A husky-voiced Kelly Rowland hit stage at the PokerStars VIP Party at Paradise Harbour in Nassau, The Bahamas over the weekend. The singer performed her international hit ‘When Love Takes Over’. Rowland is currently working on her forthcoming studio album which hits stores later this year.
Clearly Rowland’s voice has seen much better days. It’s safe to say that her hard work in the studio is undoubtedly the reason for her vocal issues at the event. However, although she struggled through the verses, she handled the belting in the chorus quite well and engaged the crowd like a pro.
Sidebar: Is Rowland looking more muscular or is it just me? Looks like somebody’s been working on improving her game both musically and physically. I ain’t mad at you Kelly!

Stop making excuses for her! Kelly’s vocals have never been consistently strong. You say she’s improved lately but I can’t tell by this performance. I think she’s better off in a group where she doesn’t have to perform the whole song by herself. This performance was not all that, just as I expected.
I’ve never seen her deliver consistently good live performances. I agree with one of the other posts about making excuses for her, last time it was the equipment right? Anyway, I do hope she has success with her new album.
think she has finally figured out how to give it her all without over doin it and straining – the attitude was def there the vocals were on and she gave just enuff energy to get the job done – i so love her – the crowd sucked but looking at the audience – middled aged parents lol i really didnt expect them to go crazy – ms kelly is here nd i ready – i am too – WORK MS KELLY!!!!

ps kelly isnt making excuses for herself so dont blame her for it – she is doing her right now and her true fans will support her no mater what – if she chose to deliver the song this way on this night then so be it – its her song – u can either listen to it or ont – plus this is the millionth tyme she has performed this track so take ya pic of ya fav and listen to it – its a wonder y an artist has to prove themselves to someone who is porbably at home with nothing else better to do then to crtiicize someones every step or action – ppl even have problems with beyonce vocals and she is considered the best just aas whitneys and mariah – rihanna ciara -just enjoy the music and be happy – if u have an open mind then u will see the bigger picture – if u already come in to hate then of course ur not going to like her or the performance!

I agree wit lyric_lee all the way…ppl have bad days and if u come in here tryna hate on kelly or already have your mind set then of course ur going to see the bad…now im not gonna sit here and say that this was her best performance because it wasnt, but im not gonna sit here and say she can sing…because obviously kelly has proved herself as a singer time and time again (i.e multiple other performances of WLTO, Endless love, etc…) Kelly is a vocal powerhouse and has her share of good and bads as with every other artist…Even BEYONCE has her bad performances….and dont come and say she doesnt….but nobody ever says anything about her…But as Ive stated b4 Kelly is here to stay and she will prove…But keep hatin cuz thats her motivation and thats wat will light her fire…Hate hate hate cuz when u hate u got her in ur mind and u are viewing her videos to comment and hate which means that she is doin something right….no thought is bad but ANY thought keeps her motivated and around….So I jus have to say THANK YOU HATERS for the support you give to our girl KELLY

We all know Kelly can sing/..But Like somebody said before, she isn’t consistant with her live shows. Did anybody ever go to a DC concert? Whenever it was Kelly’s solo portion of the show, she sounded tired.
Honestly, as nice as her voice is, Kelly isn’t a great live performer. She is better in the studio.

her problems with her vocals is that she knows she isnt that good so when shes on stage it make it worse because she struggles to get the easy notes.

It’s obvious that she was sick. Her voice was definately hoarse and huskier than usual. However there have been plenty of times when she’s knocked this song out of the park so no one should be questioning her singing abilities. Especially since this is a very difficult song to sing(ZENGURU). She belts the ENTIRE song. This song requires power(lots of power) perfect pitch,breath control and stamina. I’d like to hear anyone of her critics deliver it better than she can. This was not a good performance as far as vocals were concerned because Kelly’s voice clearly needs rest but I give her props for performing live despite the state she was in. She could have and it probably would have served her better to sing to a backing track or cancelled all together;but if she had lipsynched you all would be talking yang about that and when you’ve been booked for an appearance or a show a cancellation just does not look good so you should not do it unless you absolutely have to. Kelly is the consumate professional and I’m sure she’ll bounce back in no time so long as she takes the time that she needs to get well and be the best that she can be vocally.
