T.I’s personal life may be in turmoil but his album sales are doing quite fine. The rapper’s new album, ‘No Mercy’, is set to debut at #4 this week on the Billboard 200 with sales of 158,100 copies. This achievement will give the ‘Castle Walls’ performer his 6th top 5 entry on the tally to date.
Things aren’t looking so merry for the Black Eyed Peas though. Their album is expected to drop from #6 to #19 with a staggering #52% decline, selling only 56,110 units this week.
However, the Peas aren’t alone on their downward slide. Kanye West’s ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ is scheduled to experience yet another sales dip of 35%, dropping to out of the top 10 to #13 with 68,747 copies sold. Nicki Minaj, on the other hand, should hang on at #6 with another 80,667 units in sales.
Nevertheless, all is not lost for the Urban artists this week. Both Rihanna and Mariah Carey will have upswings in sales by 8% and 11%, respectively. The Bajan’s ‘Loud’ is expected to sell 74,338 units while her idol, Carey, is set to have the highest single week figures of her ‘Merry Christmas II You’ record thus far with 67,018 sold.
Sidebar: There have been marked differences between the sales reported by Hits Daily Double and Billboard during the last few weeks. Hence, expect some of these figures to change when issued by the latter.

I agree 158,100 is an impressive number for a person in prison but the no promo argument I totally disagree. Atlantic has done a hell of alot of promoting for T.I. and it paid off. He has at least 5 or 6 magazine interviews that just came out. He did numerous radio promotion before he went in. His wife is even doing radio interviews for promotion. He just had a BET special with the mayor of Atlanta that JUST aired a couple of weeks ago. He is releasing these “prison letters” to the media like every two weeks. He currently has videos with Rocko, Chris Brown, The Dream, Keri Hilson, etc in rotation. I mean how can we honestly say he hasn’t gotten any promo. Most artist who AREN’T in prison have gotten alot less promotion. A hell of alot less. I applaud Atlantic for sticking by one of their cash cows.
Also, yes we are in the age of downloading but people are still buying records. Example: Lil Wyane the Carter III. How many mixtapes did lil wayne give away for the free before the Carter III dropped? He gave away so much music and the Carter III was still leaked before the album officially came out but people came out to support. Also, with Kanye West and this Good Music promotion. HE pretty much released his entire album song by song every Friday, but he still managed to get 500,000 people to go out and pay for it when it came out. Point: People have access to all types of music, it is dependent on the artist and their fanbase whether or not they will continue to sell records.

I am predicting this album will probably sell 3.5 to 4 million max without a rerelease, but who knows. She has never been a huge album seller. I won’t be surprise if Taylor and Susan sell in the 6 to 8 million mark without rereleases. Give credit where credit is due and stop making excuses on why your favorite artist isn’t dominating the album sales chart.

I am so glad that the Black Eyed Peas are not doing so well on the charts, that electronic crap they are trying to pass off as music is not worth any1’s money. Hopefully they go back to the drawing board and release something similar to M***** Business which was by far one of their best albums IMO.

Kanye West’s album was severely overrated, and I would not be suprised if Nicki Minaj manages to outsell him (in the U.S).
I can’t wait for the holy musical trinity of Beyonce, Britney and GaGa grace us with their new albums. This year was just musically bad.

I’ve heard mixed reactions about Kanye’s album, and the same goes with T.I.’s album. But for them both to not have had a hit song, their sales have been pretty good. I don’t like Taylor Swift, but she does sell albums and the same goes with Susan Boyle. Congrats to Mariah as well. I don’t remember who else was mentioned in this post, so…

I’m soo happy for Rihanna and Nicki. I don’t know why, im not even a fan lol, I think I just like to see people succeed especially black people like myself. The music industry is a though business so these ladies are doing very well!! kudos to that.
