This week saw the charts blessed with new releases from both Katy Perry and Fantasia. With expectations high for both, all eyes are on the ladies’ first week sales figures – Billboard‘s prediction of which has just been released.

Eminem will likely relinquish the No. 1 position next week to Katy Perry’s new “Teenage Dream.” Released yesterday (Aug. 24), industry prognosticators suggest that the set will likely sell in the range of 170,000 to 200,000 by week’s end on Aug. 29. Former “American Idol” champ Fantasia is seeking a big week too. Her third set, “Back to Me,” is on track for a sturdy No. 2 debut with a number in the range of 150,000 to 175,000.
Interesting numbers to say the least. While both figures are respectable (particularly in this day and age), Fantasia undoubtedly looks set to emerge the true victor here. Yes, she’s had unprecedented media attention as of late, yet that in comparison to Perry’s huge promotional campaign and worldwide smashes with ‘California Gurls’ and new single ‘Teenage Dream’ should have ensured the soon-to-be Ms. Brand higher first week numbers than that. At this rate, Fantasia could very well clench the top spot. Not bad for an outright R&B album, whose only released single (‘Bittersweet’) enjoyed all of its success on the Urban charts alone.

Carl is right, thats why Ciara & T. Mari are flops and Fantasia is a successful if country dumb talent. Props to Fanny, poor thang is trainwreck after I watched her Behind The Music show. She needs all the success she can get to boost that low self esteem of hers, raise that daughter she always forgets about and get those moochers she call family off her back. She should put her story into her albums like Mary, Faith & Monica do instead of using publicity stunts to sell it. But she is talented and deserves to be rewarded on that ALONE. I think it is impossible for Fantasia to be number one unless her label ships more albums out to retailers. Katy’s label already shipped out 200K units and plans on sending more by the end of the week.

I will be getting Fantasia’s new album…I love her voice. Anyway, her label better ship enough copies to fill the demand, and not do to her what they did to Monica. I had a hard time finding Monica’s CD during the first week of release, so I think that really affected her sales.

Wow I must say I’m shocked at Katy’s predicted numbers. Since the beginning of summer her new album has been over-hyped and it’s only predicted to sell about 200K?! I would’ve guessed she would do at least 300K. The sales look good for Fantasia who deserves it IMO. While my opinion remains strong regarding her recent s****** attempt, I must give her props for delivering ONE HELL OF AN R&B ALBUM. I haven’t stopped listening to it!!

The thing with Katy is that her single has been out for so long, both California Gurls and Teenage Dream have been enormous sellers. These weekly “promo singles” are selling truckloads too. If you click on the iTunes singles chart, nearly every Katy track is in there. I think she’s still seen as a singles artist by the public. Although these sales are great, and I can garuntee she’ll be a consistent seller.
Fantasia… wow. I love her, but expected less than a quarter of that. I’m thrilled. I’m definitely picking up a copy!
Katy is a singles artist like Rihanna. They do similar numbers in the first week but they release a lot of singles from the album until it eventually sells. We’ll see who eventually ends up with the bigger total album sales between Fanny and Katy after a year or so.

I don’t get how some people make ignorant comments when it comes to music without knowing all of the facts. Katy Perry’s last album did not even dent the top 10 that much two years ago and still went on to become multi-platinum. This day and age 150k and above is not a flop. I’m sorry but its not. The only people who have sold more this year have been Eminem and Drake. Everyone else has been selling regular numbers. A #1 album is a #1 album. Besides, she has staying power which is what really matters (ask Lady Gaga, she knows)

They are both good albums. I bet the majority of you people bitching about Katy haven’t even heard yer album yet!!! It is a good pop album. Meanwhile Fantasia has a great R&B album. They are two completely different sounds. It all comes down to preference. It doesn’t matter who gets #1 because in this day and age, those numbers are great. Its sad that the MONICA stans are kissing all up Fantasia’s ass.. Following EVERY article posted about Fantasia. (LOL) Monica had the same promo run as Fantasia. She broke up with Rocko the week before her album realeased, was HEAVILY promoted by BET (Hosted 106&Park) for days, CBS Early SHow, Twitter and everything else. Not to mention she had the number1 song in the country.
Fantasia has overcame the odds. With weeks, matter of fact MONTHS of bad press and A song that has barely cracked the Top 10 she has still maintained her fan base. So who is the bigger victor? FANTASIA.
Also, Fantasia has more stage presence and vocal abilities than DEEP VOICE MONICA will ever have.

To be fair yall keep mentioning Oprah. Fantasia was on Oprah back in February this is now August. Fantasia hasn’t even been on 106 and Park yet to promote her album.
Fantasia and Monica have great voices but very different albums. Why do yall keep comparing them? Both ladies should be celebrated. Monica’s “Love All Over Me” is about to be #1 and Fantasia’s Album comes in at #2 celebrate that.

Monica’s a sweet girl with a great voice. lots of singers have great voices so there is really nothing special about just having a great voice anymore. Since the hay days of Whitney, Mariah, and Celine, just having a great voice has become pretty damn boring. What makes Fantasia special is that she has a raw voice. Any singer can learn to hit a pleasant clear note with enough practice or training, which is why Opera singers don’t sell so well although they hit the highest notes. But that gritty raspy raw s*** Fantasia does is just beast mode. The way she mixes gospel/soul/rock is just F-ing genius. She’s got a gift to be able to do that.

Fantasia did not take advantage of her situation, she actually worked hard and produced quality material. The album is the best one to date that she has made and you can tell that she has grown. If you would listen to it, then you would understand why her CD came out #2. It had nothing to do with her personal life, I was going to buy it regardless of if any of those things occurred, because she is a great artist.
