Nicki Minaj sat down with the New York Times for an in-depth interview recently. The rapper spoke about a wide range of topics including her various personalities as well as her thoughts on how Lil Kim’s crusade against her is actually making it harder for women to win in Hip-Hop.

That brings up an interesting point because I would be pretty remiss not to mention your spat with Lil’ Kim. When she badmouths you and others doesn’t that just make it even harder for female rappers?
It does, it does. But the thing that I want to promote is that if you see someone doing their thing, give them their props. We all have it hard and face the same challenges as female emcees. Show some mutual love and respect for each other so that it doesn’t get nasty. And she can be a nasty character.

I’ve heard all of Nicki’s mixtapes, and she only bashed Kim a little bit. Every female/male rapper gains notoriety by doing that. Do your research.
But in interviews and performances, where it counts much more, Nicki talked about how much she loved Kim and how much Kim inspired her. Kim loved her too, until Nicki started having success.
Yes, Foxy told Nicki that Kim disliked her, but Nicki did not believe what Foxy said until she heard what Lil Kim had said in interviews and such upon Nicki’s success building.
Kim is JEALOUS of Nicki’s newfound success. Kim then started bashing Nicki in early 2009, and Nicki stayed silent about it until she made references to her in a few songs and finally released “Roman’s Revenge” and talked about her with Angie Martinez, which set Kim off with “Black Friday”. And now, this.
Kim liked Nicki until Nicki had success. Don’t get me wrong, Kim is a great rapper, but what she’s done lately is just sad.
And Kim’s new album title? “Hard Core 2: All Hail The Queen”? First of all, good job on Kim for copying Queen Latifah. Second of all, since when is Kim the “Queen” of anything? That title belongs to Latifah, Lauryn, or Missy depending on your opinion.

So? Practically EVERY rapper – male or female – gains notoriety by first insulting the other rappers in the game. It’s just how it works. Nicki once dissed Lil Wayne, and they’re extremely close. Kim actually knew of those songs but liked Nicki anyways because Nicki wasn’t successful.
Once Nicki earned success, Kim was jealous so she started insulting Nicki everywhere and said Nicki never paid homage when that is ALL NICKI DID in interviews. Then Nicki finally responded in “Monster”, “Roman’s Revenge”, the Angie Martinez interview and now this. Kim released “Black Friday” but that song was pathetic. Kim doesn’t even have a label and she’s just riding Nicki’s success before she drops Hard Core 2.
Every female rapper has praised Nicki EXCEPT for Kim. Nicki, at first, insulted the same female rappers who know praise her today. Kim just can’t handle the fact that she’s not topping charts right now like she once did.
By the way, Nicki could have responded to Kim. Listen to Nicki’s mixtapes, and “Monster”, and to “Roman’s Revenge”. If “Black Friday” has lyrical content, then I’m the Queen of Shiba. Also, how the HELL do you go around saying that Kim and Nicki are the same age when Nicki is TEN years younger?
The reason that Nicki said “when I see your name on Billboard I’ll respond to you” wasn’t saying that Kim’s never been on Billboard, genius. Nicki knows that Kim has topped tons of charts but she’s saying that Kim hasn’t hit a chart for almost 2 years and that’s why she said that. Kim is a HAS BEEN. She could make a comeback, but she’s overshadowing any possibility of that with her constant focus on Nicki.
Kim has said she doesn’t care about Nicki. If she didn’t, then why doesn’t she just let it go and release her album which will be her first since 2005? Kim hasn’t had major success since 2003.
Also, Nicki’s album is MILES more lyrically content-including than Hard Core. How are the topics of s**, drugs, and crime more lyrically fantastic than the lyrics of heartbreak, self-hatred, life experiences, and personal struggles?

I just don’t understand how anyone can actually come to the conclusion that Nicki is better than Kim after listening to both of their music. Not to mention, many other female rappers like Eve, Mc Lyte, Lauryn Hill, etc. Nicki has an interesting flow and that’s it! Yes, she does have some great verses but overall, No ma’am!

For all you Nicki d*ck riders, Nicki started the beef with Kim. Go check out the diss Nicki did towards Kim when she was with the group Hoodstars before she even got signed. She called Kim out by name. Now she is trying to act innocent. Too late to call for unity. Also as has been pointed out, Ray J is the one that called out Nicki on stage before Kim took the mic. Kim did a few interviews on the subject after that and let it go. Then 6 months later after throwing subliminals in songs toward Kim Nicki releases Roman’s Revenge a week or two before the album drops? Kim had already let it go. Nicki says it wasn’t about Kim then says it was. Then Kim KILLS her on Black Friday. Nicki is not this sweet innocent angel. She is bipolar and it shows. She is lost and I feel sorry for her. She is not built for the game. Noone respects her which is why all the chicks are coming at her like they are. No chick in the history of hip hop has been treated as bad and Nicki is nowhere near top ten of the best female emcees so it’s not jealousy cause at the end of the day Kim’s and Foxy’s resume still look beter than hers. You can sit on here and brag about her album sales but to me, she flopped. She had three years worth of promotion, is the only female in her lane and only had to compete with Kanye. She has a huge female, youth and gay following which should’ve put her over the top. She should’ve at least did better than Drake’s first week numbers whose album leaked weeks before it was to be released. She released the album during the perfect time of the year and even dropped the price to 3.99 at one point on Itunes and I think 7.99 on Amazon and she still couldn’t go gold. Somebody on her team needs to be fired. Kim and those girls back in the day had to compete with each and knock each other out as well as the guys such as Pac and Biggie and were still able to sell millions. Why are yal so focused on first week sales when you should be worried about the end result. You sound so ignorant with your Kim and whoever else is jealous of this girl when Kim released more than one album that went at least plainum over a seven year period. And oh BTW, Pink Friday is garbage. Hardcore bodies Pink Friday. Pink Friday will never be in the comepany of classics like The MisEducation of Lauryn Hill, Hardcore, Ill Nana, Supa Dupa Fly, Ruff Ryders First Lady, and etc. It is by far the worst debut for a female hip hop album in the past 10 – 15 years. At the end of the day Kim has still accomplished more than Nicki. I believe her problem with Nicki is for the reasons she’s given and not just about the image but everything t do with Nicki’s mouth.
BTW some are saying Missy was on top yadda yadda yadda so why would Nicki diss Kim? That’s because Missy was NEVER looked at as being the Queen, she has always been underrated. And with that I can use this argument, if Missy was the last one on top then why didn’t Kim beef with her? Kim embraced Missy you clowns like she does everyone. Nicki came at Kim in the same way Remy tried to come at Kim. Kim is the one most of the rap chicks have tried to model their style after, not Lauryn Hill, MC Lyte, Latifah, and etc. That’s why Nicki posed liked her, redid her songs, and is now mimicking her whole style. Kim has always been known as QB and with Kim and Nicki both being from NY it makes sense why Nicki would see Kim as the one she needed take out. You come in the game one of two ways -using your talent or through dissing and go for whoever is at the top. Nicki chose to diss. Now, Like I said, go check the song where Nicki calls out Kim by name on youtube when she was with the group Hoodstars. You can’t tell me after that that any subliminals she throws especially on her mixtapes after that are not directed towards Kim. And what’s crazy is even knowing that, Kim still chose to embrace her once she got with Young Money but Nicki had other ideas.

At the end of the day, Hard Core is a classic album. Pink Friday is simply garbage. Nicki has TONS of work to do if she thinks she’ll be remembered in 10 years. Your legacy as an artist depends on whether or not people will want to hear your music in 10 years, and even as a fan a Nicki, i must admit that I don’t care if EVER hear a song from Pink Friday again.

I love Nicki and she definitely has a good point. However, I find it a little hypocritical for her to be criticizing Lil Kim for attacking her, when a good portion of Nicki’s early music is devoted to attacking Lil Mama.
see the most amazing thing about roman’s revenge is that talking about ppl subliminally is like the double edge sword, because you make ppl show their insecurities by speaking upon something that probably wasn’t talking about them. Kim basically showed just how insecure she was about her spot in the game because if she thought that the song was about her then she is owning up to being a has been as nicki says in the song. well to be honest ithought nikki looked up to lil kim cause the swagg is all lil kim yhe hair doo’s lil kim i have no hatred against niether but lil kim is still the beat and wiil always remain the best besides shawanna and trina.
Nicki’s story is plain and simple. She loved Kim she was inspired by her and she said it constantly. She mentions Kim’s name in songs as one of the best along with Foxy. And that she apologized if Kim ever thought she was talking about her but she let her know that she was. This had to have been true other they would have never done a track together. All this subliminal crap is just Kim assuming she’s the one being talked about. Old b******, not writing their own bars etc. If she didn’t assume that she was the topic on everyone’s mind then their wouldn’t be a problem. I can’t go by Kim’s story because in her story she says Nicki has been dissing her but at the same time she did a song with Nicki. Then when the song was cut she says Nicki started with the “subliminals” again. Then she STILL wasn’t going to say anything until Ray-J said something. Ok, well seeing as Drake was the one who defended her and Nicki never came back with a reply it doesn’t make sense as to why Kim would suddenly go all in on the swagger jack b*******. She knows she’s paid homage we all know she did. So her real point is the dissing right? Well how can you create an entire beef strictly off of assumptions that someone is talking about you?
