Also, it’s a bit different to make a song about sadomasicism than make a video about sadomasicism. To be a bit less vulgar, it’d make sense for the video to be sexualized but still playful – like the Playboy bunny outfit, this outfit, the ice cream and heart eyepatch.
Truthfully, who DOES make a video related to the songs anymore? The “Hard” video was military-inspired to fit with the Rated R edgy theme (though I agree that something like this only darker could’ve worked), but there’s nothing on Loud addressing her haters, and it seems she wanted to do this. It’s certainly a bit unexpected, and that was the point of this video.

First of all, you don’t have to write the songs to have a part in an album. Rihanna is THE one who plans all of the album’s imagery, sound, etc. Much like Beyonce, Rihanna tells producers and songwriters exactly and specifically what she wants an album to sound like and they create it for her. Also, when GGGB sold almost 8 million copies worldwide, spawned 8 hit international singles, earned a ton of awards for her, and is recognizable by its cover alone, how isn’t it iconic? I could go on with that list – from reviews to awards, it IS an iconic record, whether or not you like it.
Also, refer to @Dion-ish’s list for some more info on how she is on her way to being iconic. She isn’t going to be forgotten, I assure you. Also, learn how to spell congratulate before you run your mouth about how something is or isn’t iconic and act as if you know everything.

Its a sad day when people dont know what an ICON is. Say what you want but Rihanna isnt one nor will she ever be if she keeps going at the rate she is. She can sell albums, good for her but that doesnt mean that her music is better than someone that doesnt sell more than her. Writing for an album is part of making one. I was reading these comments and im shocked….ok britney, madonna, janet may not be the best singers but guess what they know how to perform and entertain the crowd, janets new tour sold out in minutes in the us and it will probley do the same in the uk rihanna is not a performer and everybody knows that at least madonna and brit make up for there lack of singing skills when they perform, having number one records and selling albums and a pretty face it does not make you iconic…..madonna and brit sell records and have hit singles because they have a strong fanbase and they can perform they may lip sing well brit but they still give you 100 percent! Rihanna been in the game for six years and she has yet to show that she can put on a show and actually sound good…..but I am gonna say this she’s a pop singer you don’t have to be a the best singer to be a pop singer ex.britney, kesha, katy, jlo all these women may not have the best voices but they know how to put on a show that’s something rihanna lacks tremendously she’s never consistent with her performances…I like her I do but some of y’all are giving her way too much credit, she hasn’t really made her mark on the music industry like that to call her an icon you have to be more than a singles artist to get that kind of title; and rihanna has yet to do that she might one day but not today
