Following a number of false-starts, Kelly Rowland has confirmed that her third studio album will not be hitting stores this year.

The news came during Rowland’s interview with Paper Magazine at a New York Fashion Week event this weekend:
Your new material continues to receive a ton of buzz. When can we expect the album?
Next year for right now. I’m still working on it. A friend of mine, Bryan Michael Cox who did Mariah’s “We Belong Together” with Jermaine Dupri — we’re all going back in the studio because they tell stories so well. So we’re going back in to write more stories. {Source}
If this isn’t an indicator that Rowland’s team have gone back to the drawing board Stateside (as in from scratch), I don’t know what is. Nonetheless, the latest delay could prove either beneficial or harmful to the project.
On the one hand, Kelly has hit the studio with some real industry heavy-hitters as of late (see: JD, Bryan Michael Cox, Tricky Stewart, The-Dream); a fact which bodes well for her chances of finding that US smash (something neither ‘Rose Coloured Glasses’ nor ‘Grown Woman’ were – unfortunately). What’s more, a successful album requires solid set-up – something a rushed release of her newly recorded material would not have allowed for.
However, in keeping it real, public interest can only sustain for so long. I mean at least Europe saw ‘Commander’ and now ‘Forever & A Day’ get the full single treatment (video et al); the US nothing.
Call it stanism or whatever you chose, but it’s all still to play for and Ms. Kelly can (and hopefully will) win. Yet, yours truly would be lying if I said this latest set-back didn’t make her uphill-battle that much steeper. It’s gonna be a long road. Are you riding with Kelly?

This is Kelly’s M.O. I’m dissapointed but not the least bit surprised. I just hope this does not turn into Ms.Kelly part 2; Kelly spends nearly a year recording, then in the final hour decides to “re-draft” the album in favor of what she thinks is ‘hit worthy’ material( “Like This”, “Ghetto”, etc.). We all know how that turned out. However, Kelly is under new management and backed by a new label. Hopefully this era will be the one that puts Kelly in the lane she belongs in; A-list solo superstar. If the label truly markets and promotes Kelly properly, things should pop off. It’s going to take a REAL set up though, they can’t just throw songs to the public in hopes that something will stick. They need to pick a single that they truly believe in, deliver it to radio IMMEDIATELY, film and release a video IMMEDIATELY and begin promoting and performing it IMMEDIATELY. Videos that have been shot should actually be released (Rose Colored Glasses, anyone). It’s time for Kelly and all of the people that are on her payroll to get it right. Hopefully, it will not take them another year to do that. Here’s hoping we’ll get an early first quarter release in 2011. Wow, 2011. You’re killing me Kelly. Your KILLING me!!

No one is to blame for Kelly’s pushback especially when she never solidified a release date. She only said Fall Release and now she’s saying next year. I love Kelly so much, but people are not going to be waiting forever for her new stuff. She needs to stop pushing things back, pick a date, and stick with it. The same thing happened with the Commander video. People were really feeling it, but she kept pushing the video release back. my advice to Kelly is to release the Rose Colored Glasses, Grown Woman, and Forever and A Day videos soon, since the former two songs have nbeen out for such a long time. Had she released the Grown Woman video sooner, tnat song could have been a smash here. She needs to PERFORM it too. She should go on lots more interviews and perform all her singles, and do one at a time to ensure each lives its life to the fullest. I CANNOT wait for her album, it’s going to be amazing, and I know she wants to get everything right. I like the idea of two versions of the album, but there should be like 14 songs on each and a deluxe version should have them all. Good luck, your the best!
This is a blessing in disguise, at least for Kelly – her fans on the other hand, we’ll see just how dedicated they are, and I am hoping that they are because she deserves the support.
On a different note, this should not come as a surprise considering how the album has developed over the past couple of months:
1.) It went from the album being a more international dance-oriented album, and now correct me if I am wrong, she is now considering releasing two totally different albums – one dance and the other more R&B.
2.) She has not decided a title to the album (clearly, because she has fully decided what the direction of her R & B will be; however, I am sure that the album she plans to release in the UK is done)
3.) She has began to enlist more famed-producers for her album, namely The Dream, Tricky Stewart, and Jermaine Dupri.
4.) She has changed her image (new haircut), and has began to make more appearances stateside.
Honestly, I am happy for Kelly, and I am looking forward to a thoughtful and purposeful album – which unfortunately was not the case in her last two attempts (Simply Deep and Ms. Kelly), both of which were poorly managed and promoted by a management team with alterior motives of sabotage (my opinion); but in the meantime, I would suggest that she continues to support the dance album as the UK has supported her when other’s haven’t, and I am sure that she will see success with this album. I would also encourage her team to relax before they release records, because I think that lately they have become over-anxious, and have decided to release or have her perform songs that they just recorded (i.e. Forever and a Day and I’m that Chick) which can dilute the fanfare for the album, and also confuse the audience. So, if I had my way (which is not reality lol), she would continue full steam ahead with the dance album with all the promotion and performances, and occasionally visit stateside (well at least almost as frequently as she visits now) as she records and completes her U.S album. Once her R&B album is complete she can promote in the US, because although it will be record-breaking to have two successful albums released at once, there is not enough pieces of a Kelly-pie to satisfy what is needed for two-albums. All in all, I’m sure that we will all be satisfied with the results. Team Kelly 🙂

Also, KEVIN, thank you for such an in-depth tutorial on how to make it in the music business. If only every artist had the sense to follow your unique and incredible ideas. I mean, why aren’t they? All they have to do is listen to you and they’ll be an instant success. EVERYONE could be an instant success! Why you’re not running every major label in America is simply beyond me.

I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! Once they pushed the album to November 2nd I knew that it was a no-go for this year. I think it’s a smart move because her album would easily get lost in the shuffle with the big 4th quarter releases. If anything, they should’ve pushed “Commander” more in the states and released it as planned in September. What a shame.
Come on Kelly. although I am not a fan of her music I am always happy when people succeed. I hope it happens for her soon.

album. Fantasia told everyone she was in the studio and a month later her album

Motown Universal has absolutely ZERO confidence in Kelly’s ability to sell records, other wise they would’ve spare no expense by lining up A-list producers to work on the album. Kelly has no sense of direction and is on a desperate journey to find a producer that will giver her a record that appeals to everyone.
Artists don’t normally release in the 1st quarter so if Kelly pushed her album back, then most likely we’re looking March-April release. Major labels try to get records out in the second quarter, and with the likes of Beyonce and other mainstream artists gearing to release albums, Kelly’s project is pretty much done with. PUT A F***** FORK IN IT.

Look at you trying to put a spin on this failure. You call Rihanna’s 3 million albums sold, and 12 weeks on top of the HOT 100 this year ‘moderately successful’ – whereas miss Rowland had a minor hit with Commander only in Europe – nothing else.
In the end, Sam – I’d say you’re part of the problem because you’re a bit of an asshole and you pimp her out so hard while crucifying Rihanna, Mariah, Christina, etc… People just associate all this negativity with poor Kelly. No one wants that look.

The album was off to a good start. I loved the Commander Remix, Shake Them Haters Off, and Grown Woman. Grown Woman was a hit in the making, but Kelly refused to acknowledge the single. Instead choosing to cater to her pop/international audience, who did not support Rose Colored Glasses or Commander very well.
I knew the album was in trouble when Kelly kept going around town making these mindless radio interviews. The radio interviews were sometimes over 10 minutes long. Her unnecessary chatter about everything but the album. If you are going to interview on the radio more than 3 minutes, then the DJ should be playing a sample of each of your songs while you describe its meaning. Instead, Kelly wanted to talk about DC and Bey, even against her fans wishes.
Speaking of fans, Kelly is always misleading her fans and she ignores what her fans want. For example, most of her fans, especially myself, wanted Kelly to stop talking about Bey and DC during her radio interviews so that we can support her as a single artist. Kelly kept ignoring our pleas.
Kelly misled us to believe that the Commander video would be different upon release, and it was the same video with a cleaner edit. Kelly told us that she was shooting the video for Grown Woman, and that video has yet to surface. We saw video shoots for RCG, so I guess that video will surface soon. Kelly made us believe that we would be a part of the album title, and yet she has not named the winner. She doesn’t put her fans as priority, because if she did, we would have had a video for Grown Woman and a new video for Commander.

With that aside, Kelly owes it to her fans to come out with a formal statement regarding the album cancellation, due to the fact that she dropped so many singles, radio interviews, listening parties, and international t.v. appearances, she got her fans amped for this album.
