After sending fans into a frenzy with the première of her new single ‘Commander’ this week, Kelly Rowland is proceeding full steam with the promotion of the track.
Indeed, it has been confirmed today that the song’s accompanying video will be shot next Wednesday (May 5th) in Los Angeles. While the clip’s director is currently unknown, the revered Fatima Robinson will be choreographing the video.

Tidbit: Word has it Rowland’s camp are mulling over whether to release ‘Commander’ in all territories or to go with another single in the US (What do you think?). In any case, current plans see the song being released to iTunes (including) in about 2 weeks.

I wouldn’t be surprised if they decide to release this song to the States. The song has sent everyone into a frenzy online. Everyone kept saying this girl was irrelevant but when she drops a song she recieved over hundred comments on each blog. A single youtube video clip of the song had already 100,000 views in less than two days. I’d say she has a huge hit on her hands. This has potential to be the number one song of the summer. Its actually what everyone is calling it now. “Commander” even beats out Not Myself Tonight. Kelly really surprised folks with this one. Can’t wait to see a video for this amazing song.
I think she should release the song commander in the U.S also. It screams hit. And a lot of people from AMERICA like it . like gay/straight men are really feeling it. Commander should be the Worldwide Release. Kelly went with Urban singles in the US with Ms Kelly and they all flopped because the Urban Audience didn’t support her, so why they crying now?
Kelly’s US team really should be looking at the Project as project A-List. They Should focus on pitching the song to be used in popular shows / ad campaigns that her CORE / new fanbase will see/hear and the video NEEDS to re-introduce Kelly to the US to an A-list Star . They need to give us the AOL sessions. She needs to be seen on high profile shows like SNL but also shows like Wendy and Monique for she personality to season this era. They also NEED to get MTV VH1 and BET on side. ‘Please don’t stop the music’ got mad love from BET and it is just as dance/urban. Hell even Bleeding Love was getting support from Urban Stations Down here in Atlanta every 15mins!

Kelly wont get played in the US with this song out the gate 1st. Its a great BSide for a more urban style dance record. Unfortunately the US market is shallow and will not go along with this single because of its closed mindedness and fear of something different. Kelly is going to have to release a more Urban style dance record to have success in the US. HOWEVER this song is EFFN AMAZING, and I cant stop listening to it. I don’t think the United States will care for this song…she has some major construction work to do on her image before she releases anything. People already see her as Beyonce’s hype man and it doesn’t help that she’s wearing one of Beyonce’s old wigs. Her image is unfortunately all over the place and that is going to hurt more than help.
The song is an okay song…but since she took so long to find a sponsor for her video I’m assuming it’s going to be low budget, which probably won’t be a good look. SMH.

“Smooches” would DEFINATELY be a smash Urban hit in the US…. Kelly brings a new kind of sass and swag that she hasnt done before with this song… im a Beyonce STAN but if u ask me, “Smooches” would wipe “Diva” out the water (being that theyre both produced by Bangledesh) if it were to be released.

Kelly Rowland crossing over to the Pop music genre, is a good thing. If she can blow up and have a strong following, have fans ; so be it.
I’m glad that black artists are begining to venture into other genres of music. and moving away from the R and B/ hip hop thing. It’s amazing how our community created the country music, genre of folk music, rock and roll, heavy metal, goth rock, and suddenly just ignored those genres for stereotypical urban sounds. We need to embrace diversity and real music. So, if Kelly is going this new route than good for her.
BTW: for the people that are Rhianna stans, I’m a fan , not a stan, but I can totally agree that Rhianna is talented. I had a Rhianna CD, and the girl is talented, and I’ve watched her concert on t.v. and the girl can put on a show. Can’t hate on the girl. Personally, I would think more artists would lean towards the rock genre since in the rock and alternative genres an artists has more allowed to be more creative and in your face. Whereas with RAnd B, one has to have the same concept in their videos. Falling in love with a roughneck, and the same plot and storyline. how boring.
