I dont understand why people doubt Brandy vocal ability. Where in the heck have some of you all been? Brandy has always been a vocal beast. Monica and Brandy are my number 1&2 females vocalist. Brandy just messed up with her last cd Human. She wasnt in her element when recording those songs. Ive been a fan of hers since 1994 and Ive purcahsed all of her cds except Human. But this right here is the Brandy song I love. Hopefully she release a cd with these types of songs and more of what she’s used to releasing. Im all about growth too but I still want that Brandy flavor.

@Wonnie23, even though people slept on TMOM from Monica, I actually loved the cd. Monica should not have released “:everytime the beat drops” it shouldve been a B side to something else. Singles make or break artist entire cds. I’ve never been disappointed with none of Monicas music thus far.

I loooooooooove Brocka! She gives me goosebumps! I am so amazed by this woman and her talent. Her tone and just her clever way of singing a song is so engaging. I honestly don’t think any singer/perform gets in my spirit and grabs a hold of my emotions the way she does. This was a tease and I am hungry for her new album. Human was an inspirational album, but I’m glad to see her getting back to her gritter side. She’s absolutely phenomenal.

I like Brandy’s past hits. I also thought her last CD Human was good concept wise initially from the leaks but when I bought the CD it seemed like they switched the album’s direction at the last minute and the better songs were left off the album.

BTW: ‘Human’ is a VERY underrated album. It doesn’t have catchy songs, but it has substance and of course the best vocals.

And yes, Beyonce KILLS Brandy in the HIGH RANGE department and POWER department, but that’s it. Those aren’t the only aspects of great vocals, sweetheart. Brandy is more of a VOCALIST than a singer/performer. Not saying Bey isn’t a vocalist because she is, just saying Brandy is solely a vocalist, unlike Bey who’s both. Therefore, Brandy has mastered being a vocalist whereas Bey has mastered the performance aspect of vocals. High range, specifically is an aspect that not many great singers contain. I.e. Gladys Knight and she still has an amazing voice! But you’ll still think what you want, so carry on with your “Beyonce-gives-me-oxygen-to-breath” talk.

The Song Is Called “When I” it was included as a bonus pre order track for Ciaras last album fantasy ride..

@ Beyonce Childs, I have to disagree with your position on this. Beyonce is clearly an icon and without a shadow of any doubt a legend in the making. I’m certainly not taking anything away from Brandy she has done everything way before Beyonce came onto the scene( hit albums, dominated pop and r&b charts, cover girl ads, motion pictures, etc). Brandy is not limited to ONLY being a soulful legend, she was just as commercial as Beyonce and I find that they have alot in common. I don’t think it’s a bad thing to embrace what they have in common. They’re superior vocalist and their impact on the music world is huge. I recognize both they’re talents and I think at the end of the day they’re both going to be legends! Period!

I like this song already!!!! Im feeling the classic Brandy vibe. All of you who have slept on her album HUMAN need to go check it out!! Like someone else said…that album was very under-rated. I think the album was overshadowed by other events going on in her life at the time, which is a trend that happens with artists.
When an artist goes through something and it is made public, it affects the artist’s album sales, and the public ends up missing out on a good album. THE DEFINITION on the HUMAN albums is one of my favorite songs by ANY artist. That song was that good, but alot of people missed out on it because they didn’t get the album.
Same thing happened to Janet when Damita Jo came out. That was one of her BEST albums that she ever did but it was slept on because of her “situation”
Same thing happened to Michael. Im not sure why, but Invinceable, again, was one of the best albums Michael did since Off The Wall but it was slept on and people missed out on some beautiful music.
Same thing happened to R. Kelly. Because of his public “situation” people stopped buying his albums and missed out on great music. No one ever doubted his talent, but people still stopped buying his music.
Same thing happened to Ja Rule. He is an AMAZING songwriter!! Remember RAINY DAYS w/ Mary J. Blige?? Ja rule wrote that song by himself, I believe. He was on top of all the charts for a while until that fool that look like he can bite an apple through a white picket fence, came along and ruined everything for Ja.
See the trend? Then, music critics who listen to these albums are overly critical of the music because of the artists “situation” turning potential buyers off even more!! That’s why Im so glad Im not easily influenced like most people are. I have my OWN mind and march to the beat of my OWN drum and did not miss out on any great music because of public scrutiny.

Brandy can evoke emotion through the SOUND of her voice. THAT is talent. Her voice becomes a PART OF THE TRACK. It is so much more than just singing lyrics with Brandy. Listen to “Should I Go” & “Focus” from Afrodisiac and you will see exactly what I mean. NO ONE could have sang these songs like she does. She is a musical human being and that is something that nobody can take from her. Many singers do things that can be taught. There are only a few that are BORN to do it.
