New Song: Amerie – ‘Who’s Gonna Love You?’

Published: Thursday 20th May 2010 by Sam

After a brief hiatus from the spotlight, following the poor performance of her ‘In Love & War’ LP, Amerie is back with new track ‘Who’s Gonna Love You?’ Lifted from the recording sessions for her as yet untitled new album, the song – which was released on Twitter moments ago – is believed to be a buzz track. Check it out after the jump…

Finally! Though the hook is a little lacking, this is the first time in a long while that an Amerie cut has possessed an instant likeability for me. A great mesh of Hip-Hop on the production tip, with soulful R&B on the vocals, vocals which themselves are laced with Pop sensibilities (catchy pre-hook/ “Eh eh eh eh”), this is a winner much in the vein of the material on her stunning ‘Because I Love It’ LP. Here’s hoping she serves up more of this goodness on the new record.

Hit or Miss?

Who keeps paying for her to have albums?!?!?! I mean did she even go aluminum with her last album?

  2. ADE May 20, 2010

I like Amerie but this song just isn’t doing it for me. LMAO @ “did she even go aluminium with her last album?” So harsh!

  3. i.d May 20, 2010

she pay for her albums herself, she works from her OWN label
whilst others cant write, produce or play instruments she prefers to control her OWN creative input.
tell that to the beyonces, rihanna’a ect who pay for hits
    Anyway…
im a huge amerie fan, but this is serverly lacking in ALL departments
everything from the vocals to the production
i hope this isnt representitve of the new album

Girl all of Amerie’s music sounds DATED. If this was 2000-2003, then this would have been a smash hit, but this girl needs to just re-think her entire approach because it’s not working AT ALL. Her last album sold 12k copies that was the biggest failure of 2009.

I LOVE Amerie back in the day, but honey PAHLEEZE switch your sound up.

I mean, it’s a good track. She just needs to step up a bit. Coz her music has always been SET in like a time zone. It’s her so…

  7. Rashaan May 20, 2010

Amerie has fallen off….I was so disappointed with her last album that I feel like I wasted my money on! She used to be so good but I am not feeling her music as of late!

  8. Chica May 20, 2010

It’s sounds decent,I like it. I liked her last album aswell. It was solid. My fav album though is because I love it.

  9. Dave May 20, 2010

Punch I.D. & her last album “In Love & War” was great to me! It was excellent @ that. People just being their usual lame self & didn’t wanna try or hear something new, or different from her.

  10. Kev May 20, 2010

It wasn’t bad! I heard potential, but there’s something amateur about the production. I’m a songwriter and I can see where it went wrong, but I can see what was needed to improve this track. The vocals need to be filled in more and layered properly. It’s sounds very raw. Amerie should do something new next time and step out of this style of music. This wasn’t a bad offering, it just sounds very incomplete.

    RICH HARRISON! PLEASE CALL HIM!!!!

  18. THE_r0Ck May 20, 2010

I like Amerie, she just needs to come alot harder. She has a cute voice just don’t have no “UMPH” behind her. Its always just mediocre. Its like she has never been the same since after her 1st album.

  19. ViVi May 20, 2010

Hmm, haven’t I heard this song before? I love her style, but for real there is something to be said for production value, originality, and quality… all of which need to STEP THEIR GAME UP. Her voice is so amazing, put it on a worthwhile track please. DAMMMM!

  20. musciatedone May 20, 2010

the production is okay…….and ummm….she needs a better vocal producer or something cuz it’s not cuttin it for this track!

  21. kveick May 20, 2010

    sloppy

    and i actually like Amerie

  22. hardcastle May 20, 2010

i love this chick, and shes beautiful.

  23. Maya What May 20, 2010

What the beat knox’s hard and her voice is so raw I love it.

  24. Ben May 20, 2010

I agree with Kev, it just needs a couple more editing sessions. Lyric wise, sounds like a 4th grader came up with those words. But I love her gritty R&B/Hip Hop flavor, very different from what else is out there. The beat goes hard though. Even though she tends to stick with the same style from 5 years ago, at least she isn’t selling out for the Euro-Dance-Pop craze like everyone else. She is being original. She knows what fits her and makes her comfortable and I don’t care what anybody says, she is a TRUE artist.

  25. Wesley May 21, 2010

This song is not cheap and the lyrics are good and not bad or decent

  26. Wesley May 21, 2010

Plus she’s working whit Rich Harrison & Missy elliot and more maybe you need to find better info instead of just thinking your own dumb thing plus Amerie songs are not the same that’s your dumb opinion but it’s not the truth Amerie always got the greatest songs and some people even have Aaliyah & Amerie together as best R&B singers so stop talking dumb s*** Haters are the most dumb people in the world i mean Why the hell would you wanna hate someone if you know how good she is loving someone is better and easier that hating someone Amerie is great just accept it PLUS…….. if your a Amerie hater than why would you listen to her video and write a very long and dumb comment about it dont you waste your time than looks like HATERS are dumb tough
