Leona Enlists David Guetta For New LP

Published: Wednesday 1st Dec 2010 by Sam

Vocalist Leona Lewis has revealed that hitmaker David Guetta is to feature on her 3rd studio album.

Full story after the jump…

Speaking recently on UStream, Lewis confirmed the French DJ’s involvement with the project, revealing that she has completed a song for the LP with the ‘Commander’ producer for the LP.

As for when fans can expect the album, the follow-up to last year’s ‘Echo’, the X Factor star cited Summer 2011, cautiously adding that the project was in its “very early stages” and that she is currently experimenting with “different sounds”.

Here’s hoping the different “sound” she’s going for provides the right recipe; as after the Stateside disaster that was her last album, Ms. Lewis sure needs it to be.

While many pointed to poor label promotion, it’s important to not neglect the fact that ‘Echo’ was simply drier than toast. Boring and uninspired, on the merit of its material alone, the album’s performance (less than 200,000 sold to date in the US) mirrored its quality.

Still, hooking up with David Guetta this go round is a step in the right direction – and most importantly a step away from the Mariah Carey (early 90’s) clone she was being crafted into.

With Leona being blessed with a gift many could only dream of, she is a rarity in today’s over-processed industry. Hence it’d be great to see her matched with material which highlighted this, and which enables her to carve out a lane of her own.

Instead of doing TYPICAL electro pop that is rampat on radio, why not do something completely UNIQUE Leona? She is so desperate

I actually loved “Echo.” But, I hope this new album is not a recycled sound. Once a producer gets hot, everybody & they mama wanna hop up on. David Guetta is Kelly Rowland’s premier producer, everybody, 3rd cousins, & mama’s need to hop up OFF!

    @ JENEIL

She is not desperate. Unlike other artists i know who have to show flesh just to cover-up their voices that can’t sing.

i’m just afraid that by the time the album drops Davids’ sound will be passé. Looking forward to new material though.

    @ DAVE

I also do love her 2nd album (my fav. is “Can’t Breathe”) but the her debut had more variety.

I loved Echo. A very underrated love album. It was one of the best albums in 2009, compared to a lot of generic albums that came out.

She does ballads, no one is happy. She tries to step out the box, and experiment with some fun dance music, and no one likes that.

I’m sure Leona will make her album diverse. Give her a chance, I’m positive that she will do all types of genres, in order to make a successful album, and make some dinero people.

Give her a chance to step out of the box.

@ CG Girl, you right on!

“Echo” was amazing. She sings about heartbreak and her emotions are felt raw through her songs. She’s not for everyone, that is evident by this site who likes to listen to soulja boy.

I bet trent and sam never even listened to the album all the way through. The UK version of the album, not the U.S. version.

yes i agree shes not for everyone and her album sold over 200,000 in the us get youre facts right and she manged to sell more than 2.6 million WW with out a hit and only two singles why pepole always bashing echo its an amazing album leona writing is amazing pepole always sleep on her talent shes one of the few pepole that can sing working with david is a great idea i can’t wait to hear new music from her

  15. MUSIC LOVER December 1, 2010

I was hoping Leona, one of the FEW artists that can SING wouldn’t resort to making electropop dance music! 🙁

  16. ERIC December 1, 2010

LEONA + GUETTA = A DANCE FLOOR BOMB!

  17. Jamie December 1, 2010

Something tells me, she’ll still be as boring as she is now. Every time I see a picture of her, I immediately become irked. She’s just blah.

  18. Teflon Boy December 1, 2010

Loved her on the X Factor but so far her music has been so white-washed that I don’t relate to her output whatsoever…, why is Cher Lloyd allowed to be urban but Leona isn’t? Fair enough Leona has the vocals for great ballads but if she’s good enough to sing with Lil’ Wayne on an award show then why isn’t she allowed to have more interesting beats and more potent lyrical content for her own music or at least have her ballads be original songs rather than covers? Personality-wise she doesn’t need to come across like the life and soul of the party but if the music’s good and collaborated with the right people then anything’s possible. My thoughts are that she simply isn’t strong enough to put her foot down or savvy enough to know what’s hot to be a part of. Sorry but David Guetta is soooooooo 2010, he’s gonna be dated by 2011, Leona would be better off looking for the next David Guetta…, a producer who can make the dancefloor move but has a darker more underground edge because it’s not her commercial appeal that’s in doubt it’s her ability to make relevant music that can kick it with the cool kids.

  19. MissImpartial December 1, 2010

All these r’n’b artist who are doing dance are killing the urban sound. Nothing against dance as i liked it before everyone jumped on it killing its originality. Do realise that there are no black artist doing good recently except beyonce not counting rihanna as she is pure pop. It used to be ciara, beyonce, ashanti, j.lo and missy representing the r’n’b hip hop sound but we do not have them buring up the charts except beyonce. By the way i am not trying to turn in to a race issue and do not think that it white people should be blamed for it. I just think urban radio and pop radio need to support these acts a bit more as they never put them on their play list. Anyone aggree?

  20. Liz December 1, 2010

    Excited for the new album!
    Love Leona!!

  21. Teflon Boy December 1, 2010

@MissImpartial…, I definitely agree. Rnb pretty much no longer exists, especially in light of what now passes for Rnb on those Compilation albums. it was different story before 2000 because although Rnb was always an ever evolving art-form it was still controlled, ate up by and predominantly loved and supported by the urban community, not to mention the artists themselves got to do make the music they loved. Nowadays it’s a completely different story. It’s commercial success has completely ruined Rnb, the mainstream having enjoyed the best of it milking it’s best producers for all they were worth and now left us with no sound of our own and Rnb a shell of it’s former self. Now black artists are generally trying to make pop theirs but it’s like a bunch of square pegs in round holes. It’s sad.

Don’t be too sure about that. Yes Leona hasn’t sold her ass… yet. I used to admire Leona for her class and being reserved but then I read an article about a week ago where she got drunk in a club, danced on a table, and shouted to some celebrity female how she always had a crush on her. In the article it mentioned how this was a surprise, not because she’s so reserved, but because she said that SHE DIDN’T LIKE HOW PEOPLE ACTED WHEN THEY GOT DRUNK AND THOUGHT IT WAS STUPID in an article before this incident. What a hypocrite? She also said she doesn’t have a problem with nudity but just doesn’t feel the need to show off her body or be half naked and with up-tempo music, I’m wondering if she’s going to decide to show her ass and tits. Leona’s got a great voice and I loved her first album, but she’s boring now. She doesn’t need electro, techno, or dance music but something new and fresh. I agree that R&B is pretty much dead. Who’s left? Keyshia Cole, Jasmine Sullivan, Mary J Blige??? Even pop music has gotten to POP AND BUBBLEGUM THESE DAYS.

  25. kersley December 2, 2010

  26. BEEGIRL December 2, 2010

LEONA IS BORING, EVERYONE KNOWS THAT, SOMETIMES SHE ACTUALLY HAVE NICE SONGS, BUT THAT’S ALL, SHE’S A DISASTER WHILE ON STAGE….
AND ABOUT DAVID GUETTA…REALLY DONT KNOW… HE’S AN HOUSE PRODUCER, WHICH MEANS YOU NEED TO HAVE POWER, PRESENCE, AND BE ENERGETIC WHILE PERFORMING THOSE TYPES OF SONGS…SOMETHING THAT LEONA IS NOT…
I KNOW PEOPLE SHOULD CHANGE… BUT LEANA…SHE HAD 2 ALBUNS TO CHANGE THE WAY SHE PERFORMS AND ITS ALWAYS THE SAME….
