With the buzz for Kelly Rowland‘s new material at all-time high, the 29 year old has revealed that her 3rd studio album will now be hitting stores on October 26th. The record had previously been set to hit retailers on September 21st, however was postponed due to the Destiny’s Child singer hitting the studio with some of the industry’s biggest hitmakers.
Speaking of which, Rowland also confirmed that label-mate Akon will be producing on the as yet untitled album. The singer/songwriter /producer joins the all-star cast who have collaborated with Rowland on the record – inclusive being Tricky Stewart, Ne-Yo, David Guetta, Rico Love, Bangladesh, Jim Jonsin, Ester Dean, Dr Luke and Stargate.

This record is probably going to be really good (The list of collaborators is very, very, very impressive!), but if Kelly Rowland’s ‘goal’ is to break the U.S. market, every move has to be PERFECT. Kelly’s (possible) demographics and T. Swift’s aren’t too far off. Both are the teenage 16-24 crowd who just need a nice hook to love a song.
Even if the record is incredible, Kelly cannot make stupid mistakes like this one. I hate it when people call out the greats (Mariah Carey, Xtina etc.) on having flops, because they’ve proven themselves time and time and time again, but Kelly Rowland is a baby. If she wants to make a name for herself, she better get out of Taylor Swift’s spotlight, because the only artists I know that could match up to T. Swift’s star power is Beyonce, Gaga, and maybe Britney Spears.
Here’s hoping she changes the date. She should just be open and say that she respects Taylor as an artist and understands that she can’t match up to her and her foothold in the industry. The general populace loves humility.

Another pushback, what a surprise. This has been a dead summer for music, with the exception of Katy Perry’s big promo. I still haven’t heard “Grown Woman” on the radio. Ah well…….maybe it is best she waits till’ later in the Fall, but the downside to that is that a ton of artists will be releasing albums in the Fall, most notably “best friend” Beyonce Knowles (dramatic music plays). We all know what happened to Michelle Williams and Solange when they tried that in 08, and them “boom,” came Sasha Fierce. So she will have tougher competition. My thing is, it is getting to the point where you feel condident in releasing the album or not, we all know it is completed, cause all this footsying around is getting pointless. So what if your singles aren’t charting, put it out anyway, there are tons of artists out there that can put out a number one single, but a s***** album. Pushbacks only make people lose interest after a while, and pretty soon the focus is on somebody else. Oh there is so much to say about this dying music industry, but I have added my two cents.
I think she is doing the right thing, the general audience needs to hear from Kelly more. And as for the dirty money and rowland comparisons of releaseing too many singles before the album being out bad is B*******. Look at Usher and Drake. They both released several singles before their album came out, and guess what? They sold so MANY CDS!!!! idiots.. the same may work for Nicki Minaj too. Kelly is just trying to establish her sound and to have people think about her, not just release a cd…and her promo has not been full blown yet to really know if anything is doing good or not.. What I did want to say was about music & money – now I’ve got no idea what people earn on average in the US or how much music costs there, but here a single will cost me about £0.79 and the last album I got (Aphrodite) was £4.99 – now to me that seems pretty cheap. The Commander track I bought for 79p is going to give me way more pleasure for way longer than a can of coke would do – and £4.99 would just about get me a coffee, muffin and newspaper in Starbucks. So yes Kelly will get my money and Keri too.

Yeah in Europe plus I’m not like in the marketing side of things or publishing or anything – I just sit at my mixing desk twiddling knobs and sliders or more often doing the same thing with my laptop – and every now and then (well twice so far) I get paid to do some backing vocals at live gigs – I’m a very small cog in it all, not like some producer or anything. Oh and my BF’s in a band too. But none of the stuff I work on is urban at all – all pop and electro.
Plus as I’ve probably said before (as I tend to go on and on) I’ve only got into the whole urban music scene in the last couple of years so I don’t claim any great knowledge of the scene – I only just discovered Keri is a songwriter – I only ever came across her because of that Timbo’ collab. Plus you’ve now mentioned loads of other people I’ve never heard of – so its back to Google to look up Chrisette Michele, Ledisi, Ester Dean.
