Hot Shot: Mariah At Universal Studios Florida

Diva Mariah Carey looks cool, calm and confident in front of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit roller coaster at Universal Studios Florida earlier this week.

The ‘Touch My Body’ singer spent vacation time at both of Universal Orlando Resort’s theme parks, while hubby Nick Cannon, filmed auditions for season five of the NBC reality television show, “America’s Got Talent – which he hosts.”

This was not a particular good year for our genre. Alicia Keys’s album saved the day after only 2 months in stores. Beyoncé’s 2006 album sold just under a million copies. Mary J went platinum after a month on the shelves.
    Best Selling Albums 2008
    1. Tha Carter III / Lil Wayne ~ 2,874,000

    8. Paper Trail / T.I. ~ 1,522,000
    9. Sleep Through The Static / Jack Johnson ~ 1,492,000
    10. I Am… Sasha Fierce / Beyoncé ~ 1,459,000
2 Hip Hop albums and 1 R&B Album
I am surprised no more R&B albums made the top 10. Mariah Carey sold 1.2 million at number 18, Alicia Key’s 2007 album sold another 1.123 million in 2008 at number 22 and Usher was 1.120 million at number 23. Beyoncé’s album sold well after only 7 weeks of shelf-life. Rihanna’s 2007 pop masterpiece with a blend of R&B was at number 16 with over 1.2 million. I was surprised Ne-Yo or Keyshia Cole and even Jennifer Hudson were not higher. They all ended up going platinum though.
    Best Selling Albums 2009
    1. Fearless / Taylor Swift ~ 3,217,000
    2. I Dreamed a Dream / Susan Boyle ~ 3,104,000
    3. Number Ones / Michael Jackson ~ 2,355,000
    4. The Fame / Lady Gaga ~ 2,238,000
    5. My Christmas / Andrea Bocelli ~ 2,207,000
    6. Hannah Montana: The Movie (soundtrack) / Hannah Montana ~ 1,823,000
    7. The E.N.D. / Black Eyed Peas ~ 1,787,000
    8. Relapse / Eminem ~ 1,735,000
    9. The Blueprint 3 / Jay-Z ~ 1,515,000
    10. Only by the Night / Kings of Leon ~ 1,398,000
2 Hip Hop Albums, no R&B Albums (unless u include MJ)
However, it is notable that Alicia Keys sold 779000 albums after only 3 weeks of availability, Maxwell sold just under 1 million so did Whitney. I don’t particularly consider Rihanna cd as R&B but it was just 1400 copies shy from 500000 and Beyoncé was 200 copies away from 1.2 million.

Over the decade Alicia Keys made 2 appearances in the top 10. Beyoncé made 3, Destiny’s Child made 2, Ashanti and Usher made 1, Eminem made 4, T.I and Jay also made 1. Honestly we need more R&B artists to dent the top 10. The charts do not reflect the talent. Hopefully 2010 will be THE YEAR.

    Albums expected this year

    2nd Quarter
    April May June
    3rd Quarter
    July August September
    4th Quarter
    October November December

    Christina Aguilera Ciara Maybe Beyoncé
    Eminem Nicki Minaj
    Kelly Rowland Ne-Yo
    Jennifer Lopez T.I.
    Drake Britney Spears
    Jennifer Hudson
    Janet Jackson

Of course we know artists tend to change release dates so don’t hold your breathe. Honestly I think Lady Antebellum will remain in the top ten for most of the year and may wind up as the top selling album of 2010 cause in country all you really need is one good song to sell an album and it is working. I really hope Sade can continue to sell well and end up reaching the 2 million mark by the year end; Monica and Usher hopefully will make top 20.

sorry for my long essays i usually dont blog but i felt like saying everyhing i wanted to say here. the point is that r&b is not dominating the charts again hopefully in 2010 we will see more r&B artists going platinum and doing well.

in terms of album sales gaga is killing them. rihanna and alicia keys is doing well. sade too. need to see more r&B acts though not only in the u.s i acnt believe apart from alicia keys and rihanna (both have current albums) beyonce is the only female on the charts we have so much more talent.

  15. Last Boy on Earth April 9, 2010

    @sasha
R&B isnt so popular because people are sick and tired of love songs, all male r&b vocalists have the same tone of voice and all the female just talk about breakups, that is why the “I’m-indepedent-dominatrix-look” is so popular right now, people are sick of listening love songs and atm they prefer other type of songs, with more divorces then marriages, who wants to listen to a love song? Now r&b artists only talk about s**, that isnt going to lead them to nowhere but whatever maybe they will find their place with good lyrical content

  16. Dennis April 9, 2010

I always will love Mariah,no matter what her weight will be !!

  17. OSO_Deluxe Edition April 9, 2010

There is not hotter chica at that age!

  22. Sarah April 9, 2010

I’m fed up with f***** haters trashing Mariah’s weight. If a woman isn’t stick thin, she is automatically deemed fat.

Mariah is far from fat and is actually “thick.” She has a thick figure just like many of us black women do. I also have thick thighs.

Nowadays, many men prefer women with meat on their bones and not just the average stick figure. They like to have something to grab onto. You won’t get that from stick figures.

A “real man” would be more appreciative of Mariah, and other women who aren’t stick figures (but arent overweight) because they have meat on their bones and are well proportioned.

The men in this thread that are talking trash about Mariah’s are obviously barbie doll/stick figure chasers. My guess, anyway.

  23. G.U.S April 9, 2010

    Lovely!!!!

  24. Music Lover April 9, 2010

^ Actually most of the trash talkers are women who wished they looked half as good as Mariah. You know how jealous b****** are!

  25. AGENT_MIMI April 9, 2010

I BET SHE LOOKS BETTER THAN YOUR MOTHER’S AND SISTERS WHEN THEY WERE 40. IF YOU THINK SHE IS FAT THEN WHAT DO YOU THINK OF YOU MOTHERS, SISTER, AUNTS, OR FRIENDS BECAUSE I KNOW YOU HAVE SOME WHO ARE THE SAME SIZE OR EVEN BIGGER.

  26. j April 9, 2010

LOL! @ the truth and rob!!

  27. FiercerMC April 9, 2010
