With the release of Mariah Carey‘s remix LP ‘Angel’s Advocate’ drawing nearer, the diva’s label Island Def Jam have announced that the release will NOT be available in all retail outlets. Instead, the record will be released as an exclusive to retailer Target:
Mariah has completed her 13th studio album, Angels Advocate, a collection of newly remixed duets with some of her favorite artists, performing Mariah’s favorite songs from her #1 R&B album Memoirs Of An Imperfect Angel (released September 2009). Angels Advocate, on Island Records, will be available March 30 exclusively at Target stores nationwide, iTunes.com/target and Target.com.
Featured duet partners with Mariah on Angels Advocate include: Mary J. Blige, Ne-Yo, Nicki Minaj, Fabolous, R. Kelly, The-Dream & Ludacris, T-Pain & Snoop Dogg, Akon, Trey Songz, K-Ci & Jo Jo, and OJ Da Juiceman & OutKast’s Big Boi.
Not one to toot my own horn, but many of you will remember me suggesting such a move as best for the project, factoring in the initial album’s poor performance, and the further embarrassment a full-blown release flopping would cause for ol’ Mimi. By releasing the record as a Target/iTunes only release, the project takes on a ‘for the fans’ form, being less about sales – although I doubt this is what was intended for it initially. Back to the drawing board it seems for Mariah. Sigh…

I’m actually a fan of Mimi but didn’t buy the first release. I don’t think she does her best work with The Dream… However, I think I might get the remix LP because I’m feelin some of the features and new production.
BTW, the “Up Out My Face” vid looks like a big Target commercial anyway… so maybe all of this isn’t a coincidence..

It was announced as a Target exclusive a long time ago. It would seem as though this was always the intended purpose for this album. I’m certain it will fail, but will buy it, as I loved the original album and see no reason why I will not love the remix album. Just the fact that Mary J and Mariah are on it together alone, is enough for me to buy it. However, I’m sure this will sell half of what the original did, which is not saying much. Time for Mariah to leave those cowboys over at IDJ. They don’t have a clue how to promote and market Mariah.
I’m definitely the only person looking forward to this release. I didn’t buy Memoirs (tough economy, or else i would) but I still play it on the regular from start to finish on the regular.
But I probably will buy the remix album. People have done the “target only” thing for a while now. Christina Aguilera, Mary J Blige…

Hence why the video for “Up Out My Face” has the whole red/white theme going on in it….don’t be surprised if they start using portions of the video for a commercial for Target when March rolls around! Its called cross promotion my dear and a whole slew of artists are doing it these days! Christina Aguilera released her greatest hits album as a “Target/iTunes” exclusive as well! They are going to market this as a brand new album for Mariah which means when March rolls around she’s gonna be doing shows, interviews, etc……I love when folks predict the worst before it even gets off the ground! Don’t even go there haters. The Angel’s advocate CD was always intended to be a target exclusive. Mariah’s manager Chris Lighty tweeted about this back in October 2009, saying that they were sorting it out with Target to make it a target exclusive.
I am a huge Mariah fan and as a fan I just don’t see growth. The whole working with rappers she was one of the trendsetters in that, but it’s time to go back, back, back to the original Mariah when it was less about outfits, high heels, and looking cute. We want the sanging.
We need the sanging, the power ballads. I know it may seem boring to her, but that’s what we want. The songs she sings now, like that remix with Nicki is for someone like Ashanti or Rihanna with a voice like Mariah’s come on. If she comes correct there is no doubt the public will support her. You can say whatever you want negative about Mimi, but the girl can sang, we just need to hear her do it more.
I still support the diva, hell I play Glitter all the time. For her next project please listen to your earlier CD’s be inspired.

I don’t know why I’m bothering to post considering some of these inane comments, but I feel like I need to defend my favorite artist.
Mariah is more than her ensemble. She may dress provocatively, but that is where it ends. She may not be selling out every venue, but her voice right now is amazing (miles better than a certain other diva). Memoirs is a wonderful, underrated and critically acclaimed album. I for one, am looking forward to the remix album, especially because of the fact that there will be some unreleased songs added to it. Mariah is a living legend. She is one of the best vocalists E-V-E-R! There is no one else like her. Some should learn to appreciate someone with superior vocal talent. There isn’t much genuine talent out there these days.
