According to hitmaker will.i.am, British Pop star Cheryl Cole recently signed a US deal with his will.i.am Records imprint (which is distributed via Interscope). Cole joins the likes of the Black Eyed Peas, Fergie (solo) and Kelis on the label. More after the jump…
Speaking to the Big Issue, Will said of Cole:
“[Cheryl’s] dope, I like collaborating with her. We’ve talked about working on her next album, plus we signed her to the label in America.We’re [just] figuring out how we go about it in the States. It has to be something really incredible done in a different way.”
The Black Eyed Peas frontman also addressed the rumours that he has become romantically involved with Cole, following her recent separation from footballer Ashley Cole:
“I heard that, it’s so not true. Cheryl is a lovely girl. We’ve had the best time on tour, hanging out after the show and partying.”
Granted we’re not ones to wallow in gossip, I have no qualms in saying that it’s not hard to believe that a romantic link is what secured Ms. Cole her deal. After all, it couldn’t have been her ‘talent’ – which more times than not fails to turn up when she does. I mean, honestly; granted the US market isn’t necessarily the Mecca of music (or at least not to the degree it once was), it’s still a very hard market to break. Do folk actually see Cheryl ‘Mic Never On’ Cole making an impact there? Then again, stranger things have happened…

She relies on great producers for hits and Will.i.am is just that…so I think she has a chance, because she does have at least one killer song.

I live in America and I am very excited to hear this. Her live performances (whether she’s singing live or not) are hot, as well as her videos. Especially with the help of will.i.am, I would be surprised if she wasn’t successful.
