Rihanna may have gotten loud on her new album but people still couldn’t hear her over other artists who could actually sing. For the 5th consecutive time in her career the vixen has failed to capture the #1 spot on the Billboard 200 as her ‘Loud’ LP debuts at #3 on the tally.
Susan Boyle’s ‘The Gift’ maintained its reign in the top slot this week with another 323, 428 units sold while Rihanna’s record, despite having a much larger promotional campaign, only managed to sell 206,018 copies. Although this is a career best for the Bajan, it was still not nearly enough to trump even Jackie Evancho whose ‘O Holy Night’ album comes in at #2, selling 239,453units.
Another notable entry on the chart this week is Nelly’s ‘Nelly 5.0’ which managed to secure the #10 spot with 62,454. Ouch.

Coming from somebody who works in the music industry, I have to say that 200k is far from a flop BUT for somebody with Rihanna’s status it’s very disappointing. With all of the promo she gets and the large fanbase she has, she should be able to pull at least 400k in her first week.
I think Rihanna is the kind of artist who will (always) be liked but not really the artist that the crowd will eventually respect and take seriously, despite the #1’s she gets.
Her vocal abilities and the way she presents herself has a lot to do with it.
But also the fact that she is very replaceable.
I have nothing against miss Rihanna but she just needs to up her game, not just change her look 24/7 but actually UP HER GAME. She’s very blessed with opportunities given to her and she shouldn’t take it for granted.

Rihanna has NEVER had a big album era other than GGGB. Bey has ALWAYS had big album eras. In fact, every album have gone at least 74 weeks on the charts(B’day 74, IASF 80 and DIL 100 weeks). That’s well over a year at least. The only album that Rihanna has anywhere in that range is GGGB(98 weeks and that’s with Re-releases).
Rihanna has big digital sales because starting from the year in which she debut(2005), digital singles started to become a big part of singles’ sales. Look at how Gaga’s sales have sold with just one album and an EP in the same article you posted. So even with that, Bey is RIGHT THERE with her with less albums and one of those albums being released when digital singles weren’t as prevalent.

So, what are you talking about? Here we go again, with these arm chair record execs who think they know how to run Rihanna’s brand better than Def Jam. Just like last year, with the Amazon.com promo, and all these jack asses coming out of the woodwork talking about, “Oh, she’s padding her sales with $.99 albums.”
Dead @ you morons. First of all, Rated R didn’t even sell well on Amazon during black Friday weekend. There were like 20 plus albums selling better than hers on that site when that promo was running. So, she didn’t even sell that many. The only album that was shifting major units off of Amazon was Susan Boyle with her hundreds of thousdands of pre-sales. Lady Gaga, Adam Lambert, Rihanna, etc. were selling in the US off of i-tunes and big box retailers.
And second, Nielson soundscan doesn’t even count deeply discounted albums that sell below half price of the going market rate. So that means $.99 and $4.99 USD albums couldn’t be used to pad her sales even if she them wanted to.

Retailers sell albums for $9-12, while the label only makes an actual profit of $6-7 per album. If they bought albums, they would be spending more money than actually profiting, which doesn’t make much sense now does it?

Record labels buy their artists own albums to have bigger opening sales so there is more hype in hopes of people going out and buying it. It’s a marketing ploy. The buying public has (and more than likely always will) associated sales and chart positions with quality and record labels know this. That’s why they do it.
And for those who say album sales don’t matter, yes they do. That’s where record companies get their most profit to keep funding your favorite stars and to pay for promotion for their music. If a record label doesn’t make any money, it will fold. With songs, you only get change in profit, with albums (depending on the price) you’re getting at least $6-10 per album. If it wasn’t for album sale,s the music industry would be pretty much dead.
Some people these days just don’t get it. If albums sales didn’t matter and only single sales did, then downloading albums (which most Rihanna “fans” did) wouldn’t be illegal.
All I know is, when my favorite artists come out with a new album, I’m not illegally downloading it. So why are Rihanna fans doing it? Especially if there so many? I know she has more than 190,000 fans in the US, come on.

If you were in the industry for 13 years wouldn’t you be doing that too.? Realistically beyonce’s fan base have been growing for 13 years, I would think she Should outsell rihanna. But in 5 years, Rihanna have held her own enough for people to always be comparing her to the veteran. So that’s great for Rihanna!!

This hater website seems to forget that this is Rihanna’s best sales week yet and at this rate, she will definitely have a number one album in the future. She was expected to sell 180,000 copies, lower than the 181,000 Rated R did in November 2009. So she did better than expected and everyone already knew Susan Boyle’s album, which is filled with Xmas songs, was going to top the charts, especially since she has a fan base that buys albums. Rihanna’s fanbase is largely young and ofcourse, we all know that they would rather download for free than pay for an album. But the truly great news is that this week Rihanna’s “Only Girl” became her 9th #1 Single on the Hot 100, the best of anyone since 2000….She passed Usher’s 8 #1’s since 2000. So Rihanna’s first two singles off LOUD hit #1, with “Only Girl” a worldwide smash…Her biggest worldwide hit since “Rude Boy”. Also, remember that Rihanna’s albums always go platinum. Rated R has sold over 1 million in the US and over 3 million World Wide, which was great considering it was dark and more introspective than antyhing she has ever done. So, I kno haterz will continue to hate, but look for at least five more hit singles from LOUD and overall sales of over ten million worldwide…in about a year. Give the girl some credit…I just wonder…Did Rihanna diss this site because this site seems especially bitter and mean spirited to Rihanna…I thought Perez’ Hilton was really hard on her, but this site is downright mean and borderline jealous and sexist.
