New Song: Cheryl Cole – ‘The Flood’

Published: Thursday 21st Oct 2010 by Sam

As the November 1st release date of Cheryl Cole‘s sophomore LP ‘Messy Little Drops’ draws nearer, its promotional machine has cranked up a gear – with the premiere of its second single ‘The Flood’.

Take a listen to the track after the jump…

Needless to say, the song is the dryness.com.

It really begs the question, though: despite having the multi-million pound machine behind her, why can’t Ms. Cole deliver solid material?

Clearly, the label are pumping money into her imaging and the producers she’s working with, yet perhaps it’d be money better-spent if they actually invested in some vocal lessons for her. They’re much needed. For once again, she sounds shrill and off-key many a time here. It’s as if she’s hell-bent on sounding like a raging hot mess. Then again, who wouldn’t be, if they knew they could do that and still go on and sell by the bucket-load. Welcome to the music industry 2010…

  2. cedric October 21, 2010

That song was torture. she’ll never make it in the us

  3. I-AM-MUSIC October 21, 2010

I love the lyrics, the melody, and arrangement the song sounds like Ryan Teddar wrote and arranged it, not sure tho. Now time for the not so good news, i felt she Cheryl didnt do the song any justice even tho the emotion was there she lacks the vocal skills to pull this song off.

Crap. Is this what the British like???

  5. Trent Is The Moron October 21, 2010

Yaaaaawn!!!!!! Is this some Taylor Swift b*******?? Sounds like something that no talent tweener country talk singer would put 2gether. Cole has an image problem. Last album she was this wanna be hip hop dance artist and now this LP she’s a damn country pop lip syncer. Which is it?? Once thing is for sure, stupid ass biatch wouldnt make it in the US, regardless if Simon Cowell dumps her on us in XFactor US. We have tons of white singers who do this kind of country poptart music already and she cant compete against the hip hop urban singers here either. Stay across the pond! Save urself the cost of a visa. NEXT!

lol at you morons criticizing the track. even with the post author’s clear hate for the amazing miss cole, the votes speak for themselves. not everybody can be swayed by your silly words, the music speaks for itself. you guys need to stop listening to s*** like taio cruz, khia and other n****** because its polluting your mind when you cant appreciate beauty like this.

  7. dave20 October 21, 2010

cheryl’s first ballad and pretty good track! loving it already. 🙂 love the lyrics and her vocals in the chorus.

  8. Fatima October 21, 2010

As I’ve said before, nobody wants sanctimonious “state of the business” s*** from someone who thinks Whitney Houston power ballads are the pinnacle of good music.

  9. Fatima October 21, 2010

Also laughing my ass off that someone here thinks this is country.

  10. angela landsbury October 21, 2010

hes just a moron who instantly dismissed cole after realizing she doesnt sound like ciara. thatgrapejuice is the same, stupid racist blog that cums whenever somebody irrelevant like faith evans or michelle williams put out 90s-style MOR R&B s*** but get all antsy when faced with british pop

  11. BlkBubbaWitBlueeyes October 21, 2010

The people in the UK clearly dont know what REAL MUSIC is. Thats why alot of their artist struggle to make it over here. We have very high standards, and even our worst artists are a million times better then alot of the acts you have in the UK!

…and as for people saying that this chick is very attractive, WTF? She look borin as hell, wheres the Ooomph, that vava voom? Loooooool.

Theres a million girls over here that are like her, if not BETTER. She wouldn’t faze us, because she is boring. Simon is outta touch if he think this trash if gonna be a hit over here… He needs to come harder or his career will be critical. She is not a good look for him.

    @angela landsbury
LMAO, you’re comment is doing WAY too much. Calm down with all of that racists BS.

  13. Carly October 21, 2010

I’m quite liking it but obviously Cheryl shines on uptempo’s more! But it’s a good attempt at a big ballad and she can sing – she did come from a singing competition if you remember. She’s a great performer and we need more of those in the UK.

And LOL at the person who said that the UK music scene is bad! I think our music scene is SOOO much more exciting than the US at the moment! SO many diverse acts are coming through that are creating hits ALL OVER the world! The most exciting thing to come out of the US at the moment is Wynter Gordon.

  14. John October 21, 2010

Obviously a lot of people here hate Cheryl, personally I’m not really much of a fan and am a strong supporter of Team Minogue, but this song is one of 2010’s best.

  15. True October 21, 2010

There are as many people in the UK the Love her as there are that can’t stand her, It’s a love hate thing in this country. There are lots of people that think she the nation sweet heart & then there are others who think she a no talent racist chav who relies on her looks, footballer wife status & x factor contracts to keep her heavily promoted even if she can’t sing one live performance to save her life.

  16. Timago October 21, 2010

I’m in the US, and I’m digging this song. I truly think it would get a fair amount of airplay on US radio.

  17. Ana October 21, 2010

Awful song by an awful woman.

  18. MUSIC LOVER October 22, 2010

Clearly some people have no idea what real music is. I love her new song and will be buying her album when it comes out. Cheryl has amazing talent, and is such a sweetheart.

  25. cheryl cole October 25, 2010

thankyou for all the nice comments guys 🙂
To thoese who say i can’t make it in the US. just sit back and watch me. I don’t rely on my looks and other things thankyou, nor am i a performing m*****. I make music that i love regardless of what people say even though its nice when fans like it. I’m not boring and i don’t see how you can judge that on a song when you don’t know the person, but i could be wrong. I love all my fans to peices 🙂 xxx
Thoese who hate me or don’t think i’ll make it WATCH THIS SPACE.
All my love to my fans and supporters chez xxxx

  26. Heather October 27, 2010

right, okay firstly – if Cheryl WANTS to make it in the US I think she will. If not then thats her decision. And I’m finding these comparison comments VERY rude. I live in the UK and we have great music. yeah the US have great music too, who’s better? cant say because, personally, music is music – not everyone enjoys all types of music. so what? just stop comparing the UK to the US – yeah we get it. for cake’s sake – they’re different countries. Kthnxbye.

  27. Kryso December 24, 2010

It’s a good song. But you’re all afraid to say so. Just go along with the report. Try a personal opinion. Herd…

  28. Jenna March 1, 2011

    @ANGELA LANDSBURY

s*** like taio cruz? maybe you should look into the amazing talent that is cheryl cole. You know that hit he had with break your heart? it was originally wrote for cheryl. When he didnt hear back from her record company, he went ahead and recorded it for himself. It turns out they did want the song for her but left it too late. he then went on to write some of her other songs.

So before you you start trashing somebody whos worked for their career, in aid of cheryl who was handed hers on the back of her looks, you should probably get a little more educated about her career before hailing it as real beauty.
