Here is the 1st track to surface from Drake’s ‘It’s Never Enough’ mixtape. The Noah Shebib-produced ‘I Get Lonely’ depicts the versatile rapper’s spin on TLC’s classic ‘Fanmail’. Check it out below:
Drake is definitely not a major vocalist but this is certainly a respectable effort. The tone of his voice is the key to his approach and it worked well with the dark and almost haunting production. Yes Drake rarely has the ability to deliver such performances live but in the studio he knows how to put his voice to work.

I really like 40’s productions (and I would love for CB to work with him) but Drake’s voice is starting to really bore me. He sings so much now in his rhymes that I don’t find it interesting when he does a full song singing.

I find this song to very dark – the heavy ominous drum beat isnt appealing to me at all. I will say THANK YOU Drake for actually singing and not rapping and not starting it with the usual vulgarities he likes to start EVERY song with.

Aww he remade one of my favorite songs by TLC. I miss them so much man. It doesn’t sound bad either, although I’m a bit jealous he’s remaking one of der songs. *sighs* I wish Left Eye was here so they could make another album. This was nice! I wasn’t expecting much, but his tone had depth and character. I prefer him singing and his melodies, than hearing him rap. It’s too bad he can’t do this live.

TRENT, you are so hypocritical. Here you are praising Drake for this mediocre performance on this song, of which HE COULD NEVER DO LIVE, but turn around a scorn Rihanna who has pretty good vocals and can DEFINITELY DELIVER LIVE!

In all seriousness, though, I gotta give Drake props on the choice to remake this song. He may not have the greatest vocals but the song “Fanmail” was always my favorite song on that (disappointing) TLC album and was, by and large, the BEST song on that album not released as a single…so I’m not going to be able to hate, even if I wanted to. I wish everything in this version wasn’t so monotonous sounding but I guess you can’t squeeze blood from a turnip, can you? Good effort.

I just hope he is paying TLC for singing their WHOLE song.. idk I love Drake but I am disappointed in this remake.. the only difference is his beat is much more smoothe while TLC’s had a lot of pizazz and sound effects.. The original 1999 song “Fanmail” is better and as a TLC fan I am not feeling it..
