All those flashing lights, pretty colours and backup dancers could not distract from the fact that Rihanna can’t handle this song live. Her backtrack was louder than she was and for the few moments that she was audible, she was vocalising through her nose.
The least Rihanna could have done was try to dance to compensate for her sore lack of vocal ability. The again, I guess we should be proud that she didn’t put the mic between her legs and pretend to masturbate like she did on tour (even though that would have been a lot more interesting that the garbage that she displayed today).

I’m not gonna sit here and try to compare all of the female artists against one another. They all bring their own unique talents to the industry and should be commended on their own. This post is supposed to be about Rihanna’s live performance on X Factor, right? On that, everyone is entitled to their own opinions but there are a couple ones that only prove people just want to be haters. “Barely audible”??? You seriously couldn’t hear her singing? I think that’s a personal problem because I heard her loud and clear. Also, it’s one thing to just not like the sound of her voice in general. That’s fine. To say she didn’t do a good job singing this one live here is just plain idiotic. She sounded great and just as good as the recorded version. I almost think this site just thinks it’s cute to hate on Rihanna and will never give credit when it’s due. That’s cool. I can barely stand to read the posts or comments in general anyway. Understand something. Deuces was a song off of a free mixtape. It wasn’t even meant to be a single but charted all on its own. Rude Boy was a single that was heavily promoted, and charted and eventually went #1. But anwser me this…Where is Rude Boy now? The song sky-rocketed to #1 and fell faster than it went up. Deuces on the other hand is a slow burner. It took a minute to rise, but its still on the charts after all this time. So what does that tell you?

yea I’ll admit Rihanna isn’t the best live, tbh I don’t think she would make it top 12 on American idol, but she still my fave. But if I cared about singing I would watch American idol. It’s weird I love rihannas studio voice and her speaking voice but she’s just an ok singer. her music is magical though, I don’t get it. What kind of studio tricks do they got going on, cuz I have a feeling I’d sound phenominal studio wise. I can actually sing. 🙂 and I haven’t had any vocal training so I can just imagine.
I thought it was really good. She has so much swagger and her stage presence has gotten so good. I even thought the vocals were good. It’s pretty obvious that whenever you see a Rihanna post on That Grape Juice that there is going to be some shade being thrown. Oh well. In my opinion, Rihanna is a studio singer, someone who can cleanup very well in the recording process, as this is the only way she actually lay down a successful melodic foundation. The chief characteristic of Rihanna’s voice, is after all, a nasal emptiness that rarely makes room for actual feelings to bulldoze their way through. And not to mention the blankness of the vocal runs she attempts to refresh the musical formation, it sounds very strained and dull. I suggest this chick couple up with a good vocal trainer and develop a technical vocal skill because she has her work cut out for her. I’ll download LOUD! when it leaks on via Mediafire because I expect it to be nothing similar to its name…

Beyonce has never had a single which was #1 in more than 10 countries. “Beautiful Liar” was #1 in 10 countries while “If I Were a Boy” was #1 in 9. Her other singles have only reached #1 in about 5.
For Rihanna, “Umbrella” reached #1 in 14 countries. “Love the Way You Lie” was #1 in 21 countries (I’m including collaborations for both). “Only Girl (In the World)” has currently reached #1 in 7 countries and, based on current projections, will reach #1 in a few more countries by next week. It’s shaping up to be her second biggest hit from a single ever.
Now that the record has been set straight, Rihanna does have talent. People say that labels sign people who aren’t talented, but that’s not true, just so you know. It costs too much money to sign someone who doesn’t have talent. Rihanna has talent. Be real.
As fo Roc Nation, they don’t receive a large portion of her earnings. They actually receive less than her previous company did and they didn’t receive a lot. She also has Rihanna Entertainment and is able to own a lot of her music and releases. Film, music (touring), books, and a fragrance = money.
Beyonce doesn’t get much (really any) money due to Rihanna. It’s also kind of okay that her albums aren’t huge salers. The label gets all of the money from record sales.

Beyonce can stay around as long as she wants to. Lady Gaga is a fad right now but I think that she’ll be here for a long time. Lastly, I do think Rihanna will be around for a while. To be perfectly honest, Rihanna has never given an amazing performance and she never has had huge record sales but she’s owning the singles thing. Therefore, I do see her being around a lot longer. Unlike Beyonce, though, I don’t think she’s in control of when she can leave. It’s up to the general public.

That’s true. I remember for years and years Mariah was totally gone and out of the industry and everyone counted her out and she just reappeared fantastically. It was really awesome that the first single flopped, everyone counted that album out and she came hugely with the second single and sales. Too bad her follow-up-albums have been horrible.
I don’t think that Burlesque will flop, per say, but I obviously don’t think it will be huge. It’s a rental. As for her albums, I think that she needs to release an album in 2011/2012 that’s much better and different than Bionic.
I don’t think it was the 4 year span. Stripped and B2B were released four years apart but B2B was huge. It was just the wrong year to release Bionic and its promotion was poorly executed along with the wrong choice for a lead single.

Completely agreed regarding Bionic. Everything about that album was wrong. The creative direction, the promotion, the timing. It just wasn’t her. It’s like she was trying to be something she isn’t. “Stripped” and “B2B” were albums that were more true to her. Time span has nothing to do with why an album succeeds/flops. Michael Jackson always put out albums very sporadically, and they were all commercially successful. Sade took an entire decade in between albums, and look how well they do.
BTW, apart from the Shy Ronnie and Vincent Price sketches, SNL was awful last night. Well it’s been awful for quite a few years, anyway.

I thought it was cute and creative. I liked the whole dinner table motif, and vocally, she sounded good. I saw the SNL version of this song, and thought it was horrible, but Rihanna turned it around on X-factor. She needs to perform like this or better on AMA’s.

Sorry fans need to realize that performance was horrible! The problem is they pump this chick up to be something she is not, and that a real singer. She needs to stick to back tracks while performing and continue promoting make up. Why? Because she cant sing nor entertain. I remember back in the day when singers songs had real substance and you could feel the conviction in their voice when the sung it! Not one person can say this, she can sing better than anyone out there. Sorry this girl is fine as hell, but overall her vocal ability SUCKS! I am not mad because my favorite artist are legendary and have broken more records than any of these new chicks! None of these new girls will see their success NEVER, so no need to get mad. Do you hear the intro before they performed? Amerie, Rihanna AND Tierra Mari are all influenced by Bey and DC. So if Bey influenced Rihanna and you are calling Bey a fraud, then what would that make Robyn? This is why these stan wars(and I don’t like it when my fellow Bey fan base engage in it too), but you can’t compared a girl who has been in the industry a little over 5 years against someone who was on STAR SEARCH PERFORMING when she was only 12 years old.
