability tip (or lackthereof), so please let’s not be delusional. He CAN hit some high notes for a male singer (e.g. that high “C” he hit on Falsetto), but ain’t nothing special about his vocals otherwise. Like somebody else said, his voice is paper thin and sounds quite under-matured at times.

Anywhoo…I’m not surprised at all he’s not nominated. In fact, I’d probably be surprised if he WAS nominated. He’s a producer FIRST, and an artist SECOND, as far as I’m concerned, and should therefore play his cards accordingly.

  23. Aries_Blu December 3, 2009

It’s a little upsetting that some people will get ten nominations for something, although big, was not worthy of ten, while a lot of talent (like Chrisette Michele) were snubbed out. My question is, how can the same song be considered in the categories of R&B and pop?

  24. DanniB December 4, 2009

to say its the best album of this decade isn’t really saying much if we’re going by radio hits. for him to say he changed the sound into what it is only merits him being locked up, much less locked out of the grammy’s. its a travesty.

and nothing he’s ever done sounds any different than anything else I’ve heard. maybe thats a sign he should stick to writing in the background.

  25. Bobby D December 5, 2009

The Dream is a musical genius. He writes and demo’s amazing songs.

Bottom line everyone needs to realize, the Grammy awards are b*******. A sham. Irrelivant when it comes to awarding true talent, and music that people actually listen to.

Boycott the Grammys. I know I sure as s*** aint watchin that garbage. Instead I will spend that night listening to music people actually give a s*** about.

    F*** THE GRAMMYS
