As for your arguments about octave. Having a certain ‘octave’ doesn’t mean you can sing. Period. If your voice cracks and you can’t sing on key (also known as tone-deaf!) you cannot sing. No matter how you you spin it. The girl cannot sing. She always sounds off, fragile, and her background singers sound better (on key, stronger) than her.
You can barely hear the girl over here band. It’s not a matter of opinion. It is reality that she can’t hold a note. Any note. Ever. Without cracking or being significantly off.
Her tone is rare, and that yodel sound is unique. I <3 it in the studio.

That may very well be, but If you’re going to try to invalidate Soundscan, then you’re nullifying Billboard, because Billboard uses Soundscan. As I recall, you’ve been known to cite CB’s Graffiti single positions on Billboard’s R &B/hip-hop charts. Sam and Trent would be hard pressed to try to discredit Soundscan as well because they refer to Billboard when citing artist’s chart positions damn near every day.
So, according to Billboard vis a vis Nielson Soundscan, none of those Amazon discount cd’s were counted in her tally, which means that Rihanna sold almost 10K cd’s off of Amazon that weren’t even reported by Bilboard, HDD, mediatraffic, and anyone else that uses Nielson, unless they were sold for over half the standard market rate. The idea is that you can’t use price gouging to pad sales and boost chart position, which is why Nielson doesn’t count albums sold for less than half of the market standard list price. That list price being over $10 USD, which explains why $5.00 cd would be disqualified.
And either way you look at it, those albums sold during the amazon promo were neither here nor there because fewer than 10K were sold during that promotion and wouldn’t have made a difference in Rated R’s chart position. It wasn’t 10K albums that separted Rated R from the album in the #3 spot, and it wasn’t 10K albums that separated Rated R from whatever album charted higher the following week.

Neither I nor Symone said anything about RIAA. It was YOU who brought up RIAA. When this issue regarding Rihanna’s Amazon promo has been brought up in the past, someone usually alludes to how Nielson Soundscan doesn’t count cd’s sold at a certain price, not RIAA.
Look, your argument has already been undercut. Unless those Amazon cd’s were sold at a certain price, then they weren’t counted in her official total. So why not start entertaining other theories for why Def Jam allowed Amazon and Amazon only to run that promo. Usually when one retail outlet runs an exclusive deal with another company, there’s some type of pay-out involved. Ever consider that?
You can’t use Soundscan when it’s convenient and then turn around and try to discredit it when it’s not. Everyone uses Billboard as the industry chart standard in the US and Billboard uses Soundscan, regardless of how much longer RIAA has been around or whether or not RIAA counts sales differently than Nielson.
When I think of gouge, I think of hollowing out or cutting into, like gouging someone’s eyes out but you’re right, I am misusing the term. So, I’ll use another term instead of “price gouge,” I’ll use “dumping.” The Nielson soundscan rule for not counting heavily discounted albums is to encourage competition, prevent the padding of sales, and boosting of chart position by dumping cheap cd’s onto the market.

Just because you can’t explain the rationale behind the Amazon promo doesn’t mean that there wasn’t a strategy behind it, one that had nothing to do with sales padding because, as I’ve proven with my Nielson link, albums sold below half price are disqualified from the overall count.
Your quibbling over fewer than 10K albums proves nothing anyway, because even if you were to subtract the discount albums on Amazon from her Bilboard total, she would still be certified platinum.
