Usher Performs At NBA All-Stars Pre-Game

Published: Sunday 14th Feb 2010 by Sam

Usher opened the NBA All-Stars Game, which took place at the Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, with an electrifying performance of ‘More’ and ‘She Don’t Know’ (both from his new LP ‘Raymond v Raymond’), as well as his 2004 smash ‘Yeah’. Check it out above…

Say what you want about him, but it’s hard to doubt Mr Raymond’s ability and agility as a live performer. After all these years, he’s still world-class, and able to hang with those who’ve come after him. Awesome performance.

Tidbit: Yes, he lip-synced everything aside from ‘Yeah’, however, considering a) the fact we all know he can sing and b) he put on one hell of a show with the choreography etc, he gets a pass.

What do you think of the performance?

  13. GeeMan February 14, 2010

Usually Usher is a masterclass but tonight he was average at best. As of late Usher has been off. Something seems like its missing even the material has been average other then Daddy”s home. Hopefully Usher can pull together and show these young ones how its done because his talent can’t be denied.

  14. MS.CLAY February 14, 2010

UGH! LIP-SYNCHING IS THE DEVIL!!! I DESPISE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! I LIKE USHER BUT HIS DANCING AND PERFORMING WILL NEVER BE THE SAME! IMO IT WAS REALLY LACKLUSTER AS FAR AS USHER’S USUAL PERFORMANCES! IT WAS STILL ENTERTAINING NONETHELESS! I STILL LOVE USHER THOUGH!

AND WHAT WAS UP WITH THOSE LEATHER CAPRIS HE HAD ON????…..EH?? NO!!!!!!!

  15. Ben February 14, 2010

  21. Biasdude February 14, 2010

The performance was because I’m not a fan of lip-synching, but I am a fan of Usher. I love the song “More” since it leaked, that is a great song and it should reach number 1 if he releases it.

  22. Biasdude February 14, 2010

    ^ ok*

  23. Fratboy February 14, 2010

U gotta give the majority of the credit to Quest Crew not Usher for the choreo from 1:15 to 1:50

  24. Manny February 14, 2010

lol reallly ? not only was that not intresting, but he gets a pass ? someone here is kidding me.

  25. Lady J February 14, 2010

Wooo hoo! Go North Texas! This year the All Star Game next year the Superbowl! Can’t wait for the insanity of the superbowl Cowboys Stadium is effin massive! Jerry Jones wasn’t playing around when he built it.

Why does Usher’s vest look like a prop from The Gladiator?

  26. SXSW February 15, 2010

Pretty good performance. He looked a little tired towards the end of Yeah but still one of the best. Go Ursh!

  27. ace February 15, 2010

omg quest killed it haha X3

usher… mehh, he was okay. 😀

  28. Ulises February 15, 2010

The performances were cool. I was lucky enough to be workin’ the event. Soooooooo MANY celebrities. It was a great day in Dallas! Haha. Great week actually. There was so much going on. Anywho, Shakira was my favorite out of all of them. Alicia Key’s vocal performance wasn’t her best IMO and Usher was cool. Shakira, although she did lip-synch a little, did a great job and looked super s***! Latin flava!!! Haha. =P I think Usher’s time has officially passed. Maybe he needs to let others like myself shine. Ha.

  29. antertain February 15, 2010

PEOPLE JUST REMEMBER WHO PAVED THE WAY FOR THE CHRIS BROWN’S OF 2DAY.

Usher definately is to be respected and not shut-down like he didn’t open doors.

Not really feeling the tracks though cus his songs sound like he want to please the market of 2day.

Usher needs to find that blend of 8701 and Confessions.
Here I Stand had some GREAT vocally done songs and almost hit the mark but overall the album was only slighly 2slow because if he had 2banging up-tempo’s that album would’ve been Great rather than very good.

Very consistant and i’ve got all his albums.
Confessions alone kept R&B relevant world-wide with it’s huge sales and that’s yet to be repeated by anyone in the R&B game.

  30. Pinkpop February 15, 2010

    looking forward to MORE…sounds great

  31. X,Y,”and Z” February 15, 2010

@Antertain — …And “that person” WAS NOT Usher! “That person”, is said-individual, WHO called 18 y/o Christopher Brown the “Prince Of Pop,” and THAT man’s name: Michael Jackson! MJ didn’t call Usher, Justin Timberlake, Neyo NOR Omarion “The Prince Of Pop!” NO, he – THE KING OF POP – called Christopher Brown, “The Prince Of Pop!” …MJ’s words, NOT mine!

… Step-away from the ledge, it’s NOT that serious!

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT!

  32. usherraymondblog February 15, 2010

This performance was amazin’. Usher gave them haters reasons to be mad. He is 30 and can dance like he was 20 & remains relevant.

I just wanna take the time to say thank u to the owners of this blog.
For their real work and for their objectivity.
Thank u for giving to Usher the respect he diserves after all he have done!

This is why I love this blog!Always the truth !

  33. jen February 15, 2010

i thought it was awesome! hes still got it! x

  34. X,Y,”and Z” February 15, 2010

    I must have missed-that “Usher-hater-memo”: Just WHO is “MAD-AT/WITH” ; FOR-OR-AGAINST, Usher?

… And SORRY… Jay Z saying that Usher is the “NEW” King of Pop is …. well, somewhat disingenuous – at best ,and sacrilegious – at worst!
… And WHO-IS Jay Z to be “making-up our minds?” Oh, I know: Jay Z who SOLD CRACK to Pregnant Women and Grade-School Children; Jay Z’s: Assault of a young-BLACK South African Girl; NOW-captured on video, and readily-available for ALL-to-see on the Internet!

… So why NOT – just get THAT 20 y/o, who the NOW 30 y/o Usher, can dance-like, to dance, in-the-first-place?
    … The “one-thing,” you Usher fans/supporters, DON”T want – is to get on MY ‘bad-side’; I have Rihanna(Jay Z) securely,’in-the-cross-hairs’ ; you don’t want your-man ANYWHERE near MY-CONTEMPT! … It’s about to get bloody…

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT!

  35. honesty February 15, 2010

Usher sit yo ass down!!!! Where was Chris Brown when they needed him. Usher was tired and out of breathe by the time he got to Yeah. All those performances was lame.

  36. MAIJIN February 15, 2010

    @X,Y,”and Z”
in what headline or dimension did Michael Jackson call CHRIS BROWN the “PRINCE OF POP”? I Challenge you or anyone to find that quote or headline, because my friend it SIMPLY doesnt exist. everyone knows chris brown doesnt have the musical nor vocal power of any successful grammy award winning pop superstar. His image and dance skills compensate as a diversion, but as he gets older, people are slowly dealing with this sad truth. you need only listen to his mixtape for v-day… HORRIBLE! out of 32 songs? come on man. Usher had countless number #1 singles by chris browns age and on his second album. numbers dont lie, auto-tune (FOR chris brown) DOES.

  37. Anne February 15, 2010

    It was ok.

  38. Deirdre B Pride February 15, 2010

Thank you Sam, I didn’t see anything wrong with his performance either. Twitter was crazy last night. Crazy mean.

  39. V February 15, 2010

Usher was waaccckkkk everyone was dissing him on twitter last night. The songs he sang sucked and his outfit was suspect. Tell me again why he was wearing leather capri pants and batman armour??? LMAOOO plus when he wasnt lip synching he was sweating hard and out of breath overall #FAIL!!!! Usher your swag is officially GONE. But for real wth did he sing those songs? Hey Daddy, Put it in my bag w/ T.I., Lil Freak with Nicki Minaj and there goes my baby r soo much better : /

@Maijin – “One of the artists of today that has garnered the most comparisons to a young Michael Jackson is Chris Brown. Like Jackson, Brown has been called a “complete package,” combining fashion sense, singing and dancing talent.”
    Here’s the link: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1614762/20090626/jackson_michael.jhtml

“Earlier this year, Rolling Stone named Chris Brown the “Best New Michael Jackson”, so it made sense that Brown told us a story about the King of Pop when he stopped by for lunch last week”
    Here’s the link: http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2008/06/10/chris-brown-has-michael-jackson-stories-three-films-on-tap/

    Usher’s DOB: 32, here’s the link: http://www.trueknowledge.com/q/ushers_birth
Usher – FIRST ‘went-GOLD’ with “You make me wanna” in 1997, now being 32, that’d make him 19, when HE had that, his FIRST hit!
CBreezy is ONLY 21 and first had “his-HIT” with “Run it,” which ‘went-Gold’ in 2005 when HE was ONLY 16 y/o! Here’s the link: http://riaa.com/goldandplatinumdata.php?table=SEARCH_RESULTS

Then there is “perception and reality”: Even Larry King asked CBreezy just why he wasn’t at that BET MJ Tribute, NOR at the actual Tribute that MJ’s family attended! Let us NOT also forget the public’s ‘collective-sighs-of-disappointment’ when BET/Jay Z didn’t allow CB to do that BET/MJ tribute!

The evidence is clear: Usher HAD his time! CBreezy is YET to reach HIS-prime, as a 21 y/o – he’s just ONLY begun!

    I rest my case….

  44. here to laugh February 15, 2010

It seems like something about Usher has been “off” lately…maybe thats just me. I

  45. I am Hatian February 15, 2010

    @ X, Y, “And Z”

in what headline or dimension did Michael Jackson call CHRIS BROWN the “PRINCE OF POP”?

This is the question that Majin asked of you. But yet you are just quoting what Magazines such as the like of Rolling Stone whom happened to called Justin Timberfake, my back Timberlake…”The New King of Pop”.

Maybe I should rephrase the question another way so you can better understand what Majin asked.

In what dimesion, planet, universe, galaxy, did the “The KING OF POP” , “The KING OF MUSIC”, Michael Jackson quote say Chris was “The prince of pop”?

  46. I am Hatian February 15, 2010

I am glad Usher don’t model his career to trying to be the next MJ. It is silly in itself how some folks have balls to think MJ will be replicated. The only person that I know was dumb enough to say Usher is the Next King of Pop was Jay Z. And I’m sorry love Usher to death even he can’t touch Micheal. Michael lives in all entertainers today old and new. When u see Omarion, Chris, Usher, Ciara, Beyonce, Janet, Giuwine, Sisqo, Neyo, Justin, Britney, Lady GaGa, etc the list goes on, you see Michael in all of them. HE INFLUENCED THE WHOLE POPULATION OF MUSIC ENTERTAINERS of today and possibly tommorow. It is ok for you to go ahead and put Usher under a bus because you want Chris Brown to rise up from his disgrace of hitting a woman, but do not think for a second we are fooled by your arrogance about calling Chris THE PRINCE OF POP!

  47. Jermaine February 15, 2010

    Yeah it wasn’t good

  48. Anonymous February 15, 2010

Usher DID NOT lip synch listen to 1:39 and you’ll see him stop moving his lips and his voice is gone and nothing is left but the background singers for proof. She Don’t Know he lip synched though. Outfit was wack though still the best performance of the night

  49. antertain February 15, 2010

    X, Y, and Z

Where in Chris Brown’s music do you hear or even see MJ.
I sure as hell don’t see MJ doing them moves in say “Take you Down” but as 4 Usher we’ve seen those moves already.

Yes CB he can dance but MJ don’t do them dances.
Yes CB can imitate a MJ’s moves but there will never be another MJ.

CB doesn’t have the musical catalogue to even BREATHE on MJ and let’s be clear he ain’t gonna.

C-Brezzy is more of an Usher than a MJ and that’s the truth.

Usher out-sells Chris and has had great longevity since his self titled debut album back in ’94.

CB is very talented so i’m not shutting him down at all cus the guy got mad skillz, but he needs to reach the heights of an Usher be4 even being near being classed as a MJ.

    Facts r Facts

  50. X,Y,”and Z” February 15, 2010

@Antertain and @”Iamhatian” – The articles speak for themselves, and if “White-MidWest-Mainstream Larry King can “see-it,” why aren’t you? Just so that we’re in the same Galaxy, Solar System , Dimension, and hopefully, “habitable-land-mass,” those links were found in the matter of a few minutes; I can assure you that I’d find the information you’d like, BUT I reasoned that ‘3rd party is hearsay’ you’d just as readily dismiss as….we’ll… rumor!

Was Usher to go on-tour with MJ on, what was to be MJ’s last tour? NO, but from all-reports, it was CB who WAS to go on-tour with MJ, NOT Usher! MJ choose Chris Breezy to go on-tour with him, NOT USHER! (As reported by FreddyO at freddyo.com AND Jacky Jasper of HSK.com)

@Anterain – I’ll NOT make this into a “CB vs MJ” fight or even debate; that’ll be ridiculous, and I’ll not entertain or could even imagine such.
We BOTH know there’ll NEVER be another MJ; much as there’ll never be another Muhammad Ali NOR Michael Jordan (try as Kobe or Labron will).

What YOU BOTH find difficult to accept is that Usher didn’t “pick up the mantle” and carry-on “in-the-spirit” of MJ; and that 21 y/o Christopher Brown has!

But you two shouldn’t hang-your-heads-in-sorrow, doubt or “what-could-have-been!” ‘Usher had-a-good-run’; he sold records, but HIS TIME, has come-and-gone! And it is CBreezy who fate, time and the gods have placed in a most-opportune-moment in history to HIMSELF: make-history! …”Feb 8th Chrianna” withstanding!

Usher’s performance was ‘put-to-referendum’ and the “populace-thus-spoke”; his performance, in front of OVER 100K, was “tired”, “washed”, “awkward,” “mediocre,” and thoroughly-unremarkable! …I’m CERTAINLY NOT ALONE in reasoning that, given such a historic setting-and-venue, he should have put on the performance-of-a-lifetime!

CBreezy was given such a setting, a “coming-out-party “- of sorts: the 2007 VMA’s; and said, to-this-day, is STILL being talked about: “COME THE HOUR-COME THE MAN!” Usher is a 32-y/o WHO, as a 21-y/o, wasn’t as dynamic a performer as 21 y/o CBreezy is!
In closing, I’ll reiterate, the world has spoken and chosen who THEY want to “carry-on” in MJ’s stead and HE is CBreezy!

  51. I am Hatian February 15, 2010

lol The world has spoken his last cd has not gone platinum and you wanna talk to me about the world has spoken? U r delusional.

  52. X,Y,”and Z” February 15, 2010

@Iamhatian – I’m referring to Usher’s performance last night, check twitter, then ALL of the Urban blogs to read -for yourself- what a disappointment HE was! …You DO realize that CBreezy HAS performed in front of 90K(+) in Asia while on tour!!

If the Tiger Woods incident; Mary J. Blige’s ‘video-assault’ of her husband and Charlie Sheen’s assault of HIS wife had happened in mid-2009, I can guarantee that CBreezy’s sales would have been VERY-different! NOT to say that selling over 100K, in the midst of a recession – not seen in recent history and being ‘THEN-branded-felon’ – isn’t a “herculean-feat” within itself!!

  53. I am Hatian February 15, 2010

So you r saying after his first performance for 2010 Usher is over based on critiqueing of one performance by bloggers such as you? Also after branded “A mama’s boy” “marrying a old dude” “personal attacks at his character calling him gay” , the fact he can still go platinum on his last album, after so much abuse on his character it not as much of an “Herculean -feat” as Chris?

  54. I am Hatian February 15, 2010

And no I don’t realize anything about Chris, because until he has done 15 years of longetivity in the music business and can go DIAMOND off of one album than come to speak to be about Chris. In the meantime I don’t know anything about Chris other than mimicing Michael Jackson and getting his krump style off people in the streets who do much better krumping than him.

  55. antertain February 15, 2010

    @ X, Y, And Z

    The facts don’t lie

Let’s see how well Chris is doing since he so much better than Usher (LOL)

Ok since Chris is on album no.3 we’ll just compare until then..

    Usher = 6 Top 5 Hits on Billboard 100
Chris Brown = 4 Top 5 Hits on Hot 100

    Usher in that time accumulated 3 @ #1, 2 @ #2 and 1 @ #3
    Chris Brown has 2@ #1 & 2@ #2

Did you say something about taking on the mantle??
Let me just say you don’t want me bringing up these stats when Chris comes with his 4th album because the real trouble is lurking ahead as Usher’s 4th album was confessions lol.

Be real with yourself and as talented as Chris is he won’t reach the milestones of Usher BUT he’ll have a really good career in the Industry and be showstopping.

  56. X,Y,”and Z” February 15, 2010

@Iamhatian — NO, I didn’t say that – let us keep “this” civil: don’t put words in MY mouth! And let’s leave, Usher’s ‘private-life’ out of this – shall we? I’ll NOT entertain any said discussions involving Usher’s “rumored-private-life,” I respect the brother far too much!
    …That said, let us proceed…

@Antertain – “One performance”, as-neither, one-situation/mistake, does NOT – a life and/or career – make! But when opportunity presents-itself – one MUST cease-the-moment! I’ll use Michael Jordan as example: “With money-on-the-table,” he produced! Another sports example: Usain Bolt – that young-man rises to the occasion: no-record is safe! The same with Barack, that last “debate” he had with/against several Republicans – it was he-against-several – and gave ’em a ‘proper-thrashing’; he too, rose-to-the-occasion!

…As far as, “mimicking dance-styles” …er…MJ didn’t ‘come-up-with; wasn’t involved in the-evolution-of, nor was original in using/doing nor propagating HIS “signature-move” : The Moon Walk! Soul Train dancers and even before then – street-dancers – did THAT move LONG BEFORE MJ brought IT to the mainstream!

As far as “picking-up the mantle” I’ll again reference “once in a lifetime” opportunities, that occur, well….once-in-a-lifetime: Motown’s 25th in 1983 and MJ doing the moon walk – certainly a ‘watershed-moment’ – in MAINSTREAM – popular culture!

The ‘one-inescapable’; ‘perfectly-crystallized’; “once-realized-then-hard-to-refute-fact” remains: Chris Brown is ONLY 21 years of age! Polo Da Don – ‘summed-it-up-best’: At 25, ‘artists-peak’! CBreezy, with “Feb 8th/09 Chrianna’s deferment of said-apexing” has YET to begin HIS-RISE!

Those artists/entertainers and public figures – BLACK ONES – who summarily condemned and banished that, then 20 y/o young-man, to-the-ranks-of the undesirable, wretched and dastardly – will THEMSELVES reap-ALL-ill-will-they’ve-sowed: Mary J. Blige’s ‘video-assault’ of HER husband;Oprah’s backpedaling regarding Bebe Winans; Kanye’s recent VMA antics; and the, ‘just-now-coming-to-light’ revelation that Jay Z sold Crack to Pregnant Women and Grade School Children; his stabbing that record producer ‘stands-as-testament’ to HIS character (or there lack of)!

    X,Y,”and Z” — OUT!!

  57. Davania February 16, 2010

Quest Crew did their thing =D
And “More” Is a good song 😉

  58. Renae February 16, 2010

Usher was a little stiff and tired as hell, maybe he need to spend more time with his personal trainers. All the performances sucked!!!!!!

  59. Kayley February 17, 2010

    i think it was gay
