Christina Aguilera and the promotional machine behind her movie debut ‘Burlesque’ have pulled out all the stops in ensuring the film opens to big box-office numbers this Holiday season.
After three days of playing to theatres across the US, the projected numbers for the movie’s first week figures ($) have surfaced.
Find out whether Ms. Aguilera’s recent career troubles are to be erased or further worsened after the jump…
According to Deadline, ‘Burlesque’ grossed $2.8 million on its first day of release last Wednesday; with the Thanksgiving weekend boost seeing industry projections placing its final 5-day Holiday run at #3 with $17.8million.
The movie’s predicament needn’t give fans nor critiques reason to celebrate…yet. For, the Screen Jems / Sony produced musical sits in somewhat of an indeterminate position. Put simply, the situation is neither black nor white; more a cloudy grey as at writing.
Why, you may ask? Well, ‘Burlesque’ cost the studio $50million to produce, hence in order for it to be pegged the hit Aguilera needs it to be, this figure (and then some) will need to be made back at the box office. Rare is it for a movie to recoup its entire production budget during the first week on show; rather ‘Burlesque’s’ success is dependant on its performance in the weeks ahead.
With an international release due next month and a string of promotional spots ahead, it’s all still to play for…
