2010 has truly been a year full of surprises and just because it’s about end doesn’t mean that they shocking moments have begun to dwindle. Despite having considerably smaller promotional campaigns, Jamie Foxx and Keyshia Cole’s latest releases are on track to outsell Keri Hilson’s ‘No Boys Allowed’!
Foxx’s ‘Best Night of My Life’ and Cole’s ‘Call All Hearts’ are both projected to debut with 120-130k in sales on next week’s Billboard 200 lineup. Hilson’s album, on the other hand, is predicted to sell only 90-100k.
However, while Hilson’s figures are somewhat underwhelming in relation to her several promotional appearances – Vh1’s ‘Divas Live’, ‘Lopez Tonight’, ‘106 & Park’, ‘Black Girls Rock’ and more – these numbers indicate that she will sell almost triple what Ciara’s ‘Basic Instinct’ achieved after debuting with only 37k units sold this week.

At the last comment Key has a set fanbase..I think her main audience is between African American females maybe around the ages of mostly mid 20’s to late 30’s..somewhere along that line..so I don’t think twitter matters..take Soulja Boy (2million followers & sold 13,00 copies & even Ciara so no way). Futhermore, Keri numbers are good for a sophmore LP, not huge like her promo was..but something about keri that dosent grab my attention. It may be a case of slowly rising instead of selling huge numbers like Ashanti(5mill) debut, and even Ciara w/ Goodies..and sometimes the artist has nowhere but to go down…but then again you have artist such as Alicia Keys who has great numbers since her Songs in a Minor days..and she hasn’t had to show the world her underwear….sadly, I don’t think Keri has that big it factor, after seeing her live it was like watching paint dry on a wall….congrats to the black artist though….also, keri’s fanbase is more then likely a lot of teens and young adults who probaly downloaded the album for free….well

Poor Keri Hilson. All the promotion fails to pay off. Still, those are good numbers for her since she isn’t that popular of an artist. At least she manages to release memorable singles. Last album she had “Knock You Down” and this time around she has “Pretty Girl Rock”. Even if she doesn’t sell albums, she still leaves her mark. She should be proud of her accomplishments. Keyshia Cole, with little promotion, did extremely well, I think due to her loyal fan base. The most surprising, to me, is Jamie Foxx. Good on him tough. Keri is doing just fine. Although, I think it’s so sad that she outsold Ciara.
Keyshia and Jamie have no hits so I’m shocked to see they are going to sell that much.
It doesn’t matter though. Everyone who released albums BEFORE and AFTER Taylor and Susan will completely fade off the charts by February 2011 tops. Those two are the only ones I see who will continue to SELL BIG NUMBERS into 2011 and still do well once Gaga, Britney, and Beyonce release their music and dominate the charts. Bring on 2011 already because these last few months’ album releases have sucked and are totally forgettable!
I’m not too shocked that Keyshia’s pulling those numbers. First of all, she has a STRONG fanbase. Keyshia hasn’t had a HIT single since her second album but she always pulls good numbers because of a strong fanbase. I also do think that the performances helped. Maybe appearances are great and interviews are helpful but performances give people a glimpse of the album and boost sales more than plain interviews do.
I don’t understand the Jamie Foxx sales, though. He’s had absolutely NO promo for this record and the last single from this album to do well on the charts started to lose success in JUNE. I guess he has a stronger fanbase than I thought he did.
Also, about Keri’s numbers, I must say that it’s not surprising to me that she’s selling the same number of records this time as last. Keri hasn’t pulled ONE hit single from this record thus far and I don’t think her fanbase is very strong but her promo campaign was amazing, so that’s why she’s pulling such great numbers as opposed to the 20k area we’d expect.
Keri’s numbers aren’t great, but they’re good for an album without a hit single and an album that had next-to-no anticipation up until the promo campaign kicked off. Singles help, but they aren’t everything.

Keyshia is yet to have a huge hit outside of the US… these sales are for the US only, and Twitter is a worldwide thing. Keri is pretty big in Europe (thanks to ‘Knock You Down’ & ‘I Like’) which is why she needs/must release ‘Lose Control’ as the next single. It’s similar to ‘Te Amo’ mixed with ‘I Like’. It’d do well! Her numbers are VERY healthy, though. Here’s hoping for it to be a consistent seller, just like ‘In A Perfect World…’ was 😀

Oh before I go… I wasn’t expecting the Battle to be between Jamie & Keyshia… I Thought Jamie’s album got released LAST WEEK! I was really thinking the battle was going to be between Keri & Keyshia…. But Good look to everybody!
I agree with the other posts, in that I would still consider this a respectable result for Keri Hilson. It’s all about small victories at this point for Keri, and if nothing else, she should feel proud that she supported and received the support of her label for this album when other artists did not. More importantly, Keri should really be proud that through her promotion she actually opened herself up to other markets. Via her appearance at Diva’s 2010, GMA, Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, and a number of other popular late night shows, I would argue that promotion was more important than sales in this case in the sense that her promotion might make her a household name – which I would argue is what kept the other albums (Jamie Foxx and Keyshia Cole) afloat despite poor promotion.
But I must also say that the value of records sales has been diluted in this digital-download era where it is a poor gauge to determine an album’s success. Looking at the numbers, it would appear that she might not have reached the numbers that were expected of her, but at the same time that does not mean that her album has not been downloaded or purchased illegally- the point being, sales do not accurately reflect how an album is being received by fans. Conversely, how many albums have been released which appeared to have not received any fanfare, but yet and still they go on to be platinum albums (i.e. Rated R) – numbers don’t mean anything! It’s a shame that we’re in that day in age where people do not have to support artists to enjoy their music; and honestly, I believe that even those for-pay download centers (i.e. iTunes, Napster, etc.) also foster an environment where people do not feel inclined to purchase a full album – the record industry is not what it used to be, and I just think that record sales is a dated way of looking at a situation that is far more advanced and complicated than just sales…
But all in all, I really enjoyed Keri’s album, and I know that she will get her just due for the hardwork she put into this album. Keri should keep on polishing her acts, and consider a tour because I am sure that people will be interested in seeing her perform.
I DON’T THINK THIS HAS ANYTHING TO DO WITH HAVING A STRONG FAN BASE. IT’S THE HOLIDAY, AND PEOPLE ARE GONNA BUY ALBUMS (WITH THE EXCEPTION OF CIARA). IF THIS WERE ANY OTHER MONTH, NEITHER KEYSHIA, JAMIE OR KERI WOULD BE PULLING THESE NUMBERS.

Rihanna has 5 albums and none od them have been #1 & bey 1st cd alone outsold all rihanna albums. Bey has 16 grammys and no other female artist has won 6 grammys in one night so sit ur dumb a** down. Beyonce is the most successful black female artist of this generation & everybody knows this.
Alicia’s last album flopped ? Really, it sold almost 1.6 million and will soon be elgible for a 2x platinum certification yet thats a flop? Shut that stupidity up. I’d like to see Beyonce’ push almost 2 million without a major Pop hit. Alicia’s Unthinkable’ was the biggest R&b hit out.
Rihanna is a singles seller, and that is particularly due to the fact that she does’nt have much depth to her music. She caters to a particular demographic. Keyshia has a strong fanbase, she and Jamie so i knew she would still do good. Keri’s numbers are good for her.

These predictions are really good for Keri; I know people hate on her. However, this girl really deserves because she works her ass out and puts lots of energy into her music.
I didn’t care for Keyshia’s album (Even though I’m in love with “Last Hangover”). Keyshia has some loyal ass fans though and they will stick by her until the end. I’mma need Keyshia to get a divorce and start putting out good music again! Nah, I’m jp….however, usually hurt and pain leads to awesome songs and albums.
Jamie album is OK, but nothing special.
Keri’s album is awesome and you can tell she put lots of work in it. The other two felt rushed and filled with fillers. However, I expect decent sells for them all (even though I didn’t know Jamie had an album coming out until like 2 days ago).
I think Keri could outsell both with Jamie coming in the lowest. Ciara’s album is HORRIBLE. I feel for the 37,000 people who did go out and buy it because that’s money wasted.
I don’t think that’s surprising. Jamie and Keyshia have pretty dedicated fanbases. As a matter of fact I was expecting them to do a little more than that. Keri will be off to a good start. Her debut did about the same so at least she’s consistant.
what does ciara have to do with keri sales and the comparison. if you add up caira sales in all the countries she got released in then she did more than 100k too. the point is ciara’s circumstances werenot similar to keri’s or keisha. so no i’m not mad i’m happy for them but their goal is not ciara goal. ciara could have easlity not given her fans BI and followed label instructions but even knowing what would happen she did it. keisha and keri are not her competition. they still haven’t reached her level of success. at this point in ci’s career she’s setting her eyes on something way bigger and this is just the beginning. trust

Ok people when it comes to sales there are 3 basic factors in determing an artits sales……sucess of singles going into album release;fanbase/name status and promo. Though promo is iffy because not being an established act and/or not having a hit,then there isnt much to promote.
Kanye West:.zero hits,minimal promo but he is a huge name…..opened with gold numbers
Nikki:not much of an established fanbase(1st album),no hits but huge promo/buzz…..opened with 375k
Rihanna: One of the biggest musical acts in world,good promo and 2 numbers singles…..barely pushed 200k
Kells: Strongfanbase,no hits no promo…..opened at 150k +
Keyshia:Strongfan base,no hits,no promo……130k+
Diddy: Not much of a fanbase,a few minor hits but ,MASSIVE promo…..opened at 110k
Keri: No fanbase(not a household name),no hits but nice promo…..around 100k
So that just shows how Keri with no real hits, and not much of a fanbase but still being able to pull off 100k is quite impressive…in retrospect Keri did almost half as much as Rihanna(and Keyshia just 60k less) despite Rihanna being 5 cds deep, a huge act and having to numbers 1 still barely pushed 200k,so Rihanna stans shouldnt even be in this thread talking s***!
Also some artists like Mary J,Alicia,Kanye,Kells,Keyshia, are always gonna sell even with no singles sucess or promo simpily because they have loyal fanbases. Though Keyshia’s numbers are pretty low compared to her last few releases(then again she is coming in with no charting single nor any promo plus lots of true R&B competition in Jamie,R Kelly,Kandi,Tank,Jazmin plus Keri and Ciara so actually 130k isnt so bad)
@Jon i agree to you Keyshia Cole is not famous worldwide while Keri Hilson do.In Singapore,where i live,more people know Keri Hilson than Keyshia.Ciara album FLOP.SAD FOR HER.She dun even chart in uk chart.but at least for me,i had bought Ciara Basic Instinct album,Keri Hilson No Boys Allowed Album and Rihanna Loud Album.AT LEAST I SUPPORT THEM.HAHA.
