Willow Smith sent the internet into a frenzy earlier this week with the première of her debut single ‘Whip My Hair’. Now the 9 year old daughter of Will and Jada Pinkett Smith looks set to set the charts alight, after the announcement that she is signed to Jay-Z‘ ‘s ROC Nation imprint.

Speaking on the signing of the youngster, Jay-Z said in a company press release:
We at Roc Nation are excited to work with Willow. She has an energy and enthusiasm about her music that is truly infectious. It’s rare to find an artist with such innate talent and creativity at such a young age. Willow is about to embark on an incredible journey and we look forward to joining her as she grows in all aspects of her career.”
Exciting stuff. While her age is somewhat a cause for concern (see: Hollywood), it’s hard to deny that she is a talented young lady. One whose unique image and skill beyond-her-years makes the possibilities for her as an artist that much more interesting. I said it once, and I’ll say it again, Ms. Smith is wiping the floor with with acts double and triple her age. Work!
Randomness: Gotta love how her team are keeping it age-appropriate too. For, despite being being a club-banger, ‘Whip my Hair’ is lyrically clean and lends itself to many a scenario – allowing it to be both age appropriate, yet relevant to all. It’s also refreshing to see a young act not confined to singing Disney music for once too.
