Former Danity Kane star Aubrey O’Day recently opened up to Global Grind about her experiences following Diddy‘s disbanding of the Platinum-selling group more than two years ago.

The 26 year old talked in some depth about Diddy’s handling of Danity Kane, her struggles (not having a manager, an agent nor a publicist), her regrets, her ‘comeback’, her new Oxygen reality show, and much more. A very insightful read…

On The Hard Days:

“I’m never going to front like there has never been hard days, there have been many hard days and I think for anyone in this industry there’s ups and there’s downs. I just quoted one of Jay-Z’s songs the other day, the Hollywood song. It said something like the only thing that matters in the industry is where you’re sitting when it stops and there’s a lot of reality to that. And not even just in like a physical way, but in a mental way. You really have to be able to handle the ups and the downs and you have to be able to get yourself right.”

On Diddy and Making The Band:

“I never realized how much Diddy and that entire Making The Band situation shielded us from and took care of  us. I mean I had no idea what was going on until I had to step out there on my own with nobody protecting me. It is a whole other ball game. I mean we had everything handed to us in that situation and we really mostly could focus on our talent and focus on the enjoyment of what we were doing even though we (Danity Kane) still found ways to not do that.”

On Life After Getting Fired:

“Until you’ve hustled on your own or been completely on your own… I don have an agent, I don’t have a manager, I don’t have a publicist, I don’t have any of that. I’ve done everything since being fired on my own. You know, like I said. I do it on my hardest days for the fans. There are people out there that grind every day. There are single moms out there that have two kids that are trying to figure out how to put food on the table every night. My struggle is no different than anyone else’s struggle and I’m lucky enough to be enough of a public figure to have a forum to where people listen to what I have to say and if anything, at the hardest point I want my message to be keep going, keep fighting.

On Having Regrets and Thinking It Was Over For Her:

“For so many interviews in my career I always said no I have no regrets, you know everything is all good you’ve got to learn from your mistakes and blah blah blah. And, genuinely my heart believed it to be true but um I was watching Kevorkian the other day on HBO  and he said the most interesting thing. They asked him that same question… and he said “Of course I do, who wouldn’t. If anyone told you they didn’t have regrets they’re lying.” Everyone has regrets there are things that everybody wishes they could have done different or understand what they understands now, it’s just a part of life but you find a place where you’re happy with the decisions you’ve made and you’re happy with where you’re at and you know it’s just one big lesson learned. And did I ever think it was all over, yeah I had my moments where I really was fighting for every last inch. I used to listen to Al Pacino’s speech that he gives the football team on Any Given Sunday where he talks about how you have to fight for every inch, nothings handed to you in life and it’s all those little tiny moments that make the big picture happen and it’s like getting through something as small as an inch, it’s fighting for just one inch. And I say that little speech to really get me through the bad days.”

On Working Hard On Her Comeback:

“It doesn’t matter where you’re at when the jobs don’t come or the jobs get taken away from you or you have to fight to find them yourself. I mean I was watching this thing on Sunday where he talks about how you have to fight for every inch you know and nothing’s handed to you in life and it’s all those little tiny moments that make the big picture happen and its like getting through something as small as an inch it’s fighting for just one inch.”

Now that’s more like it. Ms. O’Day comes across markedly more mature here; seemingly understanding her faults and missteps – both of which appear to have humbled her. As an on-and-off Aubrey advocate, I can only hope she brings this new perspective into her solo journey and leaves the trashiness of yesteryear in the past. More power to her.

Aubrey is well versed in the art of crowd pleasing she knows what to say and I’m sure she’s been rehearsing how best to come accross well for the Danity Kane fans and for the public that know her for her playboy image. I guarantee you she’ll go for I’m humble but still s*** image of a sweet caring fun loving girl that has had it hard, been misunderstood, victimised yet sting strong and struggling (with her high profile mates and the new, car & home she just bought whilst she drives to the bank to check on her mummy daddy money + the Playboy cheque).

She’ll be the determined fighter that is trying to do what she loves (sing) when we all know she just wants to be in/famous anyway she can but would rather be acting than singing anyday. She’ll drag at the heartstrings of the DK fans all the way with the “I loved that group” b******* and the sudden rekindled friendship with Aundrea and Shannon yet no mention of Ebony (her BFF).

Since when was she so grateful to Diddy again?

    She betta WORK!

  7. SparkD July 25, 2010

Aubrey said that Puffy shielded her from the coldness of the industry…kinda reminded me when the Temptations left Motown. You have a problem where you are. You leave, and find that it gets no better.

  8. GangsterA July 25, 2010

For some reason I love her dk were the best group since dc

Not an Aubrey fan (ever!) but she has always spoke her truth. I’m glad that she seems to have matured, she seemingly threw opportunities away. She was working in Peepshow out here in Vegas and the rumor was she was being very difficult and flaky, so they did not ask her back. I know she was making good $$$ for Peepshow cause I know Holly Madison makes reallllllly good $$. To me she always seemed like she just wanted to be famous, no matter how or what and that sickened me but hopefully she has dedicated herself to whatever it is she wants to do and not just appearing in blogs for publicity.

I will not be watching her show but I wish her luck in life.

well I have nothing against her but I still don’t like her…
and all those quotes from TV… damn she really have time for that…? she needs to work harder because she never really try… mabe this time she’ll do everything is needed to shine.

  14. BENJAMIN July 25, 2010

It seems as if she really does regret the things she did, through all of those quotes she has made. She is a bit cocky and doesn’t quite think things through before her actions, but one thing I always liked about her is that she stuck up for the group and expressed their concerns when everyone else was too afraid of the big bad Diddy, just not always in the right approach. Remember on the second season when DK was making their second album, and in the beginning process, the group didn’t like where the album was going, she went to Diddy about it, and from there they got their top ten hit-“Damaged.” So despite her issues, she always had good intentions.

Nice read hope things work out for her.

  16. Blair July 25, 2010

love her…but it sounds like she’s watching ALOT of tv lol

  17. Nanci July 26, 2010

Aubrey is just quoting artists and sayings from TV shows. I didnt see where she personally connected with the questions and said “I regret this and that” She just kept saying “Well in this one show I saw the other day, the character said…” or “like Jay-z said in Hollywood” I mean, what does AUBREY say??

  18. TJ July 26, 2010

    @ ANTHONY TOTAH

Yes, she’ll be the new queen of pop…because legends always make it to the top through things like reality shows. Nevermind actual talent, songwriting ability, vocal prowess, etc.

  19. TEAMAUBREYODAY July 26, 2010

    @ TJ
you watch and see. She is going to blow up and be so big!
So how about you be quiet because she has real talent..hahaa..HI HATER.

  20. SK8TEBOIHUSTLA July 26, 2010

whats funny is all you ppl tryna clown but aubrey can actually sing!..i mean really good! if you watched mtb from 2004 when they performed in bars and clubs she sung her ass off…now i do agree she just wants to be famous no matter what and should use her talent..if she would have moved right into music after dk she would def be successful but she bullshitted for 2 years and the hype blew over but! she can sing..hell youtube it

  21. auberella July 26, 2010

  22. hmmmmm July 26, 2010

They photoshoped the hell out of her lol but she seems nice

  23. antertain July 26, 2010

Now this is the Aubrey i know from the Making The Band days.
Speaking honestly the fighting her cause which is what she did alot with DK (up til last few months)

I regret not gettin to have the opportunity to see Danity Kane flourish and be the hottest girl group with DC retiring and PCD not selling well…

  24. royalkev July 26, 2010

Some of these comments Aubrey’s making may come across sincere, but I get the impression it’s coming from a different place. She’s certainly one of my favorites in DK, not only for her talent – but because she’s frank. In this case I think she’s trying to lighten things up with Diddy to move on. I’m sure she was blacklisted. That’s just the kind of jerk Diddy is. Who does he shield and protect? … 112, Faith, Dream, Total, Shine, Cheri Dennis, Mase, Mary J Blige, Lil Kim, Craig Mack, Lox, junior Mafia, Carl Thomas, Biggie or Danity kane weren’t protected! All these artist were either ill advised (Biggie, attending the awards in Los Angelos), given the boot, no longer on speaking terms or were on and off again with him(Mase, Lil Kim, 112, Lox). He took songwriting credits from 112 (by adding unnecessary lyrics to compositions that were already done). He replaced Mary J with Faith as if she was disposable. He even did that to his main choreographer Laurie Ann Gibson(on MTB), before she managed to get her job back. I’m sure he’s kicking himself now that she works with Gaga. Diddy is nothing but trouble. I would have love to see DK survive or atleast Shannon, Aubrey and Dawn move on as a trio! I’m convince that the new tune Aubrey is singing is just apart of her comeback strategy… Who could blame her!

  25. smile July 26, 2010

Once upon a time I really liked Aubrey but not so much now. I agree with other posters… this is a comeback strategy. It was easy for her to stand out in a group but what she failed to remember is that she only received those opportunities (maxim, broadway etc) because she was Aubrey O’day of Danity Kane. This girl is all about doing and saying whatever will get her attention. She thought that posing for playboy was going to take her career to the next level and it did not. She was on the cover and literally 30 days later somebody else was and she was forgotten about. She does not know how to be herself and let that be enough. So she has gone from girl next door to overly sexual fake lesbian and now back to humble Aubrey who has seen the light. I don’t believe her.

DK was given a wonderful opportunity (yes even if it was with Puff) and they all blew it. So I would not be surprised if the other girls (Shannon, Drea, Wanita) eventually give interviews in the future where they also express regret.
