Check out our girl Kelly Rowland at Mansions in Miami last night, for the ‘F*ck Me, I’m Famous event’ (which formed part of the Winter Music Conference). The singer was snapped backstage, in this daring ensemble, prior to debuting her brand new single ‘Commander’ live on stage.
While footage of the performance, which by all accounts was hot fire, should become available soon, Kelly shared a few tidbits with fans in an exclusive Ustream video chat just before she rocked the stage. Included were the fact that noted choreographer Fatima Robinson (Aaliyah, Black Eyed Peas) is her new choreographer and that it was Robinson who conjured up the (quote-on-quote) ‘sick’ routine for ‘Commander’. What’s more, select directors have been sent the song to come up with the videos concept, and perhaps most randomly, it took Rowland 30 minutes to don the pictured outfit!

I only brought that up because people are always yapping about other artists being unoriginal (Sam and Trent included), so I find it hilarious how the Kelly Flop stans aren’t saying the same things they may have said in a post about another celebrity. I just posted the video to illustrate a point (and give everyone a good laugh). It’s credible people that typically make fair assessments of Rihanna’s talent, capabilities and album sales. It’s typically die hard fans that make out of this world, ‘she did stellar!’ claims.
I love Kelly and I can be real about her. The reality is Kelly has always been overshadowed because it was set up that way, as a result she never fully developed on her own. Sometimes she’s not consistent, sometimes she doesn’t seem to have a solid image or concept people can latch on-to.
I’m hoping this year, that will change. Because…well..I’m a fan!
And to further elaborate on that point, I never come in and hate on Rihanna. I’m critical of her. There is a difference between those two things, and all these super-fans try to conflate the two things. Conflate means confuse and use them interchangeably, in case you were thinking about looking that one up. A critical opinion, or objective evaluation does not equal hating.
Any-who, I’m critical of all artists….because I am a BUYING customer. Even of artists I like, such as Ms. Kelly. I will continue to be, too. Answering criticism with things that don’t address those points just make super-fans look like illogical, crazed fools. Who can’t have a conversation about an artist they like and be honest about them, I can never understand that. Difference of opinion is okay, DENIAL is not!

That’s why I can call a spade a spade and I didn’t hop on the Kelly/Gaga/Beyonce/Rihanna bandwagon for the sake of doing so. There is a difference between using your brain and “stanning.” I’ve never said Rihanna’s sales were stellar, but i did mention that some people tend to exaggerate the extent at which it underperformed. If I do that, I’m a stan? LOL. I just find it sort of funny. We have people like Ke$ha who sing live and do horribly but for some reason no one has anything critical to say until a Rihanna Kid’s Choice Awards post. Mind you, I do like Ke$ha’s music but I’m not going to act like she can walk on water the way the Kelly stans are doing in this post. It’s no secret that many people who are hating are ust doing it for the sake of doing it. At least when I post, you know WHY I am being critical. 🙂 And seriously, posting irrelevant attacks towards Rihanna doesn’t effect me in the least. I never said i was a Rihanna stan. What that girl eats doesn’t make me s***. But if people are going to be hypocrites then they will get called out like Gaylord Rated X. We have the same opinion on Kelly’s outfit. I don’t have any negative feelings towards Kelly for wearing it, or any snooty commentary on how she’s unoriginal. The outfit looks like everything else people are wearing these days, it’s cute…but….It’s safe and boring.
I think Kelly fans get offended when people try to play her out, and they are defensive because people always try. …and we all know why they do that to her. She’s kind of an underdog.
I don’t complain about ‘stans’ I challenge them to make an intelligent comment instead of being psycho’s. Girl I know where you are coming from. My commentary on Kelly’s outfit may have come off snooty, yes, but I just didn’t feel the need to censor my immediate thoughts, and that’s just what came to mind. Had this been a more civilized blog where people didn’t go back and forth so much about nonsense and who is/isn’t a “hater” or “stan”, perhaps I would have thought it out more. I understand why Kelly fans would get offended the same way I understand why Rihanna fans get offended. She is also kind of the underdog since the whole “incident” and Trent and Sam try increasingly hard to paint the girl in an unflattering light. Sometimes it’s funny, but most times it’s ridiculous and messy. The same joke gets tired after a while. People are so blinded by their hatred they fail to think critically and anytime you challenge them to, you’re “hating” or “stanning.” I think the messiest of all are Beyonce fans though, but child, that’s a whole different topic altogether. 🙂
Kelly is actually going to have to impress me before I blindly support her. @ Gucci – I’m a dedicated Kelly fan and B stan, but I can see where ypu’re coming from. Unlike Rhi stans, you are honest about her sales etc, and don’t try to lie or create stats.
However, I do think Kelly is underrated and more talented than Rih. She has been put in B’s shadow, and I think this year will be her year to finally shine. She’s working with some good people and, as I really like Smooches and that was just a hype track, I can’t wait to hear Commander.
