Pop princess Katy Perry took to the stage at the MTV Movie Awards 2010 a few moments ago to perform her smash ‘California Gurls’. Check out how she fared below…
For such a big stage production and smash of a song, that was a rather boring performance, wasn’t it. It appears Ms. Perry has been taking tips from her pal, Rihanna, about performing (“walk, walk, stop, pose…now repeat”). Not atrocious, yet not what it could’ve been.

No commentary? So no one is going to be truthful about this performance but you throw shade at Christina? This was a mess. I don’t even like the song. Sam I know you’re the lesser of two evils but girl we need you to give us the truth.
Christina clearly had the best performance of the night. This was garbage and I was not feeling that Beyonce wig katy was wearing either.

I know I’m the minority here, but I actually like Katy Perry. I think she’s fun and cute without taking herself seriously. It’s mainly her personality I like. I know that she isn’t by any stretch of the imagination a great singer, but she’s not as bad as people make her out to be. I’ve seen a lot of her live performances (where there isn’t any possibility that she’s lip-syncing, so don’t come at me with that), and she’s a decent singer. People give her too much of a hard time on her vocals like they do with Madonna. At least Katy’s voice doesn’t sound like cats being strangled, she has stage presence, and looks good doing it. Things that I can never say about Rihanna, unfortunately.
Uh uh here come the Rihanna stans. I can’t even call them haters because they are undercover stans. Bringing her up like their life depends on it. <3 Have fun
Oh and Gucci, that’s not a Beyonce wig, as that hairstyle did not originate with Beyonce. Bettie Page ( a 1950s pin-up model, look her up) rocked that look first and made it a popular one, and Beyonce is just one of the many people to have payed homage to her with that hairstyle.

@ TRUE BLUE everyone knows beyonce paid homage to bettie very recently and made that wig famous again, and I thought it made Bey look horrible anyway, so stop downpalying it , and your girl Ms Perry is a Beyonce fan too. Her performance was okay though but I have seen better from her.

She did a bit more than Rihanna ever does. I think she sounded good, despite the fact that I don’t like the song. All in all, the performance was missing something.

then I’m actually amazed that Perry sound good (because the few lives I saw where not good at all)…
concerning the dance etc… Sam… don’t compare her to Rihanna because contrary to her she don’t use her hips/ass shaking on the first place. and she’s not supposed to really know dancing (and this perf proves it) anyway. the song is just about having fun and she really handle it.

I thought it was a nice performance, her dancers were cute, s***, and very California, I like the girls on skates for real. Katy at some moments looked a little stiff, maybe if she would have wore sneakers like her dancers, she could have moved a little better. Could have had more interaction with Snoop besides the kiss on the cheek at the end. I liked all the background graphics, and she DID sing live. So all in all, there isn’t much bad to say about it. As I said before, the song will no doubt become irritating after a moment, but by then there will probably be another city homage song out to replace it.

I like Katy Perry alot. the performance was a hit & miss for me though, truly. Could have been more fun, but it was okay. Her vocals weren’t THAT bad, but i’ve seen & heard better. still like the song, and still looking forward to her album.

If anything it doesn’t remind me of Rihanna. It kind of reminds me of old school Mariah..It’s cute i can’t hate Katy Perry she has proved herself as a singler and this is just a single to get hyped to and enjoy, perfect for the summer. Though not her best stage show, i’m sure it will get better as time goes on we know she can dance we’ve seen her open a couple years ago for the mtv movie awards. Just watch and enjoy why so much judgement? lol
Before everyone goes crazy i meant it reminds me of Mariah in the fact of her old ‘Heartbreaker’ performances and dance wise. Not vocally haha ….Mariah & Katy obviously have 2 very different styles of singing =P
Okay, first of all the reviews for these kind of performances suck. Actually, the reviews for a lot of TheGrapeJuice performances suck. Granted now, I am a HUGE Lady GaGa fan and I am just about in love with Kelly Rowland, but I’m not going to sit around and compare the two’s success or downfall to anyone elses. When they suck, I can admit they suck. Kelly Rowland’s WMA performance was near horrible (even though I liked how she worked the stage) and yet it got a better answer from TGJ than the Christina or this performance. I don’t care two licks for X-trina but I can admit her performance was amazing. As well as this Katy Perry one. NOT EVERY SINGER IS A PERFORMER! The chance to perform for the VMA’s is to promote your album/single. Not to give the biggest bugdetted show or be the best dancer in the world. Not ever singer can dance you know. Lady GaGa is my favorite entertainer currently and I love her over the top performances, but that doesn’t mean Katy Perry has to do the same thing. She makes chill music and does what she can do in her limits. Thank God she’s not looking like a fool trying to do more than what she presents herself to be. She’s a singer. What happend to when singers just sang instead of trying to be these incredible human beings?

Uh, what the hell are you talking about? I never said one bad word about Beyonce, and I wasn’t the one to bring her up first. Gucci referred to Katy Perry’s wig as a “Beyonce wig”, and I corrected him/her by pointing out that Beyonce is not the first person to wear that hairstyle. It wouldn’t matter if Katy wore that look before Beyonce (in fact, she did!), the point is it would be stupid to say that the style belongs to either of them. No double-standards here at all. Please learn some reading comprehension, so that you can spare yourself from looking like a fool next time.
It was alright. It was light and cool, because it’s not a very serious of a song, where it would show that she’s a powerhouse or something. For what it was it was light and fun.
