Keyshia Cole Performs ‘Take Me Away’ On Conan

Published: Thursday 20th Jan 2011 by Sam

R&B songstress Keyshia Cole continues to press on with the promotional efforts for her latest LP ‘Calling All Hearts’, tonight stopping by The Conan O’Brien Show to perform new single ‘Take Me Away’.

The song, the third to be lifted from the album, officially goes for adds at US radio on February 1st.

Check out the performance after the jump…

Though not an atrocity, the performance was more apt for a high school talent show than it was for live TV.  I mean, how embarrassing was it to watch Keyshia clearly counting the choreography steps; one after the other, after the other. On a more positive note, though, the vocals were an improvement on previous live showings. Yet, were still characterised by shakiness and heavy breathing.

I’ve said before and will continue to echo;  Keyshia is talented, no doubt about it. However, lifeless material and performances like this will only serve to her detriment. Her ‘rough and raw’ appeal may have been hot in 2005; yet it is exactly what is leaving her at the back of the pack some 6 years later. Time to step it up, Ms. Cole. Time to step it up.

I disagree w/ that only because her raw and rough around the edges is what bought her fans in the first place. ((WE ALL KNOW THAT SHE IS NOT MARY J)) bt Ms. Cole has the ability 2 tell a story and u feel every emotion and every feeling. KEYSHIA’S FIRST ALBUM WAS WONDERFUL….this album NOT SO MUCH! I realize she has attempted to grow and mature as an artist by going 2 a vocal coach and trying the aspect of dancing w/ her songs….BUT KEYSHIA DON’T LOOSE YOURSELF IN THIS NEW AND IMPROVED KEYSHIA. Next album give us more of the first album Keyshia and even a little of the second album Keyshia….I LUV YA GIRL! Your Fan

@ LAURYN, i completely agree with you.

Her outfit is cute, she’s a cutie. I don’t get the Mary J comparisons though.

why is her backing track so high and she does’t seem to have good breath control but she looked cute

  8. Dave January 20, 2011

SAM -you hate her cause she’s being real -there is no need for your opinion -just post the vid and shut your trap.

Keyshia did great-vocals were on point and dancing was a little shaky but she still kilt it -She had fun up there -what’s the problem

  9. Meka January 20, 2011

I thought she did great. She can’t really move in her heels like that but she doesn’t have to. Her outfit and that song says it all. Good job..

  10. WonderLand19 January 20, 2011

I liked that she tried something new with the dancing plus she seemed more relaxed.

Good job. i think she slowly stepping up her game. She doesn’t need to be beyonce or rihanna to sell her records. All she has to do is up her game, performance and song wise and continue having that hood swag.

I loved this performance a lot Mrs.Keyshia Cole and her voice sounded beautiful from beginning to end.. She looked BEAUTIFUL… I loved that she is learning to take her time singing and actually not sound off-key.. The dance moves fit her swag wasnt too much or too less. Overall Grade: A.. Go out and support Keyshia Cole New album “Calling All Hearts”… People need to stop judging her she growing we all get to that point in life.

  12. AREIS January 20, 2011

it was Okay, not a bad song but dont care for it as a single ” Calling all Hearts” is really boring album…. i see Keyshia is trying to dance

  13. Mely B January 20, 2011

^ Lauryn – agree with all of your comments. I’m a fan because Keyshia writes most of her songs and performs them with emotion. Last night’s performance was much better than I’ve seen from her recently – I’m not a fan of her incorporating dance in her performances because that is not her strongest asset. However the more comfortable she becomes with it the better her performances will be.

Also although not as good as her JUST LIKE YOU album, CALLING ALL HEARTS is a solid Keyshia Cole album – don’t let haters scare ya’ll away from quality r&b music 😉

Yeeesssss Keysh u caught my attention now! Take Me Away is such an Amazing song! This is the BEST song on the album. I love how she Kills this song live!! This performance was nice. After this single become a hit, u need 2 do another album ASAP!

  15. BENJAMIN January 20, 2011

She was a little dry in the 1st half, but pumped it up on the second. She just needs to match her voice with the track instead of singing in a different key. She is not a bad singer, just needs to work on stage presence more. I’ve been rocking with Keyshia since 05,’ and got every album. She ain’t never gonna be no Rihanna or Beyonce and she isn’t trying to be, so just get used to it.

  16. NICK January 20, 2011

I LOVED IT, she did really good, compared 2 the past showings….SHE CAN SING, that is a no brainer! her albums have always delivered & I like this 1, BUT y do people compare her 2 MARY? I dont c it, they r totally different, I liked this performance tho, it was different, saw her dance a little & having fun, THAT IS CUTE !!!! she sounded good, can work a little more on singing & dancing, BUT it was overall B+ for sure…….

  17. RosaRubbel January 20, 2011

The performance was actually pretty good and I’m not saying this because I’m a huge Keyshia fan. Yes, it’s obvious she was nervous, cause her vocals sounded a little bit shaky in the beginning, but after the first chorus she came into the song. Of course her choreography was not a ‘fluent process’, she’s a vocalist and not a performer. Keyshia has never done some types of dance routines in her live performances.

  19. TheMan4u January 20, 2011

i think she is feeling the pressure because this is her first cd to not do well, that can shake any artist, i mean Mariah carey had a mental breakdown after her first flop.

  20. Que January 20, 2011

Such a f****** hater! Always some negative to say! You have no life so you find it funny to hate on someone that has a better lifer and more money than you!

  21. joshj January 20, 2011

SHUT THE F*** UP HATERS…. WHAT U TALKING ABOUT??? I MEAN I’M NOT A KEYSHIA FAN AND I LOVED THIS EVERYTHING ABOUT IT!!! WHEN I TELL U THIS BLOG SAD EH SMFH…. IS IT IMPOSSIBLE FOR U TO COMPLIMENT OTHERS ARTISTES?? BESIDES CHRIS, CIARA KELLY AND MARIAH??

  22. ANTHONY January 20, 2011

@ugh…DO U SEE THE TAT ON HER RIGHT ARM MARY J BLIGE HAS A TAT ON HER LEFT ARMS FROM YEARS AGO…LET’S GO BCK TO NO MORE DRAMA STYLE THAT MARY J BLIGE HAD KIESHA COLE IS TAKING HER STYLE

  23. Malik January 21, 2011

haters fall back, keyshia did good 🙂

  24. Tee January 21, 2011

I don’t think this was a good pick for a single, doubt if it sells more for her. I do like her CD and think she should release one of the ballads like Impossible or Better Me. Her ballads usually do well and help her CD sells. She looked cute though

  25. kelzrowland January 21, 2011

I agree with Tee..Better me is the s***..I just think Keyshia has always mirrored Mary J to an extent..but a modern version…and now that Mary J isnt out Keyshia doesnt have a direction..there isnt enough gut wrenching soul in this album as a whole…But I still support!

  26. lola January 21, 2011

Keyshia is too cute and has really turned into a classy young woman! She ages beautifully because she still looks like she’s 25 and she’s damn near 30 (29). Sam, what is your problem? I know you have your own opinion but I don’t see what you’re talking about? That was a good performance. She has definitely grown vocally and has a lot more stage presence. It was obvious that she was nervous at first because her voice was shaky, but during the chorus and towards the end, she really showed off her pipes. Keyshia is one of the only real and true R&B singers we have left. At least she can sing unlike Rihanna, Katy Perry, Kesha, and Britney Spears.

BTW, The dancing was cute but a bit stiff.

  27. chi09 January 21, 2011

did anyone else notice the dancer that was lost through most of the song

  28. tjack January 21, 2011

I KNEW this was going to be the next single…. I just told my friend that 3 days ago

  29. Andrew January 22, 2011

I was impressed. For Keyshia that was a pretty good performance.
She needs to come harder with her next album though.
I LOVE this song, but she needs more radio friendly material.
