Christina Aguilera has decided to go with ‘You Lost Me’ as the next single off her ‘Bionic’ LP. The singer’s new album recently debuted on the Billboard 200 at #3 with embarrassing sales of 110k copies despite heavy promotion. ‘Not Myself Tonight’, the 1st official single from the album, failed to resonate with audiences and peaked at #23 on the Billboard Hot 100 before quickly slipping off the charts. {Source}
It looks that Aguilera’s team has adopted a new approach in an effort to salvage this project. With it being blatantly obvious that younger audiences simply don’t care about what Aguilera has to offer, her label must be trying make a play for the Adult Contemporary market which is generally more motivated to buy albums. While ‘You Lost Me’ is without a doubt one of Aguilera’s best songs in years, she will still face a difficult challenge attracting AC fans as they generally support more conservative acts such as Susan Boyle and Sade. Considering this fact, Aguilera might be wishing that she never got naked and oiled up in her ‘Not Myself Tonight’ video.

It was obvious You Lost Me would be second single, she performed i t everywhere…Im not mad, it’s her best ballad on Bionic…but it seems like the label is back tracking from her “new sound” and choosing a safe ballad.
I would have perferred some more relfective of her new album for the summer and save You Lost Me for Fall/Winter. I woukd have gone with: Bionic, Glam, Prima Donna or Eleastic Love…

I really don’t see anything saving this album. Personally, You Lost Me is far from one of the best songs on Bionic. I think a better selection would have been I Am.
None of the ballads on Bionic could never top Beautiful. That song is a Grade A classic and is far more touching and it appealed highly to the masses.
I’m surprised you didn’t mention that “Whoo Hoo” failed also. It did go to radio — it was indeed promoted as a single. Two flops already from the album.

I love Woo Hoo. That’s my personal song of the summer even if it isn’t an official single. That said, I definitely understand the decision to sack it as a 2nd single. Audiences clearly aren’t interested in CA’s “Woo Hoo” and I think it’s time to get back to what defines her as an artist: her voice. Bionic is a strong CD and if this clicks, I think that she could do between 3 and 4 more singles from it.
Oh, and another thing: who is styling her this era? The whole platinum blonde/rock chick thing with the blood red lips is a real hot mess. She needs to get that together.

Yes the first week sales of 112,000 (US) were lower than were deserved but it’s not supprising, people buy albums after they hear a single they like. “Not myself tonight” was a stupid single choice as it doesn’t give any insight into the overall sound of the album and Hype Williams screwed C/X over with that video there was just too much going on.

well NMT was her worst song and video to date.. the video was even badly edited and promotion for the single was extremely poor at the time of release, which resulted in a no:23 debut.. if she did promote it as much as she did last week it could have been a top 10 hit, but she didn’t except for one awful performance of the song on Oprah.. The other songs from the album that I think would have been a good release as 2nd single would be “Desnudate” [tht’d be my alternate choice besdies “Elastic Love”] as well as

“Bionic”
I really do like “You Lost Me,” especially from all the performances but I think she should have saved it for a fall release/early October, and who knows it could have helped lead into the promo for Burlesque or even made it onto the soundtrack. But “YLM” shoulda been saved for the 3rd/4th Fall-Winter single. Like some1 had said it is summer, ppl want to have fun and dance. Ballads are best suited for the Fall/Winter.
AnyWho I’ll still support her decision. I just really hope the promotion of ‘Bionic’ continues into 2011, and doesn’t stop because of Burlesque this November.

It’s not that the general public didn’t like Not Myself Tonight, but the biggest American Radio Stations like KIISS FM, crealy boycotted the song.
I actually really liked “Not Myself Tonight”… a lot. The music video was not a wise decision, considering that both teenagers and adults alike do not want to see Christina parading around in leather, dominatrix outfits, while “kissing on the boys and kissing on the girls”.
“Bionic” is a great album, much better than “Back to Basics” IMO. Still… maybe it’s just that Xtina has lost her charm. I feel that another album is going to be due from her in 2012 to save these disastrous sales.
