Don’t compare Christina Aguilera to anyone because she’s completely original. At least that’s what the singer claims to be in her latest interview in the May 17th edition of Billboard magazine. Aguilera had a lot to say about the constant comparisons being drawn between her and fellow Pop star Lady GaGa as well as why she isn’t inspired by making hit songs. Peep what she had to say below:
“I’m in it for the long haul, and a decade later in my career, I have nothing to prove. To anyone who wants to be negative, it’s like, ‘I’m obviously relevant enough to you for you to care and to talk and to evoke negative feelings inside of you.’ At this point in my career, I’m over any and all weird comparisons or negativity.”
And what did Aguilera have to say about making hit music? Here it is:
“There was actually a song that the label really wanted me to record, and I just said ‘no,’ because it didn’t fit on the album – it wasn’t creatively inspiring to me. They said, ‘It’s a hit, it’s a hit!’ And absolutely it’s a hit for someone. But it’s not for me, because when it jeopardizes my integrity too much I can’t do it. The hit thing… (sigh) ‘Who Let the Dogs Out’ was a f–king hit, you know what I mean?” {Source}
Aguilera is so right. Everyone knows that her ‘Stripped’ album and most of the tacks written for her by Linda Perry were in no way ‘inspired’ by P!nk’s ‘Missundaztood’ LP. Everyone knows that almost every ballad that she’s ever sung was in no way ‘influenced’ by Mariah Carey. Of course everyone knows that her ‘Dirrty’ video was not ‘modeled after’ Britney Spears’ ‘I’m A Slave 4 U’. Finally, everyone knows that her latest look and dance sound do not ‘resemble’ what GaGa has done in the least. Aguilera is completely, totally and absolutely original. She lives in a bubble and gets all her inspiration from the depths of her brilliant mind. Yeah.Right.
Sidebar: It’s great to see that Aguilera won’t jeopardise her integrity by making hit songs. It seems that her fans are making sure that her integrity remains intact because they won’t let her ‘Not Myself Tonight’ be a hit either.

Haha, his views, though outrightly harsh, is a breath of fresh air. Heck, a writer of a music blog is entitled to his opinions, even if to some it may seem a little extreme. I’m not saying that I’m agreeing with him, but I think for once, outrightly criticizing isn’t so bad after all. I mean seriously, it mirrors many of the stans or fans or whoever else that comes on here and lash out not only at other artists, but against themselves too. The reality of it is, most of the commentors here are not that subtle nor selective in the choise of words that they use. LOL, this post is funny. I don’t agree with Trent fully about Christina getting her creativity from other artists until this era. I seriously see Lady Gaga in everything she does now and that’s definitely not a good look for her. I think Christina’s best era was “Back 2 Basics” in 2006 because she was completely being her and in a lane that nobody else was even touching. I wish her much success witht this era and I will probably go out and support her because I really think she’s a great artist.
@ Angie, you are so damn right. Christina takes a lot of time off in between albums which is fine but she can’t expect all her fans to stay with her and understand her new direction everytime she comes back out. The industry is ever-changing and if you want to stay relevant, you have to prove something. That is Christina’s biggest mistake right now. People obviously aren’t giving her the warmest welcome back to the scene, so like you said Angie, I think she still has something to prove.

I love both Christina and GaGa. Christina has that kind of… feeling to her voice that gives me shivers, and GaGa is really out there and a big inspiration. Yes, I do think that Christina did something similar to GaGa and Madonna with the Not Myself Tonight video, but she’s just trying to get noticed again. Is that so wrong? So Christina isn’t 100% original. Neither is anyone else. This is really hateful towards Christina. I think you need to tone it down just a bit. Linda Perry just didn’t give P!nk the song because she didn’t feel she was ready for it. And P!nk hates Christina for that. Some of the things Christina says do sound bitchy, but don’t most artists say bitchy things? Like the whole Eminem and Mariah thing, Taylor Swift and Joe Jonas, and many others.
