Last night saw MTV air their much hyped ‘Nicki Minaj: My Time Is Now’ documentary. Chronicling a summer with the Young Money Mrs, the hour-long feature captures Minaj rehearing for the VMA’s, lamenting on her BET Awards performance, recording the controversial ‘Romans Revenge’, her return to her native Trinidad, and many other intimate moments.
A great watch, I must say. Yet, one which certainly portrays Minaj as quite the diva. Whether that is for better or for worse is down to interpretation.

Loved the doco, made me love her anymore. Thought she came accross very personable and respected her drive to take care of her family, it was very sweet!

I love Queen Latifah, but I wouldn’t call her a mogul. Yes, she ventured into acting and commercial products, but she is not a Diddy or Russell Simmons, who I consider moguls. When Queen is acting or promoting products, she is still working for someone. Queen Latifah is not a brand. However, if there was a female rapper closer to being a brand, it would be her.

The documentary made me like her more as a person but I doubt I will ever like her as a rapper. I just don’t like her music. Its not a matter of hate or jealousy for you overzealous stans, I just don’t like the way it sounds. That is all.
I actually feel kinda bad for her, even when she’s smiling she looks sad. Perfect example of money buying shoes and wigs but not happiness. Money just gives you a better quality of life.
Did you grow up in a crack addicted family…there’s always sadness in the air. Fifty Cent always look sad to me also, being brought up with a mother who was a prostitute probably due to a drug addiction. That crack ain’t nothing to play with. It leaves a history of sadness.

This documentary was very nice and showed her personality. That’s said that she went through the immigration process and her father turned to crack. Growing up in a abusive household was very hard on her and she’s now able to tell her story through her music.
Sometime u gotta be demanding to make sure no one steps all over you.
I think she has a good balance.
Typical girly girl, with a hood touch and a strong mind.
Good on her and her music will not be everyones cups of tea but at least she the first female rapper to tap into the pop market sound with some of her tracks, which will work out for her on a international level rather than just mainly USA.
I prefer a more hardcore Nicki but i understand the experimentation and vision she has for her album.

I seen this last night and Lord knows I’m not a Nicki fan/stan, but it was rather interesting. I actually think it was a well-put-together documentary. I thought she came across as very sincere and authentic, which really surprised me because Nicki as an artist is VERY fake, IMO! And she looks just like her mother.

Anyways, this documentary was GREAT. Nicki’s music is great and then her performances are pretty good and when I watched her uStreams, I fell in love. I just love her personality and she is extremely articulate. She’s very correct about the whole male-female sexism in the industry. She’s also an extremely intelligent businesswoman, and I love that she strives to be a mogul.
Her family is amazing, too, and Iove that she is extremely family-based. She’s really an inspiration to me, and I love that she said she understands (like when people say no one understands). I LOVE THIS GIRL! LOL.

I also think that what she meant about the mogul thing and not mentioning Latifah was that Latifah did rap AND THEN film and the company. Nicki is after being a huge female rapper while starting companies, etc.
