Did You Miss It? Tamar Braxton & K. Michelle Re-Heat Beef By Trading Shots Over Black Artists in Country Music

Published: Monday 29th Apr 2024 by Rashad

Over a decade after award-winning songstresses Tamar Braxton and K. Michelle first locked horns, the R&B divas are still at it – this time rearing their claws regarding recent comments the former made about Black artists permeating the Country musical landscape since Beyonce‘s groundbreaking ‘Cowboy Carter.’

Details inside.

While chatting it up with the crew of the ‘We Sound Crazy’ podcast last week, Braxton was quizzed about her thoughts on ‘Cowboy Carter’ and Black artists in Country music overall.

“I think that Black country is so necessary. I’m so happy that people with talent, who can actually sing country music that are Black people, are finally getting the recognition they deserve,” she shared (as seen above). “I just really appreciate Beyoncé for opening the door for all the other Black artists that have rode that wave behind the floodgates.”

While the commentary started on a positive note, some viewers were triggered by Tamar’s later statement about those who are not “representing” the culture well.

“There are a couple of people who not have should been singing Country Black music that were awful and it was concerning for me,” she relayed. “I’m not trying to be funny; it just didn’t sound good. You’ve got to make sure if you’re going to step into a new genre of music and represent us…you’ve gotta right. You can’t be all autotuned down and flarp [flat and sharp at the same time].”

She never mentioned K. Michelle by name, but that didn’t stop the former ‘Love & Hip Hop’ star – who is making headlines for her strides in the Country music scene – from taking the disses personally.

That’s not all Michelle had to say.

“Y’all know I wouldn’t be saying anything. She knows exactly what she’s doing,” K. said in a lengthy comment to our friends at TNT. “She’s been going on for months now , well years, she’s just very hurt acting out . It has to stop TODAY. I don’t speak on her, about her, we just aren’t in the same circle. I don’t think of her. She continues to bring me up in some way, throw her shade, then play victim. I’m just not going to keep playing with her…LEAVE ME ALONE or else. I stand on that, you should try it. Your 9 whole years older than me, you should set an example of some sort.”
