Des’Ree’s incredible ‘You Gotta Be’ has the distinction of being this week’s From The Vault feature. The track was the lead single from her ‘I Ain’t Movin’ album and was originally released in 1994. This simple yet uplifting record peaked at #16 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #14 on the Official UK Singles Chart, impacting the lives of many during it’s stay on the charts. I miss songs like this!
Sounds familiar. Its O.K.
Man, I grew up listening to that song on the radio. I always liked it, but never knew who sang it, until I saw a parody of the video on SNL. Of course I knew it wasn’t the actual video at the time, but it helped me clue up on the artist.
I can’t find the snl skit, do you know what year it was on or a link to watch it?

Back in the day!
I truly miss the 90s, from growing up during the decade, the music during the decade, EVERYTHING!
There is truly so much good music that you could easily do a post like this at least every week from 90s music. Radio music was much funner (for lack of better words) back then.
This great inspirational song by Des’ree just adds to the greatness that was the 90s!
@number1k9
#CLASSIC RECORD! I wish there were more inspirational songs mixed into today’s radio formats.

Love Des’Ree. Some of my other faves are Crazy Maze and Kissing You.
I recently re-discovered this song too, it’s amazing. Des’ree was big in the 90’s, I sure do miss the 90’s… Remember her song, ‘life’?
I used to love this song!!! So uplifting! Props to Des’ree, she has a lot of good songs.
I LOVED THIS SONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was young at the the time but I loved it
Wow very cool to see this posted. I edited this video for Paul Boyd at David Fincher’s old company Propaganda Films. It remains one of my favorite videos I’ve had the opportunity to work on.
