According to Hits Daily Double, soulful songstress Sade‘s new LP ‘Solider of Love’ is on course to sell between 400,000 – 425,000 copies first week. Yes, you read right!
The hotly anticipated set is the 51 year old Londoner’s first album in over 10 years, and has seen her embark on a whirlwind International media promo tour – including stops at BBC radio here in London, BET’s 106 & Park, David Letterman, and the Today Show.
It’s great to see quality music can still sell. What’s more, it goes to show that regardless of the economy, if the music is good enough, folk will part with their cash to buy it. More power to her!

Congrats…. I haven’t bought a cd in years! I actually had all the songs from the SOL on my ipod before the release but I went out and still bought it today. I have NO problem downloading current trend poppy music but quality music like Sade I am more than willing to pay. I love SADE!

She’s great & she deserves this , but just like with Whitney , her fans are the much older ones who don’t have a clue to how to download an album or a track, so of course they will buy the actual album. its the younger generation of fans who will love an album and still resort to downloading insted of buying legally. When Artist fans consist of this , their albums don’t sell . . .
Its not always about an album being great or not & the way music is today, if you ain’t doing electro pop or dance, your going to have a harder time.
Congrats are really in order here. They go away for a decade and they can still get a hit like this. Shows that people don’t have as short of memories as the industry thinks and that people really respond to music with sticking power. Not saying that everything that flops isn’t good, but it just makes sense that people like good music (the fact that she’s been around for a while and makes mellower music suitable for the older crowd who still buys music is a big thing too)
